  1. I broke the cast aluminum brake pedal on my 2000 Sherco 2.9. Found a new one through Ryan Young http://www.rypusa.com/ but I think you are "across the pond" so shipping may be high. It was not listed on the website so I had to call and speak with them directly. Also took my old one to a really good welder and had it repaired for a spare.

  2. And I had the best section of the day.

I even had somebody tell me that. HAHAHAHAHA

I am so bad at names and faces but there was this young gentleman (about 10 yrs old I think) in Novice class that tried and tried at my section and never gave up. Even got tangled with a tree but would not get off the bike. Unfortunately he fived my section the first 3 laps but on the last lap he gave it his all. He flew over the wheel base double log, made the turns on the hill and CLEANED the section.

My hats off to the young man for never giving up and nailing it on the last lap.

  3. I had the same problem recently with my 2000 Sherco.

Brakes would work to slow me down but would never lock up.

    I rebuilt master cylinder.

    bled brakes multiple times.

    new brake line

    new pads

discovered a small leak where the bleeder threads into the banjo bolt. used a screw with correct threads with teflon tape on threads.

Now works great. not sure which fixed it but would look for a small leak somewhere first.

Don't tell her your going...Just come up missing for 4 days....We will smack you around a little and do our part to make it look

like you were held against your will.. Well it never worked for me but it may for you anyway???

Maybe we should get Sam a parrot to keep him company? Just think of the words that parrot will know when he gets to Colorado?

Sam, at least if the van breaks down you could pull the van and trailer with one of the Beta's.. :barf:

    Scott,

My wifey would probably pay ya to take me out for a few days and smack me around.

    Hey Sam,

Ya know Scott is right about those Beta's..........they are just a glorified tractor.

Various topics merged and moved to the correct forum.

    You da man Andy,

Watching the world round and covering it. Sampling some of the local Beverages?

And still find time to clean up all our scattered posts.

Actually I am just a bit depressed that I am not there to enjoy it too. :banana2:

Just one thing though. What are the most common things that you find once the engine is stripped are there generally other things that need replacing or is it usually okay???

Not sure what is common but since it is apart and probably preferable not to do it again anytime soon.

    Things to check

Connecting rod bearings (big end and small)

    Piston pin

    Rings

Crank Bearings (I think that is what you are already changing)

    Crank Seals (Ditto)

    Tolerance / wear on Piston/Cylinder

Clean carbon, oil, and gunk off Piston and Head

    Reed Valves

Condition of Clutch Plates (generally if working good, then gonna be fine MHO)

Water pump seal (if leaking change, other wise leave it be, MHO)

Look over Transmission if anything looks broke or really wore or metal shavings investigate further

Feel free to add if I left something out.

    Jon,

Forget all that glue stuff, Zipper simply stated that HE was tight, no reference to his grips!

Well, I gotta have something to hold myself to the bike so I don't fall off. PUCKER POWER!!!! :banana2:

    Zippy,

I think you mean what is also called "Mechanic's Tape", which is the black cloth (not plastic), double-sided (sticky on both sides) tape which we used to use for tape-type repairs before plastic electrical tape (sticky on one side) was common?

Nope, I meant electrical tape----sticky one side, black kinda shiny other side, nice and stretchy.

    I are redneck :banana2:

  9. Yep had similiar "tennis elbow" thingy.

Took long time to heal cuz I am too stubborn to stop doing the things I enjoy.

Tried the arm band thingy that goes just under elbow. Seemed to help some.

And one day I realized "hey, my elbows don't hurt anymore"

    Has not been back since.

I like the bar ends. I use yamabond on the grips w/ safety wire .

An old Indian trick...Drop a nickel in the clutch side and a dime on the throttle . 15 cent bar plugs .

And I thought I was cheap!!

Grips installed----- wrap a layer of electrical tape on bar and throttle tube. Slosh small amount of gas inside grip.

Grip slide on easy and never move again. And no pesky wire to worry about poking my sensitive hands.

    Grip removal:

Option A: use knife, grip come off quick----umm hard to reuse though.

Option B: Use compressed air--------I have had good success with this and easy to reuse. (back to me being cheap)

    QUOTE (ZIPPY @ Apr 16 2008, 03:34 PM)

no plugs = holes in end of grip

Plugs = hole in end of grip is well plugged.

I use bar ends. Just personal choice to avoid changing grips whenever the end wears through (oh and they came with the bike)

You see! Saves money on grips, Zipper probably has his from when he bought the bike!

Well, over the winter I bought a new throttle assembly and got new grips. I removed the old grips with an air gun and saved them as spares. The old ones were 2 yrs old. Yep I are a cheap *******.

First event I crashum big. Bike did perfect 3 point landing upside down, Bent my new bars  and ripped my left grip and I had to pick out stones from under the grip. Might need to put the "old" grips back on, a bit worn but at least no rips.

There is something about that bike that the creator surely couldn't have given much consideration to when he designed it! Now just imagine sitting astride the seat. What do you think the side view would look like by an onlooker !

    Necrophelia?

What married physical relations is like?

  13. I replaced rings, small end bearing, crank bearings, crank seals, and wrist pin. Before doing this did not hear much noise. After I hear a some what "knocking" noise. Actually seems to go away with higher revs. Or bike too loud at that point to hear the knocking. Runs great, performs well. I just figure it is cuz I was too cheap to change the piston.

When I tore the engine down the rings were leaking by so badly there were scorch marks on the piston below the rings and on the cases under the crank bearings. How did that darn thing still run?

  14. Had a Blast!

Great turnout for the event. Biggest we've ever had I would say

Some may say Saturday was a bit tough on ADV and EXP (OK it was tough) BUT do remember that even I at the bottom of the ADV class tried every obstacle. And went away with a smile. :)

    HEY SAM,

Great Job for a first time hosting an event, and BEAUTIFUL property.
