  1. Quite simply, I agree with all John said about the Novogar. It's the minority dictating to the majority. However one problem I forsee is that, certainly in the past, many of these big one-lappers have attracted amongst the best in the country (As were Brit Champs Rounds), and the organisers don't want to see their event "devalued", such that the winners' roster reads Miller,Ratcliffe,Lampkin,Rathmell,Thorpe, Sauders,Crawford,Jarvis, etc...then Bloggs, Murphy, Heinz57 As he says, things have changed and organisers have to accept that. Perhaps over time, prestige will maily come from the reputation of the event, rather than the name of the winner or the list of entrants? I do hope that the number of rounds is reduced. For anyone with any sort of family commitments (or indeed business or weekend-working), to try and make it to all these is nigh-on impossible. Then there's the cost of attending all the rounds. In effect you are restricting the likely championship runners there and then and certainly not on riding ability-grounds. How about 6?
  2. I think the sealant may be added at the factory. I'm sure they wouldn't do it if it was not "really necessary". As you say, it is to stop water getting into the airbox..if it wasn't there, there would be alot greater chance of it entering! Personally i never use hosepipes/pressure washers to clean my bike. I have found water in the bottom of the box once, but that was after a trial with frequent river crossings, not after washing the bike.
  3. I rode a biketrial there once. Brimham Rocks? Yes it does!
  4. That's a good point re groups of riders, could get a bit messy if large numbers requested it. As I've never done any secretarial work (but have course plotted many times in the past) I don't know how many of these "Can I ride with my mates please?" letters you get. I guess that yes, they would have to be entered together in the ballot, that's OK, it's still random. Not sure about your point on being affiliated to "Club X". If the ballot is true then it doesn't matter which club they choose to put on their entry form, those Club X riders will be randomly distributed. Surely it would only matter if you were trying to somehow "place" them in the field? My point was that generally (even allowing for the fact that more of Club X's riders will want to participate in their "local national") they generally get the better (ie later numbers)
  5. BDMC, I think it will be apparent if it wa s a fair ballot, ie "Club X's" riders will not all be towards the back of "Club X's " national...and there will be variation, allowing for chance, between events. As long as there is a recognised system, I for one would trust the organisers, no need to book the "Grand Lodge" yet!. If a "top lad" decided to miss a certain national then he wouldn't gain any points that round would he?
  6. PS BDMC, I sincerely wish to thank you for the huge amount of effort that went into a great event. I am not having a go at the section plotting, certainly not the organisation, but merely the riding order, which happens in all the nationals I have ridden in. Some guidance from the ACU over how to arrange this fairly would be welcome. Regarding the observers, I think they're just sharpening their teeth for the world round...but please let them be even-handed.
  7. I agree with Jools in regards to better riders getting later numbers. I can't remember the last time I saw Dan Thorpe/James Lampkin or whoever in the first 10 riders out of the blocks (although J Lampkin was early-ish in the Chris Carter-and went on to have one of his poorer rides....) Perhaps clubs think the top guys won't show unless they're given special treatment-and perhaps they're right in that assumption. Jools, I rode with you at the front of the field in the Dave Rowland, and I have to say that despite what some of the "expert" spectators were saying, yesterday, I defy any sane person to state that they reckon their chances of a good result in the AJ would benefit from riding early, some of those streams were lethal early on. I finished on time, but had to ride about 4th or 5th through the sections to do so for the latter 1/3 of the event. Then there's the getting told off for displacing/firming small stones - rather rich when: a) We're already working at disadvantage of riding early The following riders benefit anyway c) When the massed throngs arrive subsequently, some top 15 finishers literally pick up and move LARGE rocks, unpenalised d) You never hear them tell off the "top lads" As this site is meant to be for constructive criticism, ACU, here it is: Seed the "top lads" - based on previous years Novogar points scorers+additional Brit Champs "players", place them in the middle 1/3 (or whatever) of the field and alternate the start order for those seeded riders, between events. Then hold a GENUINE (i.e. devoid of regional/ club bias) ballot for the rest of the start order before and after the seeded riders.
  8. ..I know we should all be rejoicing together at a time like this rather than revisiting the North/South trials divide, but when I last looked, Samson, Brown and Dabill were all northerners....
  9. It was a great ride around, not what I was expecting, with predominantly streams/gullies. They started out very easy but sure got harder, certainly national standard in places (Hawk's nest I think it's called), but nothing dangerous. Rode like a Muppet, throwing away much good work with a flurry of dabbing to avoid (or succumbing to) a "5" within spitting distance of the ends cards, dropping slack dabs left right and centre, BUT it just shows whata good event it was, as I still really enjoyed it. Man 17 did a great job- nice route guide/programme with section descriptions, loads of course direction markers, 2 (yes 2) separate signs asking you whether you had completed 22, 23 and 24 before embarking along a track, and they even organised the weather too! Well done you lot!
