I'm not a metallurgist, but I do play one on TV... I was trying to bend the brake pedal on my kid's GG, so he could get his foot on it and learn how to use it properly, and....what the heck is that thing made of? It wouldn't bend with a 2# hammer! An experience similar to one I had trying to drill a simple (?!) hole in his skidplate. Hard stuff! Anyway...I annealed the pedal and presto! I could bend it any way I wanted. Despite the fact that I probably wouldn't bother hardening it again, I don't know how? Just out of curiosity, does anybody? I guess you'd have to usa an oven, because you cant see colored oxides like with steel.

Hi all, Just interested to know other people's opinions regarding the progress of trials bikes in the past 4 years in comparison to the 4 years previous. Is the difference between the 1996 model bikes and the 2000 model bikes the same as the 2000 to 2004 ? Is progress slowing down, speeding up, the same ? Ian.

Being a member of the Green Mountain Plonkers Trials Club in Vermont, I have often been asked what does "plonkers" mean. Growing up as a kid in the late 60s and 70s I always understood plonkers to mean one of two things. 1) How a trials bike sounded as it crawled over rocks and obstacles and 2) The act of crawling or plonking over rocks and obstacles. Can anyone elaborate where the word derived from? Is it Spanish as in the Ossa Plonker?

Hey Guys: After riding Ishy's little Scorpa 4 banger a week ago, I got to thinking about how impressed I was with it! What a fun little bike. It also made me think that for once it would be cool to have a displacement class (125) or, some sort of a IROC serie's format at the Nationals or in some of the regional serie's. A class where everyone is riding the same displacement of bike. Obviously at this point, Scorpa would have the 4s 125 market cornered, but if some of the other manufacturers got into making affordable entry level 4s bikes that would be competitive also, would sure make for some good fun, and open up a whole new market for people who want to ride and compe…

I think the one thing that I truly hate to do on a modern Trials bike is too bleed the rear brakes. It is one of those things that I was told, 9 out of 10 men have troubles occasionaly and the tenth is a liar,,,,,,,,, OOOhhhh wrong board. Anyway, so after a really long day at work with not a lot going right, I go by the powdercoat shop to pick up a mower flywheel that my wife wants fixed NOW, not yesterday, or tomorrow, but NOW. Andddddd, of course, he jobbed it out to someone else...... UURRRGGHHHHh. Come home and watch Dean ride some on the new bike, and that was pretty cool, he is getting the hang of it and after that decide to go ahead and hang the rear wheel / …

What ever happened to Freddie Crosset? I remember him winning two US National Championships back to back and I haven't heard his name mentioned since. He was a great rider and I enjoyed watching him ride at the US Nationals in Sequatchie. I was looking through some older Trials Competition Magazines last night and saw him winning everywhere back in '01 and '02. Where is he now?

I am about to start juggling suspension setting's etc. on my sons new Sherco 80. I will probably end up making more changes at once than I should, and have to retrace my steps to get back to a reasonable point along the way, but heck, it is all for fun anyway. So, thinking aloud,, If I raise (have more fork sticking out the top towards the handlebar) the forks in the triple trees, this will make it steer tighter, and the front end feel heavier and less likely to wheelie. It will also lower seat height and skid pan height. Roll the bars back, it turns slower, is more stable, maybe a bit easier to wheelie??? Roll the bars forward, quicker steering more weight on the f…
