  1. Last year in Rhode Island Dougie parked his pretty creation down in the crowd whilst Dibbs rode. After he got on his bike and looked up at LA rush hour of people. I saw his face and stood up to say "Make way!!! Royalty comming through!!!" seas parted and he gave me a thanks mate. First place favorite moment with him.

Second place was 2006 on his montesa in tenn. drops into a creek and the anouncer said "Awww he stalled!!!" the crowd gave an overall awwww in response. Dougie heard the whole thing and opened up that repsol in response. That crowd lit up and of course he cleaned that section.

Just top notch rider. I wish that the whole elite class would let him have his 100th... 99th is soooo damn close....

  2. Gordo, first let me apologize. I don't like to be a complainer. You as an organizer are the backbone of our sport. So thank you for your efforts. AHRMA organizers all over the country are doing what you do, including the post 79's. It's the right thing to do. we all know it.

My problem is with AHRMA. They take your money but refuse to give you points and Vintage recognition for your bikes. I have tried to get them to include post 79 Twin Shock bikes. I have spoken with the top people there. They refuse to budge and without good reason. They have hurt vintage trials in America. A recent AHRMA trials here had nine riders. There used to be 50+entries.

Again I apologize for being a whiner. I hope your event is a success. Biff is right. Just ride and have fun. If I were closer I would attend.

    TS

PS it still bugs me that a 36 year old bike is considered "Post Vintage" by AHRMA.

    Bugs me too.

  3. I would suggest posting in the Yamaha bike specific area. Be careful with those bark busters on there. On trials bikes its much easier and more common to go over the bars. Bark busters can get in the way of exiting gracefully and have been known to break wrists.

  4. Unadilla is an AHRMA event. AHRMA does not recognize post 79 bikes in their Trials program. The 1st year I set it up, I made the trophies for the Post Vintage class. Last year and this year Unadilla is supplying the trophies. We're doing this as a special addition to the Trials to help promote the Post 79 twin shock bikes.

"Why no points for post 79 twin shocks" There has never been points for Post 79 Twin Shocks with AHRMA. This is nothing new.

Getting treated like everyone else is the whole reason we're doing this for the Post 79 bikes. Re-read the original post.

"Sorry for the rant". I don't even know what your rant is. As far as I know Unadilla is the only event that does this. You travel to the event, you pay like everyone else, you get scored like everyone else and you might get a trophy like anyone else might.

In the past (and some current) people were upset with AHRMA and their post vintage strategy when it comes to trials. Looks like you guys have a pretty good alternative here. I will try and send my dad John out there again for some setup help. He enjoyed doing it last year.

At the end of the day its riding a trials bike and who ever allows me to do that regardless of the organization is alright by me. Thanks for your hard work.

  5. I recently got my first trials bike at 63. Only baby sections but really enjoying it.

I think we may need our own section on the forum, so we can discuss what pills we are all taking, which bones ache the most after a ride etc etc

Did a club trial today, sunshine, fresh air and exercise  Doesn`t get much better

Thats a really great idea. all humor aside many of us acknowledge those things which our parents told us a little late in life. it was only untill it happens to us where we usually say "huh they were right".

  6. I have used GM Autotrack, Dex/Merc3 and Type F ATF fluids in my gasgas. I change it every 3-4 rides and never had a problem. Once you go with a fluid stick with it. Don't try experimenting between one versus the other because you will take out the clutch.

My fiance had been using some ELF eye of newt 38 euro a bottle stuff and it was nothing but problems. Went to good ole ATF with a new clutch pack and its working fine.

  8. If any of your spokes are lose then they will cause any sealant or rim band to move and break seal. Tight spokes is a key to keeping air in these things as well. Go over them using the "tuning fork" method with a wrench.

  10.       Being a car guy I have had many trials haulers. Not being deterred by size or original intent I have been known to show up at an event with various rides. The soon to be Mrs. and I decided this past winter to head on down to trails training days on top of our east coast nationals. For the past couple of years we have been doing this out of my Passat station wagon which can haul the gear but it can get a bit old when talking about a long weekend or even a longer trip. We have been known to say "we give" and hit up the hotel in trade of a nice bed and shower.

So several years ago I was towing to events with an MX5 Mazda Miata. Eventually that car met its demise and I quickly replaced it with a rusted out E150 Econoline. The Econoline was originally just a joke because it was cheap and i wanted to give the thing a try. I quickly found that i really really loved that van. It had a ton of problems but i worked them out and it was a decent trials rig. I would leave my gear locked up inside and when i got the bug to ride just grab the keys and wallet and go. Now its not dating material so eventually i got a "real" car again but it was a great trials rig. Now we have these trips coming up and I thought i would try and one up that experience.

May i present to you all "Vantastic two point oooOOoohh" (Fyi these things are a dime a dozen here in the states)

Little bit of Downton Abby action going on here.

    IMG_2136_zpsxbwimhvm.jpg

Yes that's a fire place on the back wall.

    IMG_2181_zpsqpfurdmi.jpg

    Noteables:

    1. I can put one bike inside with the queen size bed folded out in the back and no coffee table

    2. I can put two bikes in with bed up and no coffee table.

    3. I can put a bike on my hitch rack.

    4. It smells of rich mahogany on good days (better than the last van)

    5. We have streaming video and wifi

    6. It was in an attempt to surprise the Mrs when she showed up last weekend.

    7. She was not surprised.

    8. It failed a German inspection based on handling alone with three analogies she made accompanying the review:

          A. "Handles like a cathedral"

          B. "Its a great van.... when parked."

          C. "It amazing how the steering wheel and driving wheels don't seem to know each other."

So with all of this i am happy and have some work to get the handling back to a reasonable level but whats another project right?

I'm off to go install a drag link now. Have a good one and see you all out there!

  11. I found the leak. See the blue spot on the plastic like? There is a pinhole there.

Shot through the clear water later that evening.

I just got to break a bit more concrete!

So you're the reason why Texas is flooded!!! I too miss the days where I have better things to do rather than plumbing.
