TC has always performed very well. You know my feelings but I'll add them to the floods coming in and no doubt swelling that head of yours. Keep up the good work.

You're just kissing ass to secure that SSDT press pass :) I still have to respond to your PM, but I'm buggered if you two are getting hotel rooms when I can't find one ;)

You may run a good website but your planning can't be very good. You should know by now to book a year in advance. You can always cancel if it turns out you can't make it. Unfortunately I'll be there in some capacity so my rooms not up for grabs.

I sense the phrase "hot bunking" coming up shortly...... ;) agree though you'd think he'd know better by now

Wondered where you'd been hiding BF watch out for the curried cat....just so you know, gorgeous day in Aberdeen, sun splitting the skies and there's a trial on at Craiglash today..pity I'm stuck in work!!!

Weather's OK here too. Pee'd off missing Craiglash though. I missed the last round too I was in Louisiana all last month.

There'll be no hot bunking in my room. Unless I can persuade a certain member of the organising committee that is. :)

11 mississippi's for the front page and 14 mississippi's for the forums

I'm (supposedly) on a 10mb connection!

;)

I had the Virgin media 20mb connection but downgraded it to 2mb simply because you are *for general use* paying for something that is there only on paper. There are too many other factors controlling speed and performance that are out of the ISP's control. Its like having a Ferrari when you can only drive it on a bumpy country lane.

Try a connection speed test here http://www.ip-adress.com/speedtest/

Just for general information, the server for TC is in San Diego California. for example, getting the data to your computer means it will go through many relay servers. This term is called 'hops' as you can see below, getting the data (packets) from TC to my computer takes 15 hops. There was a timed out at hop 7 it appears. When this happens, the internet finds another route to go through to make the connection but you will notice a slower speed.

Heres the traceroute I just done -

TraceRoute to 69.64.84.211 [trialscentral.com]

If you go to this site http://visualroute.visualware.co.uk/ (and wait for the Java to load up) , you can do a test. I suggest as a comparison, you enter trailscentral.com and then bbc.co.uk after . (The bbc server is in London of course so will be much faster)

I also ran a test from Microsoft.com. This also indicates similar problems as TC is experiencing with routing latency and poor performance.

I'm getting between 60 to 128ms per hop for TC, and only 2ms for BBC.co.uk. It is also reporting some erratic behavior of some of the relay servers.

Summary: Put in a ticket to get the internet fixed!

San Diego eh? This place is the internet comms hub (called a "meetme room") for all of California and much of the US west coast. Every request to TC goes through here. If this place went tits-up we'd get routed all the way round the world and probably through a couple of those Chinese filtering routers which would be bound to flag some of the grumpier posts by Dabster, resulting in a blacklisting by the communist party. Which would slow things down even more.

So play nice folks and hope those guys in that meetme room in LA are careful with the wirecutters!

;)

From work, it takes 5 secs for the front page to complete then 3 for the forums (today, Sunday A.M.).

That's using virgin 2.2 Meg which according to the Atom test is only 1003 kbps !

Like Atom says there are other factors to consider.

(For the record I am barely computer-capable.)

If it's any relevance, I was getting a little impatient last month with the site( I am addicted) so I bought some more RAM for the PC and that's made a hell of a difference at my end.

There ya go. The power of your computer doesn't affect the speed test. So you are paying for a 2 meg service and getting 1 meg . Most people don't know this so they are getting ripped off. Complain to Virgin and see how you get on! I bet they try and fob you off..

Front page 11 seconds, Forums 15 seconds!!!

Kill the porn downloads and things will improve :)

I did optimise the databases today and things have improved a bit. I'm 90% certain it's people searching that's doing it. Searching is VERY resource hungry.

I disagree . If swooshdave is getting lightning performance simply because he is local to the server, then it has to do with transmission of the data to the uk. My findings today show that to a degree.

You don't have access to the info I do. I know you want a dogs bollocks server hosted in your living room, but I have to be realistic...
