  1. I must admit the new one did look a little cheap when I first saw it. I still have my original 06 mudguard with metal bracket and that looks quite big and sturdy...and shiny!
  2. Had some electrical gremlins with my old Beta, I hope the new one doesn't have them.
  3. That's interesting, how many hours riding has it done?
  4. I know I am biased but I think the new EVO looks so modern that some people are just going to take a little longer to get used to it. But then I have to say that I loved the look of my old Beta as well. Maybe it's just a Beta thing......
  5. Can anybody help me? I want to add photographs to a post. Is the only way to use a link to an external site? Can I just upload photos direct? Thanks,
  6. Only done about 3 hours on mine, seems OK. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder
  7. Just for your information, I had a 2006 270 and had the engine rebuilt at BVM in June last year due to the main bearings becoming noisey. It was actually taken in because of the usual stator and CDI failure. Anyway BVM did a smashing job on the rebuild and the engine ran fine until the day after boxing day during a trial, where the main bearings suddenly became noisey again. I decided to change my bike at this point, because it was third hand when I bought it and there where tell tale signs of it having a pretty hard beginning to life. If it was me I would walk away, but that's me, once bitten twice shy. However I would like to add that BVM are pretty good and will try and sort any problems out that you may have. If you do go for it, just try and get a gentlemen's agreement that they will consider any main bearing problems for the next six months.
  8. I use a Dave Cooper rack on the back of the wife's Renault Megan and it works very well. The only criticism is once the bike is on you do not have access to the boot. So I usually get changed then lift a muddy bike up on the rack with clean clothes....my wife loves it
  9. I have to agree, it does seem to be a bit plasticy, but then again it may be a cheap and easy replacement as a complete unit. We will have to see.
  10. Comparing mine mechanically to my old Rev 3 270 the Evo is far superior and seems to have been well thought out. Only done 3 hours on mine so far (too Bl**dy cold to go out) but I love it!!
  11. For what it's worth........I have only done about 3 hours on mine but you can really feel the difference from the existing Beta's. The engine is very smooth even when it is this new! From a mechanical view point this bike is far superior and more thought out than my old '06 model and I think with correct maintenance and mechanical sympathy, there should be no reason why this bike should fail.
  12. Good question. I belive my bike has had the carb mods. Steve Saunders said that no change is required.
  13. Calling all EVO owners, and those in the know. Can anybody shed any light on the ignition mapping selection switch and exactly what it is for/supposed to do? I can't tell any difference between the two settings and I have heard that it is difficult for the top boys to do so as well so can anybody offer any more information on this? Currently I practice at two different sites so the mapping selection is used for that!!...ha,ha
  14. I think I will stay with TTS, still thanks for your replies it was interesting to get some other opinions.
  15. I have just treated myself to a new bike and want to try a different 2 stroke oil. Any recommendations? I have always been a Castrol user and have not had any problems just fancy a change.
  16. If it is any use, my wife bought me the Canon 1000d for Christmas with the kit lens 18-55mm and an additional Tamron 70-300mm telephoto. I have to say that so far, so good! The camera is excellent quality easy to use and the menu system is very intuative. Even the software bundle that comes with the camera is pretty good allowing you to handle RAW files. I knew absolutely nothing about photography (and still don't) but this camera has taught me quite a lot already. I would recommend it anyway?
  17. Heath, What sort of pressure range do you usually ride?
  18. Thanks for your replies chaps. I have decided to go with IRC on the rear Michelin on the front. Can anybody recommend pressures? I currently run about 2.5 psi Rear and 4-5 psi front any suggestions?
  19. Thanks for your replies. To add another factor then, what would suit the above conditions and also be the best wearing?
  20. I am about to purchase a set of new tyres for my 270. My question is which ones? I ride mainly in muddy (in woods) type conditions and clay (Cotswold finest) along with a little rocky obstacle to boot! I was recommended to go for a Michelin for the front and Dunlop for the rear, as Dunlop is a good all round tyre. Is this a good recommendation and if so, what would be the recommended tyre pressures for a 13stone bloke? Thanks in advance.
