    Old Bultaco

About 14 years ago I did a trade with a guy from America . The deal was 2 model 10 sherpas for a model 42 pursang and a model 73 tiron , whats very interesting is the fact that one of the sherpas I sent him had the matching serial nos M/B 1001275 , this was definitely the no as I keep a log of every bike I have owned and at the time it struck me it was the highest model 10 serial no I had seen (it still is ) . This isn't the first instance I have heard of with bultacos sharing the same serial nos .
  2. Hi Stu , they look like pursang ducts will txt you pics of standard 199a cases and pursang case and pursang cylinder

    Forks ?

Think you will find the offset goes to the front of the bike and they look to be ajs/matchless amc type , could be gen trials as the trials bikes had an alloy top yolk
  4. They aren't realy a problem , but they have to be up to working temp before riding hard as they are prone to cold seizures ,in cold weather the rad has to be partially blanked off to keep the temp up . Water cooled TSS bultacos work on the thermo syphon principle , they have no water pump . The frames are made from the same stuff as the early pre chrome moly stuff and handle realy well , in fact when the 350 AJR replica was made in the late 90s some people said it didn't handle as nicely as an original as it was too stiff .
  5. I have an original one drop me a pm
  6. Did anybody see the cheetah for sale at the off road show ? And did anybody buy it ? It looked a fair price to me and seemed to be all there

    More Bultacos

Hi woody , I have a TSS that once belong to tommy Robb the Irish road racer, and this is stamped up 100 123 6 , the 100 is for proto ,the 123 is the 123 rd proto / development bike and the 6 is for 6 speed .This tallies up with a chart in either the green or red bultaco books poss both which lists some of the 100 series bikes . Mostly early production racers / TSS/ kart etc although I have seen pursangs stamped like this but never a Sherpa . No doubt there were some built ,but who knows .As you say the 133 series was definitely built for the likes of Vesty , the Lampkins and Malcolm rathmell .

    More Bultacos

Bultaco used the no 100 to start thier prototype / development bikes serial nos followed by 3 other nos , never seen or heard of one as high as 717 though and i was under the impression this stopped around 1973/4 , think one of motocross rider jim pomeroys frames was stamped in to the high 200s and that was around 72 ish, they only made a few bikes each year stamped 100 xxx
  9. I would be suprised if i dont have one , i will look later and pm you
  10. Hi Stuart , yes the 10 did have a side stand , and the lug you describe on your later 10 sounds correct , a lot of bikes have them missing , im doing a 27 at the moment and thats been ground off . The stand is the same as the 27 and early 49s , its a 2 part piece with the spring inside the stand itself which has a ball and plunger arrangement . They move up and down a bit when on the move if worn . I have an original one which i have lent out to be copied and i have one fitted to a 49 which has an external spring fitted , if you pm me i can send you a pic
  11. Hi ,in trying to trace the history of an early 5 speed model 27 it may be best firstly to find out who was actually riding them in the European and national series . I'm not sure if Sam was riding directly for the factory at this stage or even if the concession had moved to comerfords from the Rickman brothers at new Milton .It was certainly around this period but I don't know for sure . So who else was riding the 1st 5 speed models in the autumn of 1967 apart from Sam ? As I have said in a previous thread I know Don smith bought his own and Benny Crawford rode one and the whearabouts of these 2 bikes are known , any help in this would be greatly appreciated , thanks
  12. Hi thanks for that , i have had a couple of pm s saying the same , i could do to find out who had help from commerfords realy . Sam was the main rider from this period but who else ? Don smith had a 27 but that bike i believe is owned by a french collector , benny crawfords 27 lives in the north , i know roy peplow had the odd outing on bults as he was a good friend of Sams , was jim sandiford still on greeves at this point ?
  13. Hi , i have a very early serial no model 27 reg no SPE100F , it was registered september 1967 and i think the reg no is a commerfords issue . Due to its serial no ( its between 10 and 20 ) and its early registration for a 27 i suspect it could of been given to a supported rider . I would be grateful of any assistance in tracing any of its history or if anybody on here has previously owned this bike i would love to hear from you . I bought it from the bristol area about 12 years ago , its not been abused but had been used neccesitating a bore to 73 mm , im having a tank made off the original in ethanol proof ( i hope !) resin glass , thanks
  14. Hi Greeves , i have a friend in Berga who may have a montedero for sale , you may know him but if you dont pm me and i will try and connect you
  15. Hi , i believe i sold you this 340 probably a good 10 years ago now ,i think your dad came to pick it up , wish i hadnt sold it now but i had too many bults on the go . I bought it off Dave renham and if im not mistaken he did say it was a commerfords modded bike and i think i remember him saying once had a sidecar attached for a short spell
  16. dont know why i have circumnavigated ? all i did was mention a new ish classic publication that had vestys bikes in it !
  17. Hi Stu , last sunday in october he tells me , but will check first as i dont realy want to miss them Pat
  18. True Bultaco prototypes had the serial nos start with 100 then whatever no the machine was , for example 100007 was the 125cc 1960 world record breaking bike 100123 was a TSS roadracer etc .They also had a habit of taking an existing model and developing it for another purpose as they did with 669NH0 as this first prototype sherpa has the serial nos starting M/B 4XXXXX. Sammy was playing around with a 5 speed well before 68 , there are photos of EAA60D (His second sherpa) with a 5 speed motor fitted , wether this was that bike with a 5 speed motor fitted or a complete new bike with the no plate swapped ,who knows? To be honest this bike thats for sale looks as bultaco 49 says like a first model model 49 . Also if it was supplied direct to sammy ,i would of thought the serial nos would of matched as most bultacos of this period only have non matching nos and only by a few digits because commerfords sold them as kit bikes and apparantly didnt bother matching the units up when they sold them (this is only what i have been told so dont take it as gospel ) Also i thought he rode ROU5G most of 69? again could be wrong
  19. Hi Stu ,it is off either a pursang or frontera but a 370 version the 250 pursangs and fronteras used a very similar hub(same dimensions) to the sherpa but had a lip on the small side of the hub to take a dust cover , later sherpas also had this lip but didnt use the dust cover , but just to confuse things i have also seen late sherpas without the lip , they probably fitted what was in the parts bin !Did you sell the sherpa? Thinking of letting the 198b go as having a scaling down session Pat
  20. Hi Stu , most of the works bultos had this airbox fitted as they had a bigger volume than any of the 198/199 types, the filter is probably easier to get to as well , that ex reynolds bike has been for sale for a while now
  21. Could realy do to have a go at the red rose stuff as its a long time till brians next one , thats if i turn up on the right day ! unlike the last 2 , gutted to say the least . Where did you find the 198b , looks a nice bike ,do you prefer it to the 158?
  22. Hi Stu , i have had a few of these b models and they seem to be put together with whatever the factory had lying around , my bike has 212(alpina) stamped on the lefthand case and the cylinder , if i get chance i will have a look at mine and let you know ,it needs to come apart anyway as the kickstart ratchet has started creeping a bit , i may have a larger type if you want to try that for comparison Pat kean
