Hi Guy's.
Hi 2/4/
I think the bike must have been a "Jackson" Cub. If I remember this had a curved large section top and seat tube that carried the engine oil, much like the Faber Cub frame of today. These were a limited production bike I think about six or seven were made. Any more information on the bike? I would be intrested.
PS Happy New Year Guy's.
Regards Charlie.

Hi Guy's.
Hi Rob,
Yes it looks as if it could take charge and is the right colour,(RED Rag To A Bull).
You need to get on that "Bad Boy" and get out on some rocks and show it who is boss before the Scottish event.
Hope you have a good ride anyway. I will be watching!!
Regards Charlie.

Hi Guy's.
Hi 2/4.
Is this on the dvd "Six From the Scottish"? I only have a taped version and will need to reconect my VCR(remember them) to watch it.
Regards Charlie.
-
Hi Guy's.
Hi Dave thank's for that, looking foward to seeing your bike.
Have you measured a house brick then?? it is wide though.
If you have a problem to get an entry with the chopped frame, you can always borrow one of mine OK.
I am just glad that the "Otter" frame is now getting the publicity it deserves.
And don't forget that it was Colin Dommett, and the late Harry Foster that gave the frame the name "OTTER"? because the replica Scott Ellis frame, was built in Harry's workshop next to the river "Otter" .
:banana2: Thanks Guy's
Regards Charlie.

Hi Guy's.
Thought you may like to see my Scott Ellis Replica frame. This is it.
Woody, The frame that Scott used to win the Experts, was like my copy,Tiger Cub bolt on sub frame. The frame he used before that Was BSA and had the pinched in seat down tubes.
Edit To reply to Woody.
Regards Charlie.

Hi Guy's,
Hi Woody,
Thanks for doing that mate!!!
So we now have confirmation from Scotland, that the MK 3 Faber "Otter" frame is OK for the two day event. YES.
BUT This frame is not like the one used by Scott Ellis, to win the British Experts trial in 1965, is it ????????????????????????????? Take a look at my site www.bsaotter.com to get the low down.
Anyway a result? (Hope Howard is right about the CUB Mk 3 frame too.)
Regards Charlie.

Hi Guy's.
Hi Woody,
As you know, I am Mr "Otter".
And you probably know that I am in the throws of building a Faber Mk 3 Triumph Cub engined bike for my nephew in the Isle of Man, to ride. Well this bike is being built with two things in mind one to get, and keep the young man interested in the Classic trials bike scene. And two, to enable him with experiance to ride in there own two day Classic trial in September.
And to gain an entry into the Scottish trial, maybe as early as the year after next.
Well when I bought the frame from Howard, at Faber, he "asured me" that this frame would be OK for the Scottish trial!!
So do you now think that Howard has fallen out with a commitee member, and so they have moved the goal posts????
We will see,
I am still sure the a Spanish rider uses a Faber "Otter" based frame. and gets a ride.
PS. Could always stick on some dummy bolt fixings anyway. :banana2:
Regards Charlie. :madnoel:

Hi Guy's
This seems to have more truth as the years go bye.
Or is it only History repeating itself.(trials that is). ????
Regards Charlie.
Happy Christmas Guy's.
Edit, to spell my name correctly? Well it is Christmas.

Hi Guy's.
For you guy's with bikes you think are "Goldfingers" on the twinshock forum. You should find what you are looking for on this thread,
OK

Hi Guys,
I had a long conversation with the Hipkin's about the Sprite mark, on here. at the start of the year . and I must say Frank and his son were most helpfull. I have there e-mail address somewhere if you need it. or search for Sprite on here.

Hi Guy's.
BRILLIANT<
We So So need more of these type of trials events.
And these just needed a bit more advertising (Perhaps on here) to make us aware of the event.
Then I bet the entry would have been twice the size it was, and with more spectators to get intrested in this side of the sport. Or am I only bashing my head again? :wall:

Hi Guy's
Hi Jon,
I took a close look at the photos of this engine the emailed to ask if it had PVL ignition fitted as there was a breather coming from the distributor hole.
I had no reply from the guy's, and then a couple of days later a add-on to the advert stated it had got PVL ignition fitted.
I was very intrested in the engine up until this point, then I realized that they did not realy know about the engine, if they did not know that PVL ignition was fitted to it before they placed the Item on e-Bay.
But more still they did not even e-mail me back with a reply.
I think that there is somthing not quite right?? Anyway I worked out at

Hi Guy's.
Hi OTF,
I will get up to one of your trials next year and bring a van full,(If my back is not like it is at the moment)
.
B40RT, I totaly agree with what you have said, but just check how many veiws the item has had "38" at this time. This is the problem, how do you get people to know about your event??? and how many of the 38 will actualy think, yes I will load the bike and go up to this event???
Good luck any way OTF, And you guys who have just read this, go on make the effort you may enjoy the day out.
Regards Charlie.

