2017 Models Released. Opinions?

Info is on the todo trial website,

Well...just stickers and a brake pedal form the outside and the usual update to suspension tweaks and maps.

Interesting that they changed the piston design and added an extra piston ring (I think this is what the translation was saying!) moving from 1 compression ring and 1 oil ring to 2 rings and an oil ring.  Have people found issues with the 2016 300rr's...do they start to rattle from the piston end sooner than the 260cc bikes?  The standard 260cc bikes have 2 rings and 1 oil ring.

I do hear a slight rattle in my 2016 300RR, but I thought I was just imagining things. Let's hope it doesn't get worse.

  • Just got a new stock 2017 and 'white' 260 4RT to replace my old 2005 250 4RT and what a difference. Obviously I've applied some carbon fiber - as is essential!! No changes to gearing or anything like

  • stevelimb, Excellent write up. My wonderful wife surprised me Christmas morning with this beside the tree! I've always wanted a Montesa but they have never been available or dealers just didn't want t

The 300RR really responds well to the throttle, maybe even a bit to powerful for a novice.
This, combined with the weight saving and the pegs that are moved a bit more backwards, makes the front feel lighter.

For an intermediate rider like me a 260 is more than enough, I bought the 300RR just because I could. You only live once éh.  B)

For more advanced riders, for whom the bike is designed, the extra power and less weight is off course very welcome.

I'm very glad I bought it.

My mates told me today, I'm hearing things that aren't there

Now we can all wait for the 2017 4Ride. A 350 version would be good to go along with the trials type 260. Something along the lines of a Beta Xtrainer, bigger forks and brakes normal gear ratios, low seat, electric start, shock horror they'd have to have a battery. This is what Honda should be using Montesa for, bikes that are a bit out of the norm. I heard the Xtrainer's are selling like hot cakes and you can't get a second hand one, owners love them.

Can anyone tell me why all these modern bikes have to have their seats level with the gas tank it adds inches to the seat height, its not like you want to sit that far up(on the tank) anyway.

The only thing I know is a higher seat ( 90cm needed for homologation ) and some little changes to make the 4ride EU-4 street legal, the 300cc engine maybe possible, we will see....

2017 300rr looks great, Fuji didn't retire, but if you put the standard 260 white plastics on the 300 and put a Fujigas sticker on it, you've got a great looking Fuji special edition ??

I wish they would produce a Fujigas special edition

  • 1 month later...

I think a 260 would be enough but for me coming from a sherco 290 to a 260 there is a power difference. But the torque of them montesa's is unbelieveable the bike could literally pull you up a wall. If the bike can do that you dont need anything bigger but i heard you have to rev the bike like crazy to get it to go up something extrmely steep to be honest i am not sure. But there is now one cota rr in Northern Ireland. But why is everyone asking for a 300cc engine is this for the expert riders but then look at toni boi he's riding a 260 and he is world champion but then his bike has been modified.

Bou,s bike is actually a 313cc, the 300rr is a 280cc.

Honda Honda Honda!!!

What on earth are they doing, three models which don't make sense.

The Race Replica 300 which is a 280, it's should be called Race Replica for division 2 riders!

The Repsol Replica which is a graphic replica of the factory bike which is really a standard 4RT

The 4RT silver.

NOW...I like the Repsol look but would want the trick 300rr bike to ride.

My friend loves the silver 4RT but wants the 300rr spec

And another friend likes the look of the 300RR but wants a standard 4RT

See where this is going? Who is in charge here, for starters the super 300RR (division 2) is a super million miles away from Bou's Fugi, Busto's (division 1) bike, "THE" simple thing to do "IS" make a near factory replica of Bou's bike like every other manufacturer, I'm not talking about titanium bolts hubs and engine components, I'm talking about them using the same rear shock, CC, lots of the parts they use have been used for years so why not mass produce and put them on bikes that the public can buy.

Bou is amazing, but everyone knows how special those bikes are and, an R&D department is to improve the bikes which they use on the production bikes a couple of years later, not maybe 15 years later, do Honda read feedback from fans and enthusiasts...NO just their factory riders, unlike other manufacturers that rely on sales from their customers unlike Honda

The Repsol Replica is much more than a standard 4RT with some fancy stickers. (different suspension front and rear, wheels, handlebar, footpegs.

A four stroke will always be heavier than a two stroke.

And Honda might not be willing to compromise reliability for light weight. That's their prerogative.

A four stroke is heavier normally, the works Hondas are the same the 2 strokes though, and yes that's hondas prerogative, however that's their downfall, as their Trial sales are a fraction of other manufacturers,

Eh?

I think Honda translate that Into to plenty of sales to regular riders, especially at clubman level and beyond

You see plenty of 4RT's at club trials and I would say Beta is no.1 though
