    My Apologies

Imagine that, a full moon - in broad daylight!

    Enduro X 2008

You're right about them going to see the big names, maybe this is way to keep both groups showing up to ride and also showing the public more about trials??? Let's here it for low impact riding....another great reason for the masses to notice the trials community. Dirt rider magazine had a great article in a recent issue about how good trials tires are in an off road environment (on off road bikes) It will take time but we are making progress!

    Enduro X 2008

It only puts a small dent in it... Gives us all a chance to show the "go fasters" how much the trials guys (and bikes) can really do. Kinda cool to think that what was thought of as a disadvantage is now an advantage. Then when we put trials guys on off road bikes and beat em, they will all take notice. (ie: taddy) Let's keep mixing it up and show em how it's done! For whatever it's worth, our local series is still a "run what ya brung" format. I attached a couple of new pics from the 2007 event.
  4. Thanks, Alan, I had not seen that group. Thanks for the pic, good one of me (my feet were up!) I attached a link to a couple of videos on youtube as well. Ed Logan is the guy on the triumph cub . He loaned me his BSA for the day when my Cota went awol!. First time in AHRMA and first time on a bike like that BSA..too much fun!

    Cota 172

I picked up a nice clean Montesa Cota 172 this past summer. Spent a little time on the bike, but had problems with kick start.(I understand this is common problem) I was given one of the old kick start shafts along with the bike as an example of what happens as the shaft twists. Is there an after market shaft out there made of a better grade of steel? I have one shaft (unbroken but twisted) and another that is twisted off. Also looking for ideas on bike set up and mods to make a good rider for AHRMA. Keith
  6. The AMA is here to stay- love it or hate it. I have been invloved in trials, enduro, HS and now E-Cross races for 30 yrs in MI. I always thought of it as only a necessary evil, at least until the last 10 yrs or so. The AMA organization really seems to lobby for us as a special interest group in a world that would love to see us go away (ie: the non-motorized population) They do a lot in conjunction with others, the Blue Ribbon Coalition is one that comes to mind, but there are certainly more. WE have a strong future if we keep making ourselves heard and don't become too complacent. Our club has some members and friends in the AMA management structure so perhaps I hear more than some about what goes on inside. Kinda interesting to hear each different rider group comment at the annual meeting. Motocross complains about the road guys and the hillclimb guys have something to say about Hare Scrambles, and on and on.... All I can say is suppport those who are speaking on our behalf about the very issues that would shut us down by the "greens". Keith
  7. Hey Biff, Have you found any other pics or videos on Mid Ohio in 2007? I found a couple on Utube, one is a good video of Ed Logan, but not much else showing decent trials action. I saw none of you or me, just a few others. Anyone else have any mod ohio 2007 pics or videos? Keith
  8. I agree with Zippy about TIGHT on the rim lock itself. Just a thought... are you using a jam nut on the valve stem itself? If so, leave this off as it will allow for some movement without tearing it from the tube. I have always run tube type tires this way on off road bikes as well as trials (tube type wheels). If the tire does spin (even just a bit) It will simply pull the valve stem without tearing (at least at first) Keith But as I think back, I have always been accused of having loose nuts anyway.....
  9. I also have an 04' 290 that had spark problems. The spark issues seemed to have come from poor grounding in some or all of the electrical components under the tank. I had no compression issues, and the bike did exactly what yours did. Ran fine one minute and not another. Upon close inspection, I would not always loose the entire spark, it would be diminshed one time, fine the next, and entirely gone the next time. I determned it was not the coil and had no way to check the stator, so I disassembled everything in the entire electrical system. It ran fine when I put it together. The problem started again a week or so later. This time, I just pulled the electrics under tank off, and after cleaning and brightening all contacts reassembled with dielectric lube. Problem solved- still fine over a year later. Keith
  10. Thanks Craig, We'll keep in touch as our dates roll out and work on this thing together.... Keith
  11. SOME PICS FROM LAST ENDUROCROSS IN ROSE CITY MI (JULY 2007)
