  1. Hi all , got myself a little 245 to restore , as the previous owner has done little maintenance over the years and need a few parts to help along the process . The engine runs but the clutch basket has had it , i would consider a damaged one if anyone has something lying around , and the top yolk has a nice crack where the bolt runs through it .The exhaust silencer is in a real mess and should really be replaced. This is my first trials bike that i'm having a go at after building several other bikes , and i'm wondering if i've bitten more of than I can chew . I have spoken to Bill at frankfields (extremely helpful and knowledgeable ) and he said try on here . Thanks in advance for any help you can give me with sourcing any of the parts I need , and if you have any other 245 parts you think I might be interested in please call me Pete 07816906181

You could try Blacks up your way, im sure they were breaking one a while ago.

Top yoke will be difficult to find as the twinshock and pre 65 guys will have these. It would be an option to repair if you know a good ally welder or probably the cheapest option to look for a later upside down fork front end as no much use to most people. Plenty of other bikes used the same yokes as the 245,

  2. Hi

Can anybody tell me whether the head off any other Fantic is the same as the 240, as mine has a few fins missing

    Thanks

I have a 240 head if your after one still, will dig it out tomorrow and check fins etc

  3. if you can bung both ends of the exhaust, with a valve in one end. Fill the exhaust with compressed air approx 20-30 psi. Then blow tourch a circular area around the dent so its near red hot and the compressed air will blow the dent out.

Be careful, make sure the bungs are really secure, if they arent they will blow like a shot gun across the garage.

  4. So there is a used 2005 4RT for sale - looks in pretty decent shape - not sure of the hours though. I have a GG 2000 TXT280 and like it a lot, but its really worn out. I am new to trials bike (been riding enduro) but absolutely love it for the highly technical trails we have out here. For a newbie I understand that a remapping would be in order. And perhaps the clutch might need to be changed out.

But were the 2005s and OK year for the 4RT? Anything I should watch for?

And to make matters worse - there is a 2008 Beta Rev 4T for about the same price. *sigh*

    thanks

    Don

I Had a new 2005 4RT when they came out, changed gearing on the back sprocket and thats it dont mess about with anything else, just ride and enjoy.

  5. I've given up on it now :-( It's going in a corner, may sell it in bits one day. I'm going to buy a TLR.

    NO dont give up!

The gearbox is pretty simple as long as all the shims, springs and ball bearings are in place. Its a long shot but sounds like the ball bearing may have come out under the selector drum, or its spring has broke, fix it and your be glad you didnt buy a TLR

  6. Hi all, I've recently bought a fantic 303, after having a gas gas for four years, I'm really enjoying the bike but finding the low bars very akward and sore on my upper back , would like to hear if anyone else has experienced this and the best way to sort it, cheers john

Coxy pit bikes sell a bar riser that will fit or if your top yoke is moulded you may need to look at Apico fat bar conversion clamps.

I have no connection to these companies but very satisfied when I used Coxy's

  7. After much frustration the 240 I recently bought (which had been stood up for at least 5 years)is now running sweet! After isolating the poor running to a loose kill switch wire (phew, was ready to replace the electrics / crank seals)the bike had a full practice ride yesterday and runs sweet.

I now need to allocate the budget to a number of immediate replacement items to get it ready for its first comp, then I can prioritise time/money of a gradual rebuild / restore.

A couple of quick questions in order to address two items without any spend:

    1) Are the standard shocks (Marzocchi) rebuildable. At present they have no dampening but there does appear to be a large nut by the damper rod that suggests they can be rebuilt

    2) The petrol cap has sheered just inside the cap cavity where the breather pipe attaches. This is resulting in fuel spilling. As a cap is

  8. Take the piston off of the rod, rather than the alloy mount, make sure and keep the shims in proper order.

My shocks don't leak at the shaft seals, but at the square section o-rings that seal the sealhead, make sure you source those too.(haven't tried to find them for myself yet, mine just barely leak)

Yes done that but rods need rechroming or replacing.

  9. I've stripped down my original marazochi shocks as they are leaking, I can get hold of seals and some spherical bearing for the mounts, but cant seem to get the rod off the top alloy mount, is the alloy cast around the chrome rod?

  10. Hi Furse, my 240 just started the same symptoms. Not bad but just started to notice. I have been running merc/dex ATF ( I may try "Type F" ). I bought a complete clutch kit and did the "Beta" Clutch Mod". I'll report when I put it in. I've been told this is common though ??? Let me know how you make out ? The Minerelli clutch is perfect so far.

What is the Beta clutch mod?

    Yes Minerelli clutch was fine.

  11. I need to pick your brain's, im pretty close to getting my 240 in a rideable state but need a little random info.

The flywheel breather, do i need some clear pipe with 10mm id, how much do i need a where dose it got to?

Do i need 6mm fuel pipe or larger?

Can anyone tell me the thread length of the bolts that hold the chain guard on?

Can anyone give me any info on gearing 11-?

    Cheers.

breather pipe goes up frame to basicaly same place as airbox breather pipes,

6mm fuel pipe will be fine

push a thin nail into threads to measure how long bolts needs to be less approx 5mm, but they only need to go in 15mm or so.

  12. Great idea Furse ! Wish I knew that trick before the restore ! On the next one.....:) How is your pro coming and how do they compare ?

Took it out today for its first trial, its not looking pretty but very happy with it, Once all the little bits are sorted out I think it will be better than my old 200. Its still very similar to the minarelli, gear box is better and all the fun of a minarelli 200 but a bit more fun.

One main issue I found today was clutch slip when going across the field from section to section, but in the sections it was fine, even on the hills, so a bit lost on this, running ATF oil ?

  13. Another bracket welded on swing arm so tensioner bolt goes through original braket throught tensioner and then supported by new bracket makes it all a better design, similar to 240.
