  1. Sorry , I was being sarcastic , its a ridiculous price for a 340 in that condition
  2. Newly listed on ebay , cheap 340 looks to be a bargain
  3. Hi, for a brief spell some Bultacos were indeed fitted with a plug type filler cap ,they were just like a big rubber bung , the Chispa, Matador mk5 , Brinco and according to the Bultaco guide the 115/116 Alpinas had them which looks like what your new tank originated on , looks like its had its side panels trimmed though , Hugh weaver or lyn mobley should have a cap , there are always pistons for sale on US ebay at prices which beat new dealer prices
  4. I too have one or two odd ball bultos that werent imported in big nos to the uk . Mk3 el montadero , el bandido etc fantastic engines if a little heavy , proper primary drive and kickstart on the right , i believe this engine was called "Pedrables"
  5. Hi , this 27 looks to be a nice find , should have a 24 mm IRZ carb on it but they run better with a concentric or mikuni which yours looks to have fitted , still has its riveted rear hub , rear mudguard loop looks to be a bit different , shouldn't have two separate tabs . bars should still have the fixed levers like a model 10 and the alloy guards should be the same as a 10 and early 49 without the raised edges as fitted to late 49s and 80s etc . Is it road regd ?A couple of side views would be nice , Dave renham can supply the alloy side panels but they are easy to make out of sheet alloy , I can provide a pattern If you want to have a go at making them yourself , Dave also does the seats , they are a bit pricey but are realy well made Spanish items with a steel base . Pm me if you need a pattern for the panels . San Antonio 2 referred to the name given to the 5speed motor .
  6. The clubfoot was first introduced on the Sherpa T with the models 150/151, the 92 had the small triangular silencer between the shock absorber and the frame tube, although many it seems were sold in the uk without one , only the main downturned silencer. I could of course be wrong on this but my fathers first new model 92 came without direct from jim sandifords
  7. Why dont you time it so it runs backwards ? Then when riding backwards the pegs will fold the right way ?
  8. Very nice , you out leisure lakes in a couple of weeks ?
  9. . Hi Stu , how much are the ossa ones and do you find them a big improvement over the standard bult ones ? Can you post a pic , thanks
  10. Has anybody bought any modern wider alloy footrests that bolt straight on to an early sherpa (model 80 ) ? If not do they come with the pivot bracket ? Ive seen the older type but dont realy want chrome , at a push i could make up new hangers as on the model 80 they bolt on any suggestions appreciated thanks
  11. Thought Jeff smith rode a bantam early on as did Johnny draper well before 1965 or are you referring to the 4 speed ?
  12. If its a 175 the engine and frame nos should be preceded by TM and TB , this model was also known as the kit pireneos and sold with a dual seat in spain and used as a hire bike in the resorts .

    Fuel Switch

ideal is the make of fuel tap, r is indeed reserve , the tap with the lever in the vertical plane is open and closed is opposite to reserve ..
  14. After a bit of messing , I ended up going up 1 size on the main and up to a 40 on the pilot which is standard (I thought it was 20) and with the needle clip in the middle position and roughly 2 turns out on the air screw , bike is now bang on with no pinking , thanks for all the suggestions
  15. They were a 24mm IRZ , hard to get parts for now ,
  16. Not had time to experiment as yet , have got together various pilots a new needle and needle jet of the correct size and mains and will go from there , changing one thing at a time ,this weekend if i get chance ,and report back
  17. If its a 79 it should be a model 185 b ,blue in colour with black engine etc ,if its all red and doesnt have a b at the end of the serial nos its a bit earlier . Loads of them in spain but not that many in the uk , nice looking bike if its the blue one
  18. The letters before the nos on Bultacos correspond with the engine size . Pre 1973 or thereabouts they just had the one letter which was the M for motor , the frame had B for bastidor which is Spanish for frame . After 1973 or thereabouts the M or B was preceded by another letter P = 250CC R =238CC H =360/370 CC J =325/340 CC S = 200CC Z = 50CC (CHISPA) V = 125CC T = 175CC ETC ETC , There are others but I cant remember them
  19. Will try main jet first then , to be honest never thought of the plug . Its never realy run what i would class as perfect , but sunday came pretty close apart from the pinking , absolutley no hesitancy from the bottom at all , thanks for the reply
  20. Hi , don't suspect crank seals as it runs perfect apart from the pinking then doesn't pink when needle raised , so to me its pinking because its too weak that's why I thought of increasing the size of the pilot jet , will try this first I think
  21. Hi , rode in a trial last week and after a while of carb experimenting got the bike to be realy smooth at the bottom end and carburates realy well everywere else . problem is now even when not very hot I have pinking or pre ignition just over tickover ie under load , not terrible but its there , im on middle position needle , with air screw 1.5 turns out .When the needle is raised , the pinking goes and the air screw needs to be screwed all the way in to run ok , but only ok not smooth at the bottom end like the settings I have now. My thoughts are to go up on the pilot jet first , what do any of you guys think ? Carb is mk1 concentric and not worn on the slide , float level and main settings are as factory. Its doing me in as apart from the pinking its never run as nice , fuel is esso super unleaded as well