  10. Which YOU HAVE USED WORDS OR A PHRASE WHICH ARE NOT PERMITTED ON THIS WEBSITE. PLEASE DELETE YOUR POST/TOPIC. DO NOT TRY TO CIRCUMVENT THE FILTERS IN PLACE ON THIS WEBSITE? Is it TBM (back pages thereof) or Trialsworld?
  11. I've entered this trial for the first time, it's on the 3rd July. Te regs don't say much except it involves roadwork. Can anyone give me a few pointers as to format (single or multi-lap), severity (the hard course) and type of terrain (I presume mainly limestone rock)? Thanks
  12. im wayne holdsworth ...you can't be, I'm the real Wayne Holdsworth ! Off for a lie down now, it was very hot and sunny today...
  13. Why not deploy the "Man U" solution, and those in Slurrey can join Richmond/Bradford/etc MC, and travel up every weekend for "premiership" trials (Let's conveniently forget about Arsenal and Chelsea for now...)
  14. I'm afraid I've got to disagree with Stu... There's no need to chop up your old bearings! Once you remove the outer 2 spacers (my tip if they are seized is to apply mole grip or similar to the outer spacer and pick up the wheel in the horizontal plane, so it is dangling by the outer spacer and as the song goes "wiggle it", until the wheel drops), then all you need do is find a "socket" from a socket wrench set that fills the inner diameter of the bearings. There is a lip that protrudes from the inner spacer, just wack the socket and the bearing on the other side and the spacer, will be pushed out. It's then a simple matter to knock out the remaining bearing. Although i didn't try the bearings in the freezer technique, makes sense, although my replacements went in without too much "encouragement" from tool No. 1. I will try that next time.

I've recently changed my front to a 12 tooth (270 '05 model). Reason being 1st was virtually unusable. I rode a trial yesterday and did 8 of the 10 sections in 1st, I also find it makes 2nd more of a "whole section" gear, rather than having to change to 3rd. It's early days, as I've only ridden the bike twice with these gears, but I'm also wanting to get used to it for the Scott later in the year....
  17. If there's more than one about, I'd like one too-didn't get much response to my ad earlier in the year. They're about
  18. I've looked everywhere I can think of for these, and save for the top 10 or thereabouts that someone kindly posted on TC, they are nowhere to be seen. Come on, don't keep us in suspense YG, did I come last or not??
  19. Re the electrics, they say you should take off the stator-side cover to let it breath/release moisture now and then. Trimming the breather pegs for a tighter fit, +/- silicone sealant probably helps here stopping moisture getting in in the first place. I've got an 05 model, the only problems I've had are replacement gasket on clutch side (probably from sumping out hard), and a seized outised piston on the rear brake calliper (but I think these are new type for 05 so not applicable) They do leak lots of juice, i sent the carb to lampkin for modification and it has been better since. The rear brake pedal/assembly is a bit "heath robinson" and it is possible to lose the rod that links to the master cylinder (silicone sealant around the clip can help)- when re-bleeding the brakes i found i had to use a longer piece of threaded rod to get the thing working properly (and no, there wasn't any air in it ), than the replacement rod I bought from BVM, but maybe the rod length has changed for 05 with the new design of calliper and hence I may have received the wrong spare - now it works fine, good firm pedal feel and adjustment to spare. The seal on the top head race needs replacing already (but as a Gas Gas owner you'll be used to that..) Overall I'm very happy with it
  20. I'm currently using my first IRC. I'm impressed- did the Cleveland and the Ilkley Grand National on it and to be honest, the edge is hardly worn - certainly good for another few trials. It is the wear rate I've been most impressed with, it's hard to be objective re grip without doing side-by side test, but I certainly haven't noticed any adverse difference compared to Michelin.
  21. I've not found anywhere "near" Sheffield, but the nearest is Bracken Rocks near Matlock-
  22. Rode The Cleveland yesterday- first time in 14 years, really enjoyed it. All I can say is I'm glad I didn't attempt the Expert route, "No-way" we said, "Ridiculous" we muttered, whilst checking out some of the expert sections on our way'round the intermediate course.....then I find out today that Jarvis rode the whole trial for 5 marks, and it's not a typo! http://homepage.ntlworld.com/dave.ransome/...rialresult3.pdf
  23. Back to the original subject. As has been said, print it out in word (I reckon 90 font), and then attach with Technosel.
  24. Thanks. I just wonder how the "daytime MOT" works- what about fog etc? Don't want to be too obsessional about this but equally don't want to turn up and be told can't ride cos no lights etc....
  25. I've got an entry for the Cleveland Trial, and as this includes public roads, would it be advisable to work out how to get the lights wired back onto my bike? What do most other folks do? It is road reg, taxed and insured. Will there be any scrutineering issues if no lights?