  12. WOOHOO! My very own class that means I go home with 1st place. OK I know it's not true probably would get 3rd out of 1 rider anyways. so basically the classes are like this: A---really fast, excellent riders B---Not as fast, good riders C---Slower, good enough riders Z---Wimpy scaredy cat rider Scott rode B class and would have won cuz he is good. So by that theory I think C would be a good place to start. Unless there is a JR class and I could get my butt wooped by some 11 yr olds. Is it like Trials where you can walk the course but not ride it, or is there a practice session prior to the races? I am not sure about the banquet yet. WE have open practice or separate sessions for each class before the race begins. (depending on the number of riders) Don't worry we won't whup ya like they do in Vegas...it's a little bit easier. (just a little) The track is longer for sure with more natural terrain (off cambers and such)
  13. We have a class JUST for you Zippy! Remember almost everyone is new to Endurocross, so you are far from alone. We just have A, B, and C classes plus a new "just added - class Z" Seroiusly, you could ride B or C. Scott rode B and would have won if not for the flat. C was much slower (only two guys last year) We'll most likely add some mud or water this year. I'll keep ya posted, are you going to the banquet in Jan?
  14. Wow, An amazing amount of time and thought is going into Knight's behavior. Although his behavior was clearly inappropriate, it made NEWS. We're all talking and I assume many others are as well. Actually it's all very very good for the sport. I'll bet KTM slapped his wrist and said not to do that again. Just the fact that the promoters are in a place that we can actually have two separate classes being considered- how cool is that? Personally I hope they have a championship class that combines all bikes, with separate classes for those who choose to ride that way. As the sport grows, new options will open up. We are trying to do a local enduro-x series in MI, and we are simply begging for bikes and riders....time will tell!
  15. Hey Biff, I think you might enjoy our BWCC Endurocross. We used a piece of the enduro x course for the October trials, but will modify it for the series. Scott DeBolt rode one moto on his trials bike and flew! He blew his rear tire and did the second moto on his KTM. I rode my Sherco in both while Zalac rode one moto on each bike as well. I pulled off second (out of 4) but only due to scott getting a flat- otherwise he would have hammered me. You should plan on mixing it up with the trials dates this year. Our (East Side ) trials on that property will be a two day event. Dates are coming. The good thing is that the endurocross events will be on Saturdays (most likely). I'll have more details over the next few weeks. WE would love to have any out of state guys, perhaps we can co-promote in each AMA district and club web page?? All you guys let me know how we can link up to your websites and such.
  16. Sounds great actually, where do you call home? We would love to have you guys. Are you also riding any trials? We have a two day trials planned for this summer as well. Shoot me your e-mail. Mine is kja5705@hotmail.com Check out our website Bent Wheels.com (off road) or motatrials.org for the trials stuff. No new schedules are posted yet, as they in being put together at this time. Our first EnduroX date may turn out to be in conjunction with our D-14 Hare Scarambles which will most likely be in mid to late June. The EnduroX will be on Sat and the HS on Sunday. That will help with attendance for both events. The second will be in conjunction with Ogemaw Bike Week which is a week long road bike/HOG type event in mid Michigan. For one entire week a series of off road style events are put on by the organizers of Bike Week and local clubs. We did our EnduroX on a wed, the other days had a Hillclimb, Supermoto, Dirt track and MotoX. Not sure where we will fit on this one. The final event will most likely be on sat in Aug. with another clubs HS on the corrosponding sunday (nearby) We should have things finalized by Jan 08. Our D-14 sanction meeting is 12/1, we'll know more then. Maybe we can get a few of our Mi guys to try the Columbus event????
  17. Our club is considering a three race Endurocross series in 2008. (Michigan) We did one exhibtion last year and had very low turn out. Only 9 riders (3 on trials bikes) but some very good feedback and a couple of very good riders in the A class. It was on an outdoor track that combined natural terrain and nice sections of rocks, poles and long stretch we named "Goodyear Highway" with 4 rows of large implement tires. We are going to seek AMA- District 14 sanctioning approval for the series. The AMA is really encouriging us actually. But it's tough to loose big $ for the club. We lost almost $3,000 doing last years race. I am wide open for thoughts and ideas! Keith
