  • I guess the rear rim looks like an Morad Akront Style High Shouldered type. If I'm right it was a common replacement in those days.

The guy say's in his advert that it requires a piston, rings and a rebore, so not sure what the story is regarding the rest of the bike. That is why i am trying to find out as much information as pos

W hat does the frame and engine number start with The first number are the model type and size ie.221=175 Sherpa or 198 199 are 250 and 350 Sherpa's Also do they match

Not got that information just now, the guy thinks it's a 370cc  so i was hoping that the pictures would help just now.

cheers

John.

It could be, judging by the swinging arm. Can you count the gears? If it has 6 that would be good news. Most will have 5.

Good luck

Mike

looks like a 199A frame but can't really tell if the S/Arm is round are box? if round its off a 199 if box it's off a 198B 199B like mine hear.

LOL

No ones mentioned the bottom frame rails making it a late 70`s model, they had round tubed swing arms before the gussets were fitted with the alloy sump models.

Still a bargain for £200

Where is it advertised for £200?, add that i have seen is looking for offers!

It's a 1978 model 199 if it's a 350 or a 198 if it's a 250. Originally silver frame and red plastics and mudguards.

Thanks woody, guy say's it is 370cc so may be had a rebore at some point, the seat looks like it might be off a different model?

Its been advertised for a few days, if I hadnt been pushed for time i`d have been and bought it.

I spoke to the guy who said he wanted £250 then later dropped it to £200 because I found out it was further away than he said.

The rear wheel is wrong for the model, looks to be from a much earlier bult.

Thanks for that, i have only text messaged the guy to see if it was still for sale, so had not touched on price, great to know that i can get it for £200, he is around 50 miles from me.

I have asked him if he could give me the frame/engine numbers to try and identify the model and he has responded and will get them at some point as the bike is in a garage not next to his home.

What about the tank and seat, do you think that they are from the correct year?

cheers

John.

Thery won't go to 370cc, it's not possible with a Bultaco piston. The only way to get a 325 Sherpa to 370cc is using an Alpina top end and crank as the 350 Alpina has a longer stroke. The most you can get a 325 Sherpa to using the 85mm 360 Pursang piston, as they did in the 340 Sherpa, is 340cc

The tank on the 199 was the alloy type originally, a bigger tank than the plastic tank now fitted which is from the next model. The tanks had a different profile at the rear and seats were shaped to suit the tanks. That looks like the original seat for the alloy tank

My eyesight isn't good enough to see the rear wheel in detail
