I am about to purchase a set of new tyres for my 270.

My question is which ones?

I ride mainly in muddy (in woods) type conditions and clay (Cotswold finest) along with a little rocky obstacle to boot!

I was recommended to go for a Michelin for the front and Dunlop for the rear, as Dunlop is a good all round tyre.

Is this a good recommendation and if so, what would be the recommended tyre pressures for a 13stone bloke?

IRC for plenty of mud and the odd rock, can roll on rocks though

Dunlop for streams,sharp rocks and any conditions you want to avoid a puncture, dont like the grip a Dunlop gives on rocks not as good as a mich but a must up North, can be run nearly flat no probs,can be a git to get on the rim.

Mich, best all rounder, run at 3-4.5 lbs getting bloody expensive these days though.

Only my opinion no-where near gospel

In my limited experience all tyres are good when new, Michelin's seem to be good for longer !

I always run 4.5lbs rear and 5 in front. Tried softer and harder but always come back to these

pressures.

I've tried the top three makes on the rear and prefer the IRC, but as mentioned above, there's very little in it when new. I think it's mostly phycological to be honest.

IRC I would say, bit of a no win with the wear though, the harder the tyre the longer it will last but less likely to grip the best in most conditions

I agree IRC on the rear at about 4psi,up 'ere in Yorkshire we get just about every thing you can think of,mine's been on since Feb,still doing well-i use the same tyre for practice and events,so it's had some work

On the wear front, again there's very little in it. If you ride on the road at all, the IRC does seem to wear out by the inch rather than by the mile! I'd say that the Mich lasts longest..... just.

I find black round ones very good, for both the front and the back.

I have decided to go with IRC on the rear Michelin on the front.

Can anybody recommend pressures?

I currently run about 2.5 psi Rear and 4-5 psi front any suggestions?

What sort of pressure range do you usually ride?

I'd never run less than 5 in the front anywhere,6-7 on rocks, rear usually 3-4 bit less if really muddy
