  1. I have painstakenly created a vehicle of terror and placed all of my worldly posessions in the middle. unfortunately more times than not one of my vehicles or its enabling devices end up in a womans restroom or hanging from a tree so it realy never pans out for me.

PS. Keep your ride away from the pranksters.

  2. Speaking of GasGas water pumps, I just picked up a used 2014 GasGas TXT PRO 250. I've heard the water pumps are considered wear items. I suspect the one in my bike is original. Should I replace it preemptively or should I wait for it fail? How many hours are people getting out of them?

    Thanks!

    Doc

If the oil starts to look milky then its time. I would get a spare but wouldn't replace it just because.

  3. Thank you S E Lucas.

I have now checked back and I did write "Although ethanol could be put in petrol since petrol was invented in the UK".

I missed a full stop that should have been after the word invented. I also should have started the new sentence with a capital I on in so that it should have read as follows

Although ethanol could be put it petrol since it was invented. In the UK the addition of Ethanol pretty well ceased a few years after the end of WW2.

I guess I mistyped something slightly amiss and the auto correct changed it in a way that completely changed the meaning.

It seems petrol (in name at least) was invented in the UK "Variant spellings of "gasoline" have been used to refer to raw petroleum since the 16th century.[41] "Petrol" was first used as the name of a refined petroleum product around 1870 by British wholesaler Carless, Capel and Leonard, who marketed it as a solvent"

So back to ethanol based fuels. Can we agree that there is more in Petrol or Gasoline that is both beneficial for environments and aggressive towards parts?

  4. I keep my idle high. If i stall in a section I turn it up as a general rule. Eventually i might turn it back down based on that day but in the end it is an on demand thing. When i rode with you last i felt that the temperature was causing my idle to be low so i set it a bit higher. Since then i have set my idle lower and tomorrow i would expect it to be different.

  5. Dad of 2 gasoline aka petrol was not invented in the UK. It is a byproduct of crude oil and was discovered by the distillation process and that process has been in place for centuries all over the world. One can't claim credit for the invention of a naturally occurring compound.

Ethanol is a solvent and yes it will "attack" components commonly found in engines if those components are not protected as any solvent should. Sulfides and chlorides also in fuel will attack metal and rubber much more agressivly if contents are left in critical quantities. Its not just ethenol that's bad here. Actually ethanol is great allowing water that will inevitably end up in your fuel and sending it out the tail pipe with out issue. With out ethanol you would have water droplets either cause miss fires or freezing up in the system. You have rain in the UK (no you didn't invent that either) and that rain will end up in you fuel holding tanks and your vehicles.

Have you ever seen adverts that fuel will help keep your engine clean? Well that can't be done with out some tricky chemistry and that chemistry doesn't always know what is friend of foe. Ethanol isn't the enemy here its etenol along with the incredibly complex mixture of chemicals that the fuel companies add to the base by product. You just have to know how to protect your fuel system or get comfortable replacing some things every once in a while. No fuel is perfect which is why there is so much attention around the energy topic in this world.

Furthermore you wouldnt want your two stroke oil to combine with your fuel regardless of ethenol. The oil is there to lubricate the fuel is there to burn. You wouldn't want those two to combine or trade places. You want them to be delivered side by side to the engine so they can do their jobs. All things in fuel have a job to do. I know a few things about fuels because of my background too.

  6. im intrugued with what a 138lb rides like. props for them building a ti bike that they will have to add weight to for TrialGP

    --biff

PS dear vertigo. please make a 120lb bike. im not getting any smaller.

  7. And I keep riding my Trusty Fantic...

But a 300rr keeps invading my dreams ......

a fellow team wgasa member got one and im intrugued but not impressed. we rode the hills in the mud because winter isnt here. the bike is well sprung but its still heavy. we were pushing each other and my gg over rode it but again im used to my moped he isnt yet.

  8. Beta jealousy will get you no where Biff. You'll notice that Jim gets the gold star with a nod to trials warrior.

Now to pull this project off without gluing myself, or a box of gloves, to my bike.

im bringing a box of gloves and can of spray glue to our next two day. every beta will proudly get the utters that they deserve.

  9. Not sure what you are implying here, there is no point making more bikes than you can sell? Surely to be competitive they need to keep the workforce gainfully employed all year round and this would dictate how many are employed and how many bikes per day fits that equation.

People have been implying that 80 bike production runs won't keep people employed. My point was that there is many things that need to be done to keep a plant running. It is also necessary to have the workforce to get your plant up and running again. I think people are losing sight that its not as easy as snap fingers spit out 80 bikes then stop. Profit isn't the same thing as cash either when thinking about manufacturing Return On Investment.

  10. Batch building eh ? Sounds like a fantastic economic option - let's have 40 people work flat out for 2 weeks building a 'batch' then have them sitting around scratching their butts until they are required in 2 months time to build the next 'batch'  <_< I can see that makes great financial sense...

Um push a broom, stock shelves, tweak procedures, train, build other things. Its not like you snap fingers and can just start building bikes right this moment. There is a small motorcycle manufacture that I have visited several times here in Michigan and its not as easy as it sounds. You have supplier quality issues to discuss and they are probably trying to get as many jigs and high process time issues out of the way so when there is need they can build as many finished product as possible. I would think that building up engine assemblies and frames takes a lot of time. Bolting these things together (as we should all have some perspective on) isn't as long of a process. Also consider building and buying in bulk saves on cost both before and after a machine is built.

In the world of economies to scale I can appreciate what GG is going through right now.... glimpse into something I had a front row seat with. https://youtu.be/acVuYHuO8GY
