the actuator on the outside of the master cyclinder moves about a third of its travel before the clutch is "activated". this is why the adjustment screw is all the way in, so to take up this travel. i will take a look at the bleed port on the master cyclinder tho... thanks for that, I didnt know about it.
The reason I ask about the clutch plates is that when Iv been riding I haven't had any trouble with the clutch, but when stationary I noticed that it changed gear alot easier when the lever was pulled all the way into the handle bar. I'd have thought it should be like that when, using 1 finger, pulling the lever to your knuckles. I guess this may have something to do with the above problem???
-
how far should the plates actually move? My adjustment screw on the clutch lever is all the way in. does this mean I need to bleed the system also?
-
just had a problem with my rear brake. Took the swingarm off and back on again. Then come sat night before a trail found there was no back brake. Tried bleeding it for a while and only got some of it back, but only just. At this point I locked the bleed screw off then sheared the screw in the caliper!!!!!! Fortunately it had sealed just sealed in the caliper for me to ride sun.
I did notice that when I assembled the swingarm and master cylinder back to the bike, the master cylinder connection that hold the pipe to the reservior rotated quite freely. I wasnt sure if this was like this in the first place?! I also noticed that when I had "finished" breaking my bike, that air bubbles came up into the reservior as I pumped the pedal. The cap was still off the res at this time.
To finish off my weekednd of destruction I snapped my gear lever on sun, at the very same rock i snapped my brake pedal last weekend!!!!!
Any advice on the brake would be helpful for me and hopefuly might help andy too.

I couldn't decide on a 2.5 or 2.9, but in the end on the back of recommenndations of other riders (TC included), I got a 2.9. Together with a slow action throttle to mellow it out abit. I loved the bike. A few months later I put the fast action throttlle back on....... Now its even better!!!
I recently had a go on a mates rev 250, and it felt lacking compared to the 2.9. I liked it but it didnt have the edge.
Im sure Caby could ride the 2.5 well but I bet he'd choose the 2.9.

This has been a right pandora's box andy!

I've fitted the Olle 07 shock to my 04 but with a different rear spring as the 07 spring is too long. It's made a big difference to the feel of the bike and I'm very pleased with the improvement to the bike especially on rocks and steps. I've seen Ohlins advertised and also there is a TRP shock available as well so there is scope for improvement on the rear suspension, which was always the weakest point on a Sherco.
I asked MRS about this the other day john, and they said they werent sure you could replace 04 bike shock with a new 07. Glad to hear it worked out. Did you use your 04 spring on the new shock? And also what was the price of the Olle shock compared to the TRP?
-
think im with copey on this, I wound my 04's stock shock up quite abit. probably two thirds of the shock & i way 75ish kg. I thought the bike was loads better. especially tryin to hop about, as your effort doesnt get absorbed by all the travel. but it wasnt too much that bumpy climbs were a problem.
Glad you mentioned that cope, cos i thought it was odd that i needed to wind it up so much...... told you, you were a sherco guru!

I observed at the earl shilton trial sunday, and it seemed everyone is goin 4-stroke mad. had a go on a new 4rt, I quite liked it.... not sure if id switch yet tho.

I think the dog bone grease challenge is on...... will let you my time next time.
Im pretty sure the old tyz linkage had grease nipples tho. unless i dreamt it!
-
Does anyone know the postcode for Bracken Rocks, derbyshire? So I can find a route to get there from leicestershire.
cheers

Alright gasser,
I tend to clean "n" grease mine every month on my 290. Funny thing is I was just thinkin this week, why didint sherco put some kind of better weather protection on them????
essex riders plastic washer idea sounds good, might try that out. Another idea is a neoprene sock, like the type you would use on a mountain bike fork leg.
until a good solution comes along, I guess regular greasin' is the way forward....
-
Andy,
Is there any reason that you or admin would shorten/change my username? should I be worried?
-
alright mate,
I use extra light, 5 HVI (PJ1) in my 290 and my weights about 12 stone-ish.
hope that helps.
-
its probaby down to what ever you can get the bike to do..... thats what trials is all about.
I was the same coming back to trials (funnily enough I went off to race downhill mtb, not to the heights of sponsorship tho), I was unsure about what I could do. Practise is the only way of finding out.
Theres a really good venue not too far from you in earl shilton, just off the M69. Its got good variety of terrain that the local trials club use for all levels. the club own the land and you have to be a member to have access, but

I tried subscribing yesterday and got as far as my username. To subscribe it says your username has to be a min of 4 characters, mine is only 3. tried going into "my controls" to change my username, but I didn't see an option to do so. Im sure my original username was longer than 4 characters but I received an email from TC saying it was changed to my current 1, I kind of assumed they did just to trim my username to my first name........ should I be worried?!?
How do I subscribe?????????????

cheers for the help guys. I did give it the guy at work. he took it away for an hour or two and it came back all sorted. Dont know what he did, but the result is great.
bike is now back together!
-
smooth and with minimal pitting, andy. any scoring could mean some bigger problems.
out of interest did you get your bearings from a sherco dealer or a bearing supplier? what was the prices like? I just recently changed mine and a dealer quoted
-
tried using an easy out today..... I must get in touch with trading standards as there was nothing easy about it! & it didnt come out.
wish I'd have thought of heating it up first.
gonna take the yolk into work, see what the guys there can do with it...........
-
why dont we get 3 girls each in uk trial clubs?????...........Mmmmmmmmmm!
-
i've just changed the dog bone bearings on mine & found exactly the same! there is just lil bit of play between the bush and bolt. I did find tho, that when i bolted all the linkage up there was no problem and the bearings seated fine.
-
I was playing about with my bikes' set up & to cut a long story short, i sheared one of the allen cap head screws in bottom fork yolk. does anyone know how i can get the rest of the screw out? i dont think theres much left in the thread but not enough to get the pliers on it.
funny thing is i didnt need to take it out!!! it came loose enough for the fork leg to move freely. I just thought it was abit tight, so thought it best to take it out and grease it!!!!!!!!!
gonna go sulk now.........
-
andy;
i did the whole lot. but sayin that i didn't strip the brakes. I just wanted to be satisfied that i knew the condition of the whole bike. I suppose despite how thorough someone (especially a seller) says they are, they just might not be as thorough as you.
