  1. Thanks for that pic and going to the bother, however i just didn't feel confident having the bike strapped to the back of the car (don't get me wrong, absolutely nothing wrong with the rack i think more the style of tow bar on the corsa) too much up and done flex so i have bought a second hand double bike trailer instead. Thanks to all though for your input very much appreciated Cheers, Steve
  2. Hi alan, thats good advise, i'll be prepared. If i had fitted a tow bar to my car (2.2 turbo diesel vectra) weight over the front probably wouldn't be an issue as she's a heavy lump but i lowered her in a moment of madness and now the front splitter pretty much scrapes over the tiniest of bumps let alone on a dirt track road, so i fitted a tow bar to the girlfriends corsa which is only a 1.2 mainly for the extra ground clearance. i'll keep an eye on the steering issue, Thanks, Steve
  3. Cheers gazzaecowarrior, thats just the info i needed, i'll have to get some ratchet straps and that should be me away. Come on GIZZA5, where's that pics of you and your strap on at that i asked for
  4. Hi guy's, i just got my new rack to bolt onto my girlfriends corsa, the thing is when i put the bike on the bike wants to lean right into the boot, whats the best way to strap her down also i take it the the two removable parts just sit in the bar that bolts to the towbar, would these not need a pinch bolt of some sort to stop it bouncing out or do they sit in fine? , sorry for the daft questions, i have not yet used the rack yet. Infact any pics of your bike strapped on would be fantastic. Cheers, Steve
  5. lol, try the 75ml and hopefully all will be well on the stalling front
  6. Just seen yours is a 2005 from your introduce yourself post, so 75 ml will be ample, double that and perhaps the fuel mixture would be out causing it to stall so for 5 litre's you would need 1.5% of oil. Cheers, Steve
  7. I'm not sure buddy, what year is your bike? if my maths is correct 3% of 5 litre's is 150ml which does sound like alot. someone told me that a with a good qaulity oil you should'nt need so much
  8. Hi proc, thanks for that, as i said all suggestions welcomed, he said that when he changed the small end he cleaned out the front pipe but she was still smoking straight away but saying that while we were out today he came off the back and actually snapped the silencer where it slips onto the expansion chamber, when we were repairing that, the exhaust packing was dripping with oil like it was saturated. Maybe changing that will help but she smokes from cold and all day long as though its something internally wrong. Cheers Steve
  9. there's a point, i would think 75ml would be okay for all years but perhaps an older bike with a bit more play in the engine would'nt hurt to run a little extra oil to be on the safe side just might be a little smokier, i'm sure someone will clarify that though as for oil type i always use putoline mx7 or the mx5 the mx7 is fully sythetic and the mx5 is semi synthetic if i remember correctly, the mx7 is a little dearer by a couple of pound per bottle, the putoline is good qaulity and you would'nt go far wrong with that. I'm no expert though mind, but there are my thoughts on fuel ratio and brand. Hope that helps Steve
  10. Hi guy's, a friend of mine has a beta zero, 92 i think, and to say it smoke's is an understatement, it's like riding behind a smoke screen, it's a blueish colored smoke. He says she does not burn any gearbox oil ie the same comes out that he puts in also he says the air mixture screw in the carb makes no difference at all where its at whether it's screwed all the way in or out it and does not effect the running of the bike. any suggestions as to what may be making it smoke so badly. He's running it with 75ml of oil to 5 liter's of petrol. all idea's welcome, he changed the small end gudgeon pin etc which he thought was responsible for the rattle it makes although it still rattles but he claims the rings and crank seals etc are in good order. i hope if covered the basics for any idea's for a remedy. Cheers, Steve

    Gg Heavy Clutch

I may be wrong but i was told using putoline light gear oil was not good for your clutch infact it could cause the cork on the friction plate's to come off, sound strange but thats what i was told, so i changed to atf dexron 3 and i'm not joking i noticed my clutch was lighter and smoother, i told a mate who was also using putoline in his 09 beta evo and he switched to atf and now say's the same thing that the clutch is lighter and smoother, well worth a try.
  12. Hi Grant, And welcome, hopefully i'll be doing some novice trials next year also Steve
  13. Once again thanks Jon, there was a little oily gloop showing around the end so i think its time for a repack. And the rear tyre has worn through the side of the silencer so the packing will probably need to come out for welding a patch on. Cheers Steve
  14. Hi guy's, Two questions, 1) how much packing should i use in the exhaust, do i pack it tight and how do you do it,(sorry for being a bit vague, never done it before) 2) When i had the air box out while and she was sitting on her stool with the rear wheel elevated i noticed the rear spring was slack as in the two adjusting rings were slack and the actual spring was loose, i presumed its just rattled loose but how tight should i make it i'e would making it tighter give it more spring for bouncing the rear end around. Cheers Steve
  15. Hi guy's Thats the front bearings in and to confirm yes they were the 6004 2r, a nice easy job to do as well which is always a bonus, i popped the rubber covers of the sides and packed in more grease as there's not much in there to begin with, i had a look inside the old bearings and they were knackered, all dry and rusty. Cheers Steve
  16. Hi guys, yes as Jon says the gas gas manual state's 6004's front and rear and also the company i've ordered them from state's the wheel bearings are 6905 for the 2004 on wards so i'll take it they will fit. If they don't when they arrive i'll let you know after i've got my bad words out of the way there not expensive but it's the time thing thats a hassle for me being in Shetland things usually take longer to arrive. Cheers Steve
  17. Hi guy's, thank you for the replies i'm going to order the 6004's. I've just had a thought perhaps the worn wheel bearings is the reason i keep falling off sigh if only. Cheers guy's steve
  18. Hi guy's, i have noticed i have some play in my front wheel bearings on my 2003 txt pro 250 i'm confused as to which bearings i need, there seems to be two types 6004 2rs or 6905 2rs Any help would be much appreciated Thanks Steve
  19. Turn your handle bars to the left to make sure the reservoir is at it's highest point and tap the brake line to make sure no bubbles are sticking to the inside of the line. you could cable tie the lever back to the bars overnight so any bubbles will filter through to the top and as for the squeak i assume a good wash with warm soapy water will get rid of any crud on the disk. Might not cure your problem but might help. Cheers Steve
  20. probably not the answer your looking for but would it weld then perhaps a carbon like cover to make it look good, if you can't get another one that is. Good luck

    Sooty Plug

Hi guy's, I seem to be firing the questions out lately any way as I've said in other posts i'm doing some regular maintenance on the bike and i found the plug looked black and sooty, i cleaned the plug when i first got her a while back and this is the first time I've whipped the plug out for a look. What i would like to know is what way do i turn the air screw in and how far each time. I presume screwing it in will lean her off a bit? and how far do i go at a time, 1/4 turn 1/2 turn etc etc would a few hrs riding be long enough to see what she's doing or would you need to ride for a weekend then check? Cheers Steve
  23. Hi again Deckmaster01,lol Yes you could be right, i was concerned wheather it would damage the fibre clutch plates i didn't think about the seals, it was just an idea that popped into my head, i'll just stick with regular oil changes, i use atf dexron III. Cheers bud

    Oil Changes

Hi guys, I usually change the oil every second weekend, probably a bit over the top, but for all the price of the oil i like to keep it fresh. When i change it there's usually a metallic look to the oil as you would expect really, my question is, would it do harm to pour say 100ml of diesel through the filler hole and let it drain straight through, to flush any metallic grains that would be resting in the sump, perhaps i'm getting to fussy Cheers Steve
