I'm hoping to start some easy club trials next year and in the mean time I would like to get involved in some observing, could someone advise me on the scoring, I know that 1 dab = 1 2dabs = 2 and footing = 3 stopping with feet down =5, but what about stopping and reversing with feet up and other technical tricks, I remember back in time that the front wheel spindle had to be moving forward or it was a 5 but has it changed in club trials.

Firstly i would invite you to read this link : http://www.advrider....ad.php?t=861765 This is a segment from the link above "Basically, one way to test the fuel screw circuit is during a sudden 100% full throttle snap from idle check. The vacuum of the engine will draw fuel INITIALLY from the fuel screw circuit (the progression circuit in delortto speak) and if too lean, the engine will bog and or die. If too rich, the revs will just build slow. Its very easy to detect a lean bog , so thats what you use as a indicator - so you start from a known lean condition and work towards getting rid of it. Ideally, what you want, is enough fuel to prevent a lean condition during t…

At 40 years old, Dougie has just won his 10th SSDT title Dougie just didn't 'win' it, by a narrow margin, he dominated the week and in the end won by 9 marks Nobody else ended up dropping less than 20 marks, for the whole week and some 180 or more sections To my mind (I might be biased) he the best all-round Trial rider, the sport has ever seen He's had a long and illustrious career, with 12 indoor and outdoor World titles, plus British championships, Scott Trial wins and of course SSDT wins and Trial des Nations team wins As an all rounder, I think he is the best of the best - the most 'complete' rider in the sport to date

Poor old Angusgill ! He asked a question that raises its head quite frequently and started a riot (well not really a riot, I like to exagerate). It actually made very good reading but slightly deviated from the original question; How much 2 stroke oil do I mix in with my petrol and what type of petrol ? Anyhooz, for future reference please participate in this poll. Many thanks GJ P.S. This was my sons idea so no nasty comments please. He has feelings, unlike his father !

Can anybody help with information and photo's on the bike that Armstrong developed in the mid-80's, as riden by John Lampkin ? It had an Alloy frame and was a Mono-shock with a 240/280 Rotax engine, i know that around 65 were made and badged as Armstrong and Can-Am's in 1986, and a further 10 more were made as 240cc CCM's in 1988. Thanks in advance. Gaff.

The first idea is old since my dad did this on his 1978 TY 175 over 12 years ago. The floating rear fender. The rear fender is like the front fender with low clearance from the tire. This enables more body english without the fender getting in the way. My dad had the fender hinged on the frame and swingarm. The rear muffler might have to hinge also. The second idea is another set of footpegs on the swingarm. This would work well with the floating rear fender. Let's say your going uphill and need more traction. You move your feet to the rear pegs so all of your weight is on the rear tire.

Hi - I just bought a new Renthal chain after reading in these forums that they are the best. However, a guy in my local shop just stated that they are actually made by Regina and just branded Renthal. He stated that Renthal don't actually manufacture any chain themselves at all. Seems a bit strange after what I have read, and also as I compared them in the shop and they appeared to be different to me, with the Renthal looking a heavier duty item. Can anyone confirm or deny this statement, as I paid a lot more for Renthal than the cost of Regina, and I would like to know if I paid simply for the name or not. Thanks in advance.

I was doing some traction tests on my trials bike and MX bike in mud and snow in a simple section in my backyard that has an off camber turn, uphill climb and over a log. It's an easy section when dry. When muddy, however, on my trials bike I'll slip on the turn, have no momentum, and spin on the hill without getting enough speed to get over the log. With my MX bike with knobbys, I can track through the turn, carry momentum, accelerate, spin and grab traction to get enough speed to go up the log. As soon as I hit the log with the knobbys, it will slip because of the hard rubber and often I won't make it over. The solution? A butchered trials tire transformed into the ulti…

Just got done with knee surgery and am getting a set of asterisk knee braces for riding my woods bike. I was wondering if anyone has worn braces on their trials bike, and if they are too confining or bulky.

Brand new to trials. I have a 04 Scorpa 125 which has a stop button. Just wondering if there is much difference between the Apico & more expensive Leonelli ones used on modern Scorpas before I buy one?

Hi all. I was going to post this in the scorpa section but thought it might be a little biased ;-) Does anyone have one and what do they run like? I seem to recall some time ago you would rev them and then down to idle would take ages. Like they were pulling in air. Thoughts welcome Cheers

This year I have been mostly using WD40! Just for an experiment - all this year I've been using only WD40 to lube the chain. It was a new Iris chain on new sprox & guess what - It lasted just as long as one lubed with good old sticky chain spray. I.E. one season. I ride most weekends and a few of the more interesting events - Reeth, Verdon etc so the bike does a lot of miles, for a trials bike. The theory was the chain has less dirt sticking too it & looks cleaner (prettier!) too.

Following on from the "Trials the safest sport" thread, what practical stuff would be a good idea to progress safety for riders, observers, and spectators? Over time having public liability insurance, handlebar pads, and helmets have all been easy and sensible things to have ... how about making sure there's a qualified first-aider at events (and everyone knows who it is), or requiring all bikes to have lanyard kill switches? What else?
