Congratulations and welcome to the club !
nice original looking bike.
I agree, my 4 valve engine is really a truck, power for a heavy bike (101kg), but great fun to trial.
See my restauration on

if you need some advice on restauration, please contact me
enjoy the TL

Hy M49 riders
My new footpegs are 4cm lower and 3 cm backwards. rides much nicer. Next is to ad a screw or hihger plate to the brake pedal, as I can hardly reach it on steep downhill sections, as the brake lever is now lower...
think, try, rethink, thats also classic trials...

Frame Number is early : M49 00060, bought on 6 December 1968 by my dad Mark, 40 years ago...

by the way, why is there no Ossa page in this forum? The heritage of Mick Andrews must be rich in UK? but maybe no space to add all the brands...
-
Hy
I had some time and added on the first Ossa page 2 small 1MB clips from 1970, Super8 film digitalised, poor quality but original and vintage, green/yellow Ossa Pluma / Pennine 250. Don't know the name of Swiss rider.
Event is International Alpentrial Oberiberg 1970 in Swiss Alps, won by Gordon Farley (wearing black and white checked cap) on Cota 247.
Prior Alpentrials were won by S Miller, Don Smith (whom I met 2003 at Scott Pre65) and Gustav Franke (met 2007 in N

Hello Colin
there is a nice Ossa 1969 Plonker in Switzerland, even Mick Andrews had a test ride in 2002 Moudon Trial
http://www.twnclub.ch/classic_trial_files/.../Moudon2002.htm
I just made a new Ossa page, have a look.

Hello gentlemen
My TL250 is 101kg, 45kg front, 56kg back. some trick pre65 BSA of Ariels are about same. But, it is rare in Europe and the power of the 4 valve engine is just great ! I always enjoy riding it. Sometimes I can even beat the lightweight TLR 250 friends at French AFATA trials. But this is just a side effect. Most important is to bring a different bike at the start and enjoy riding. A pitty, Honda could not sell the 4000 trail Bials TL250 in US, because Mr Millers TL300 would have been a great bike...
Would be great, if there would also be a Sammy Miller Highboy frame or a copy of the RTL 305 for the TL250, as the TL125 beeing reproduced now. Just a wish...
Anyway, I updated my restauration chronicle:

or more on

Happy 2009!

Hola Mr Greeves
As a M49 rider (with the round engine cases, 1968) I became courious about your "powerful" brakes...
What brakes are you using?
My front brake is ok, but I would not say it is powerful, needs all finger and pull strongly to slow the 100 kg down.
Any hint or source for Bultaco front brakes is welcome.

Hy Brian
Sure! feel free to link.
I'm also sometimes looking into your nice site for new pics.
I'm out for Ski now next week, will then have to prepare my TL 250 for the new season.
The saddle has an iron plate inside of almost 1 kg I guess !! plan is to make something lighter.

Great video, thanks a lot!!!
You have to click each file and save as ... in all (don't forget one) in a seperate folder on your pc, incl the .exe file.
Then click the .exe file and the .wmv file is generated automatically.
This ... .wmv file you can watch on the windows media player (double click or right click and tell your pc to play it with windows media player.
It worked for me today.
Good luck.
Are there more vids or clips from Eddy ?
I have a clip from the world champion 1977 in Switzerland Oberiberg with a Japanese rider (Hiroshi Kondo?) on a red RTL 305 (or 360?) It's converted from my fathers old video 8 film, no sound..

Hello John
I remember talking to you on Sunday at lunch stop (first in Spanish, as I tought you were, haha...)
I took some pics of your footrests. It is my next project to lower / set them back on my M49.
Are there many M27 / M49 Bultos around in UK ?

Hello Classic Trial Fans
I had a great time with my father Mark (82 years old, former Ariel HT5 rider 1958 in Switzerland)
Finally, I had time to put pics and clips on our club page.
We were minders with our rented Micra for our German friends (tankstop, etc)
What a rain on Saturday. Congratulations to all finishers!
here the link: http://www.twnclub.ch/classic_trial_files/..._Trial_2006.htm
needs ADSL, as many pics
Maybe I will ad later some clips from the muddy section 14 on Sunday...
Enjoy it.
Riders, for pics in better quality email me.

Hello Big John
Shield is original I think, was sand blasted and "bromatised" (kind of a chrom bath) by the former owner
I always like your postings. Now a (too?) personal question: I'm wondering about your surname. My sizes are 189cm, 86kg and foot 47 (12.5 UK). Do I come near you by any size? 20 years ago, they called me "el giraffo", because I could make a dab and save the 5 (like Felix Krahnst

Hello TL 250 lovers. I added part 5 of my Honda TL 250 project: http://www.twnclub.ch/classic_trial_files/honda.htm
I had to rebuild the engine, but it was worth it. Engine is 40kg.
I put the bike on a simple household balance: 45kg front plus 55kg back so about 100kg
I also put my Bultaco M49 from 1968 : 45kg front plus 53 back so about 98 kg.
Now, the Bultaco has more a cross engine, once you lost speed on a steep hill, you have troubles to go till the end. The TL 250 pulls like a truck, almost like my 4RT, really a great thumper ! As I am 86kg, I don't have troubles with the weight, I prefer a heavier but more powerful, torquey bike (that's why I was riding a Cota 349 instead of a Fantic back in 1983).
Keep the TL 250 running !

