hgas
World 125 junior champion Kieran touly has given up on trials the year after his championship win due to no funding or manufacture support from scorpa/Sherco .Bad news for the sport imo ,is this what modern day world trials has become ?an elite sport where serious backing or a large wallet is more important than talent ? Talent is important. Lots of riders better than him and younger and they are being supported. At 18 if he was talented he wouldn't have been in the 125 class Edited February 17, 2020 by faussy
baldilocks
Who else has been 125 champ in recent years ? Max Faude maybe but where is he now? Billy Green does ok in trial 2 Toby Martyn? Who was the Italian guy who won on a scorpa then went to vertigo ? 125 champ is still a world champion but it's a long way from there to trial gp. I don't think the factories really invest in young riders , top 5 or 6 in gp class perhaps get lions share
midlife
We all love the sport but we have to remember it is a minority sport. How many bikes do the manufactures make each year and how much money do they make. It will be frightening how much it will cost to do the World Championship.
hannon
In today's modern age, trials riders must not 100% bank on the support of factories. We see this even in Sx and Mx. Riders need to sell merch, make/sell videos, have a strong social medial following on FB/IG/YouTube with lots of followers/likes/subsribers/etc (most sponsors are looking for influence and impact on the general public for ROI), teach schools/classes, do shows, fund raise, get smaller sponsors (even maybe non moto related sponsors), have local clubs help fund raise, etc etc Just different times. The 100% factory gigs are few and far between.

Being a125 champion is too speculative to what he/she will do at GP level, unless they are really really talented. Touly at 18, would needed to have been in trial2 mixing it with Toby, Jack Peace, Aniol. Toby was runner up in Trial2 having just turned 18. The factories didn't miss him. Otherwise Touly would needed to have been winning the 125 at a more impressive age like 16, at the same level that martinez and hugo are at. Its a shame, but theres really only full support for 1 youth rider per manufacture Edited February 20, 2020 by faussy

I believe that when Gas Gas was in financial trouble and Adam Raga rode his factory bikes, but without support, he reckoned he need around €100,000 to complete the season. leosantanalg
kid is good but he needs to diversify! young riders gotta build their support, Instagram videos, self promotion and etc... I follow him in few different platforms and the kid never posts anything... if you not influencing, why should the manufacture invest? twowheels
I'd send him some money just because he's not whoring himself out all over social media, but I'd never heard of him before just now ?

If a manufacturers championship meant all 3 routes were equally given points things would change over night.
NAD1
Guess the support is there from the manufacturers a bit in the 125 class as there is a market there for 125's with all the junior classes around Europe / the world. I guess once the riders go to Trial2 the manufacturers have less to gain by continuing to support the rider. Massive shame as Kieran is a really good guy and great rider with potential.