Hi Guy's.
Hi Bo.
What forks ? Bultaco perhaps?
Regards Charlie.

Hi Guy's.
Hi Ben. Why alter it???
You are not going to win on it??? or do you want too???
Just get out and "Enjoy" riding it.
Regards Charlie.
-
Hi Guy's.
Hi Andy,
Yes, you just get out and "Enjoy" riding the little bike, From what you say you are a wise to the situation! Good luck with the little bike.
Regards Charlie.
-
Hi Guy's.
Nice little bike, But can it be classed has "PRE 65"????
Surely the engine is later and has four gears??? And the trick ones are much worse!!
This "PRE65" tag on bikes has got to be stopped. What is wrong with calling bikes of this class "BRITSHOCKS" anyway??
YOU KNOW IT MAKES SENCE???
Regards Charlie.

Hi Guy's
Hi Dave.
Picture has promised.
Regards Charlie.

Hi Guy's
Hi Dave.
Looks like you have a set of replacment crankcases then?
To narrow the frame you pull in the two seat down tubes to a narrower section at the top, you have to cut the tubes, take a small amount out, heat the tubes to pull them back in and then reweld. I will take a picture of one done today for you.
Timing side bush is OK as long as it is tight and in good condition, if not you will loose oil presure and this does not help the big end to survive long. A single is a bit more vunerable than a twin!! for some reason, smoothness perhaps???
Good luck anyway.
Regards Charlie.

Hi Guy's.
Hi Jon.
We could do a lot more on this site about the History of "Classic" trials bikes.
But for some reason, that I can-not understand? or the people using this site have gotten younger? and are not interested in bikes form the fifties to the seventies!!! But there now seems to be a lack of interest in the older Classic bikes, even compeared with a couple of years ago? Just take a look at the thread "GOV is Lost". and you will see what I mean. just look at the amount of veiwings that subject had. Now even though people (a few hundred) have reveiwed it no one seems interested in the subject anymore. The same with interest for the Classic Trials Show. The guy's who came to the event have mailed me to say that they are interested in me restaging this event> But the responce has been poor. Perhaps it is, has I have said, that the vast majority of Classic Trials Bike owners do not veiw this site or any other, related to Classic trials.
Do you think that is the case Andy? Should we have Bike History Forum on here???
Rant Over!! :icon_salut:
Regards Charlie.

Hi Guy's.
Hi Dave.
Engine number should be on the crankcases on the left hand side just underneath the bottom of the barrel.
Dizzy motor could realy do with the timingside mainbearing conversion, If you strip the motor. But mainly oil pump needs checking, along with rings, bushes, bearings etc.and check for stripped threads. A lot of people think this motor is a lot softer than the later ones. You could also try to find a wide ratio gearset, I think there are some new ones about but they are expensive. Good luck with the build. PS. have you narrowed the frame?
Regards Charlie.

Hi Guy's.
Hi Pat.
I seem to remember watching this clip on a tape , named "Six from the Scottish" by Duke Video, a film made by the original motorcylce film makers whos name slips me ? but you know who I mean. "Love watching it on a cold winters day by a roaring wood fire with one of my faverite cigars, and single malt in hand".(Last bit only a dream)????. Brilliant!!!
Regards Charlie.
Edit missed a letter.

Hi Guy's.
Hi Scott.
Yes you need your body flexable and limp, But this happens naturaly usally just from the fright.
Welsh Lanes?
Arrr I remember them well! when two top road racers playing at trials sidcars for fun, (Sorry Ron and Dan),
Decide to have a bit of road race practice along these lanes in between sections, all the side kick, (a Monkey would have jumped off) could do is join in or die, Fortunatly Doug and I did survive. But with some narrow scrapes. Oh such Joy.
Wish them days were back again. PS, the Kendalls should have taken up road racing for they were some times Quicker, but boy were words exchanged at the next group of sections.
Regards Charlie.
