I would run the 90 octane non ethanol in a heartbeat. European fuel (as stated in your manual) has different octane rating than American fuel. I believe 98 RON is close to 93 in the states. 90 non ethanol at 70 or 80:1 will be good. Maybe 70:1 better for trail riding.

Anyone that is good at tig welding should be able to easily tig the magnesium, will just have to find someone with some magnesium filler rod. Actually had a magnesium clutch cover welded yesterday, no big deal. Next time I'm tempted to try it myself, problem is that I'm very mediocre with the tig... and many other things...

I thought the same thing when I purchased my 2012 Gasser, my 02 Gasser did not need as much of a pull. I bought the fast tube, then noticed that it already had the fast (white) one! I got used to it, did not take long, although it feels much different than any of my other bikes.
As mentioned above a rev and dump or clutch slip can get you a lot of power really quickly.

My GasGas does not go far on fuel, far enough but I have to pack some for an extra reserve because the reserve does not go far either.
I see you mentioned some brands but have you looked at a TRS X Track? I bet that is the bike for you...
-
I've seen 2 strokes run under 100 compression. It was under debate how well. It was for sale and I didn't buy it.

Agree. What could a manual cost to print? Nothing like working on a bike with greasy hands trying to fumble through my phone because I don't have a computer in my bike shed... Screen timing out and shutting off... Need a paper manual. Also would be nice to have a manual that is only in my preferred language that only covers the exact model I am working on, but we probably don't have that technology to make that happen. Would cost even less to print.

Seems I could do that daily and still not remember!
If only all petcocks were the same, or even better all labeled!
-
I don't believe that a clutch should drag but I do believe that they are designed to be hard to accidentally find (false) neutral. My *trail* bike can find neutral a couple times a ride, nobody wants that in *trials*sections.
I don't understand why my foot can't find neutral on the *trials* bike most the time but by hand can?
-
Pretty sure he meant this^^^ but I am also confused. Did it return to high idle with the lanyard un-attached?
-
Few drops, totally normal for a Keihin carb.
-
Fair enough to be disappointed, but it seems like you're on your way to having it sorted, and getting a feeling for the bike along the way!
I like *most* wrenching way more than I like the inside of my house or my T.V.
-
Definitely excessive, I'd rather find it in the float bowl than many other places though!
-
Make sure you feel the kickstart is engaged before you kick. Then *sharp fast kick*
-
Engage the kick starter to prevent damage then *sharp-fast-kick* You may benefit with going a size larger on the pilot jet, I think I did. Starting it is zero concern once you figure out the fast kick.
-
I wish I could read the mfg date on that rear tire? Maybe you can by zooming in on the original pic, could be an original tire showing it's lack of use. Very similar price that I paid for a very similar bike. Everything I see looks original except maybe pegs and shifter, someone has cut down the levers as well. I don't even see boot wear on the frame stickers, much less visible wear than mine! I don't know that I have ever seen pillow top grips on a trials bike, look out of place.
-
Get the kick start to engage and give it a *sharp-fast-kick*
There is lots of talk out there of putting it in gear, rolling it backwards in 2nd gear then pulling clutch and kicking which also works.
For me it is just making sure the kick start is engaged to prevent damage to the "Bart Simpson" gear and giving a *sharp-fast-kick*
I richened the pilot circuit one jet size, not sure if that helped but my bike will start from cold in 3 kicks, warm 1 kick always. I just have to put the effort in, if I give it a half ass kick I get half ass results!
Some people do struggle with the Gasgas starting, there is likely 100 threads on here about it.

I really enjoy my 2012 GasGas 280 Raga, has been dependable and am still getting parts easily. I paid $4500 CAD 3 years ago. Once you figure out how to start it you will enjoy it.
-
I did this with our snow plow ATV, cheap charger off Amazon (like 30$ Canadian), it came with wires and a connection that was easy to leave a pig tail for charging. I leave it charging when not in use. What type of battery does the TRS have? Some batteries like LIPO don't like to be left on charge.

If your wife has never rode a dirt bike I would suggest you get her on something with a seat if even for an hour or two before forcing her to stand. Apparently it is really hard to learn clutch and balance at the same time. I'd buy, beg, borrrow or rent a 125 4 stroke TRAIL bike for a day first, practice clutch and standing. I have seen people that can operate a motorcycle sitting down try a trials bike and fail more than miserably more than once. Once it was an expensive fail as well.
-
Depends on the riding you are doing. if its slow trials stuff it's 80ish to 1, If your blasting trails more id go closer to 60 or 50 to 1 depending on what you're up to.

Mine in my Gasser is 11 years old, my bikes live in rarely heated sheds and I do ride in the rain and snow. I have never had a CDI problem on any of my bikes in the last 30 years. I suspect something is cooking the cdi, not just moisture.
-
I really like my 280 and would prefer to go for another 280 if I were to upgrade. It took a couple hours to get used to and I might still be better on my old 250. I find the 280 to be more fun! and I am by far no expert. I also weigh 225 pounds (16ish stone)
-
I got our youngest on a Beta Evo 80 Jr when he was 7, he also came off an Oset and many other auto kids petrol bikes. He learned the clutch almost instantly, first gear is super low and easy to learn. We have had zero problems with the 80 and I expect it to fit him until he is 12 at least. And yes, get bikes, the sooner the better!
-
150lbs is standard for most bikes certainly for my Gasser but gauges vary. If you have less than 150 you may be looking at at least rings.