Pre 65, although not Trial (only the rider)
My father Mark had to tidy up a room to make space for his grandson. He found a pic from about 1956, showing (Scottish 6 days winner)Gordon Jackson on a 500 cc AJS at an international Motocross in Regensdorf, Switzerland, where Mark was watching.
The story was, that Gordon won in the last round, because he jumped over 2 hills in the last round instead of riding through the camel bucks like everybody did (and also the former leader till last round). Don't know if its true, but sounds like a legend, nice to believe in it. However, pic is nice and probably rare. Have fun.

Holla Senor Greeves
Looks newer than mine (bought from my father in 1968).
Are there still a lot M49 around in Spain?

Hy
When I was riding 20 years ago my Cota 349, I put in clutch plates form a Honda CB 125 (or so) with kork. I can't remember, but I think instead of 6 plates then because of the cork only 4 fitted. Diameter is same, but I had to cut each seond "tooth" (Cota had only 4 instead of 8). But it really improved. This trick was recommended by Felix Krahnst

Hello
Rainy Sunday here in Switzerland, so I put some clips on:
http://www.twnclub.ch/scottish_files/Pre65/2003_Pre65.htm
I was taking on Saturday afternoon videos with my Sony Camera, but had only time after 3 years to convert them to smaller size (it's still 1-2MB).
(needs highspeed ADSL to view or download)
Are there more pics / clips on other sites ?
Hope you are enjoying them...
And good luck for coming event !

I'm glad, I found other Bultcao M49 owners. Mine is M49 00 060.
I restored it in 2002 and am riding since then Twinshock Trials.

For tips, mail me on patrick@twnclub.ch
- install an electric ignition if riding in wet condition, it improves power and torque a lot and is reliable
- or at least cut from a rubber plate a sealing for the ignition cover, as the paper did not seal mine

Here another pic
Fitting parts from other models / bikes is always some trial & error. Maybe that's where "trial" comes from...
Unfortunately Sammy Millers don't have parts for TL250, pitty...as Sammy was the creator of the beast...

Hy Alan
Do you ride your TL 250 in Trials ?
SMiller Exhaust fitted to TL250: I sew 1-2cm of the original pipe after the small exhaust. The Swan Neck has to be bent e little bit down (abaout 1cm)and maybe a little towards the shock. I used a piece from a silicon tube (ok till 200 Degrees ?, have not ridden yet in summer heat)an popped it on the remaining (shortened 1st exhaust tube), used also some silicon spray. This allows to vary the angle and you don't have to bend the swan neck too much.
Here a pic
Hope it helps

Thank you Big John
It took me almost 1 year and more money than I thought to build it.
If you are interested in the story, more on
http://www.twnclub.ch/classic_trial_files/...onda_tl250e.htm
I was actually inspired by your red Golner Honda 300 once seen on this forum.
I still need to fix some funny noise coming up during the Trial, maybe the cam chain is loose again..No time yet, ski is now on the program in Switzerland
Twinshock means spending time on mechanics and service as well...

Hello Twinshockers
Something for the cold evenings at home.
I was riding on 15 January a AFATA Twinshock Trial Luxeuil in France, see their webpage for more info:
http://philmarg.club.fr/index.htm
I wrote a report with pics on our club homepage (needs ADSL highspeed, because I put many pics and some clips on it). It's in German, but the pics are "jpg".
Before the Trial I visited a nice Museum of Joel Corroy, Scottish Pre65 rider
http://www.twnclub.ch/classic_trial_files/...Luxeuil2006.htm
the Trial is on the next page:
http://www.twnclub.ch/classic_trial_files/...xeuil2006_2.htm
I don't know about Twinshock events in UK, but I think not winning or riding the best bike, but having fun and not falling is important and to see many different bikes and meet friends.
:snowman:
Cheers Patrick
-
:santawink: Didn't Tony Gorgot won the Scottish in 1983 on a "tank" Montesa Cota 330 ? Maybe the last win for a Twinshocker..(but not sure though)
Has somebody a pic from Tony?

Hello Bultaco people
Are there many Bultacos Pre70 like first Sammy Miller M10, M27 or M49 still running in UK ? Or maybe it is not so welcomed, after Bultaco caused the Pre65 classes ?
