I have had chronic tuning problems with my 247T and spent hours on forums and decades (it feels like pulling carbie on and off, changing jets, needles ..... I recently had to replace the woodruff key got it started but it was dying for no reason at low revs and then hard to start. So I decided to pull the carb off for a routine clean and while I was at it I lowered the needle just to see what affect it would have. To my delight the needle adjustment appeared to improve my top end performance - but the cleaned carbie did not fix the dying. The bike is going great - probably best I have ever had it but for example when riding down a cow track leading to a creek cros…

Ok I have started to strip my mh349 down and assess whats required, I have owned this bike from new and used it for trials and for general nobbing about the countryside. I has seen little use in the last 15 years apart from a handfull of trials about 8 years ago. Its been buried in the shed since and has deteriated shamefully in that time. It still has the origional cables, front tyre, paint, chain and front sprocket the rear being changed from 33 to 38 tooth when only a few weeks old. So it needs; The frame and exhaust painting The engine rattles on overrun and the piston is quite loose in the bore so I guess a rebore will be required soon although the compression is…

Hi - I got hold of a plastic rejuvenator kit for only $30 AUD and had a crack at the rear mud guard of my TLR200 - the results to me, are very impressive - I just hope it is as robust as they claim. So I started on the blue side panels - and on one of these the old TLR and another decal had fallen off but the plastic is still darker where they were and no amount of sanding seems to even it off. does anyone have any ideas on how to deal with this and/or can anyone tell me where I can get new TLR side panel decals from

I inherited an 1982 TLR200 which was in pretty rough condition and so I went to work on removing the surface corrosion and I purchased VHT ( very high temperature) brand aerosol paint one for the barrel , another for casings and one for the engine pipe. Each paint is specific for their purpose. Now I could never claim to be a perfectionist - but I did my preparation thoroughly bare metal, clean and dry. I dried the paint in our oven (don't tell my wife) about 30 minutes at 120 degrees C. The barrel paint has been fine. The first time I tried to start the engine the carbie flooded spilling fuel onto the casings and the paint just dissolved leaving a hell of a mess. …

I see the new ACU rules for class 8 and 11 require that the twinshock suspension be "as fitted at time of manufacture". No more canting forward of suspension units then?

Hi - I have the Amal blues, just can't get good all round performance after spending dough on new jets, needles etc - I have been fooling around with a 2nd hand Mikuni VM26 from a DT175. It is in good clean condition and I have made sure all the jets are clean and operating. I have rigged up a suitable adapter to connect to the original air box. When I kick her over it fires then dies - after a few kicks I remove the plug and it's always wet. I did get her running roughly only at high revs and loads of smoke ( engine must have been loaded up) so I removed plug and left it overnight to dry out ( fuel off). Next day I removed the air filter - double checked seat need…

Hi - I need to upgrade my TLR200 shocks and there is little price difference between NJB Expert, Trikshoxs or Betors. I have no experience with any of them and I am a non competitive rider looking at mixed trial/trail use. Although I can envisage that I might try competition at clubman level at some stage. I seek opinions based on your experience with the various brands.

This is a big bummer, I think. Broken kick shaft. Between the 2 splines where the kicker arm goes on, there is a hole through the shaft making it very weak. Is this factory, or a cob job by a previous hammer-and-tongs man to secure a stripped shifter? Either way, the end of the shaft snapped off. Does this mean split the cases to install a new shaft? Is a new shaft even available? I wonder how the new girlfriend feels about engines on the kitchen table....

I have a Montesa 172 with Gearbox selection problems. Will go into first, but will not change up ? I've done as much as I can think of to repair (and I'm fairly mechanically minded) to no avail. The bike is in really good condition and a shame just to leave standing. A couple of options I can think of....... 1 - Does anyone know of a business or individual (preferable in the North East of England so I could take the whole bike along) who could repair ?? 2 - Engine swap ? Thought of TY175, or even TL125 (CG 125 etc) - Any opinions (or even any suitable engines anyone has lying about they may want to sell !!) ?? cheers and thanks in advance for any advice cheers John
