General Trials Talk

I would probably have put this in SSDT 3 or 5 post had Andy not locked it. Watching the SSDT videos, other trials videos and my experience at quite a few trials it seems to be common practice to have sections on the hardish side which cause momentary stops and then mark them leniently as a 3. On the SSDT videos (thanks they are excellent) there seemed to be a lot of riders legging or stopping rather than riding. What do riders favour - hard sections with lenient (strictly incorrect) marking, or Easier sections marked stringently. I favour the latter

Like most I've plenty time on my hands at the moment . How does the forum feel the sport will go once it all passes ? Can't imagine we'll pick up where we left off, few of us won't feel the impact on finances and for a long time. Also are the days of just jumping in the van and heading off at a whim over, will it be local trials only? What about the clubs? It's tricky enough running Trials and added restrictions would be a real chore. Also would landowners be so keen to let us use there land? Also, what about the manufacturers, most are pretty dodgy at the best of times, will they even resume. I know I sound kind of bleak but we've had it so …

Out of curiousity does anyone know what bhp trials bikes are these days. I am upgrading soon to a 2002 beta rev 3 250 and I would like to know if there will be a big power increase.

Why are so many of the top riders Spanish? Surely trials is bigger over here in the U.K? The only thing I can think of is the fact they have better weather? I know the top riders seem to be able to ride in the wet just as well as the others.. but as it’s always dry year long they get to push themselves more. I haven’t got any better over winter because near enough everywhere is a **** hole and I just slip and slide everywhere and rocks are as slippy as Ice which means not doing bigger stuff like maybe I would i it was dry! Which bike is best .beta evo 250/300 or gas gas txt 250/300 .? Cheers , mike

Hi folks, Iv'e seen Montesa/Honda stats saying their 2022 260 weighs 73 kg, is that a real number? For comparison what is the real weight of say a Beta 2022 250? Just trying to work out exactly how much weight difference there really is between the Montesa and the 2 stroke equivalents

Just curious back a few years ago it was mandated all bikes were going to have to be 4 stroke then the manufacturers got around it and 2 strokes survived but Honda has remained 4 stroke on the world level is that the only 4 stroke to competing now? I also noticed Honda advertises their new production model has a motor revamped to ride like a 2 stroke instead of offering a new 2 stroke engine. So i am wondering is the ruling 2 stroke is ok only temporary?

Can anyone advise on a method to seal a fiberglass fuel tank. Mine has split on the lower edge seam. Would a epoxy resin be suitable. Or can I just use the standard fiberglass resin / matt. Thanks in advance

Hi just wondering what new bikes people reccomend the most, I currently have a 2017 gas gas 280 but looking to get something new towards the end of the year but no idea What, I would get a new gas gas 300 but a mate of mine has just bought one and is having problems with it bogging out etc, I like the look of trs but have another mate with one that the throttle got stuck on and it went bang and he's had lots of trouble getting parts for it, I don't really like the look of vertigo and think there way overpriced. I normally use fully synthetic Castrol ‘racing’ mixed at 80mil of oil to a gallon of fuel. I accidentally bought castrol 1 (not racing) is this still ok to use? It’s a 12 beta evo! Thanks.

Come on then, what do people think of these bands. Personally i think they are fantastic, I first thought they were a load of rubbish. But whilst i was in Trials Uk's shop, i saw the lads do some tests on another customer. Absolutly fantastic. So i got one too. I wore it that night for thai boxing and i was like a machine. I had the besgt session in a long time. Is it true or is it mind over matter??? Whats your thoughts?

Fancied changing my present bike for a nearly new 200. I am a novice rider though I am note intimidated by the power of a big bike. To my mind a 200 would seem to be the ideal compromise of power to weight though they do not seem popular with other riders. Does anybody thoughts or experience of 200s. Thanks, Scraggydog

Could it be true? I just returned from a Trade show a couple of weeks ago , were I spoke to a manager of a company who makes cheap scooters and bicycles. This company is already producing bicycles for trials that retail for around 300.00 in the US. Im sure many of you have seen the youngsters zooming around the pits on these 20'' bicycles and now 26'' wheeled models are being sold. So, I asked if there was a motorcycle trials bike in R&D and he said they would have pictures by July of this year. ello peeps. This is not strictly about trials but i hope someone can help. I need to know what kind of acid they use for dipping metal petrol tanks etc to remove old paint, rust etc. Plus where can i get enough to make about 50 litres Please only reply if you know for sure as i have had helpful people suggesting lots of stuff (guessing i think) and it just creates confusion. There must be someone on here who has worked for an acid dipping firm. Thanks in advance for any help. Marcus

What's the difference between the D803F and the D803GP? and are the D803F front tyres any good?

Hi folks.... Just changed the front and back tyre on my bike...... Front (tubed) is fine, but rear is leaking air through the spokes. I don't fancy fitting a new rim band as I understand their a pig to fit.... And too be honest, I don't fancy removing the tyre again to bead silicone/sikaflex or the like as I've just (foolishly) fitted some nice rim tapes...... I went to halfords earlier today to see if any of this "slime" or goop stuff would do the job...... But on reading the label I understood it that the goo would be flung out to the tyre tread itself centrifugally, but I don't think any would manage to run itself around the actual wheel rim ? 2 weeks ago my local club held a 'trials training day'. Broken down this consisted of 1.5 hours of practising on 8 sections that had been set out, then 3 laps of these 8 sections with a score card. Bearing in mind this 'training day' had no effect on any club championship points in either the 'A' or 'B' route. I ride whenever i can but am new to the sport of trials in only the last year and so i enter the 'B' route. I work away from home from 4 - 6 weeks at a time and so this day was only the second time on my bike in 8 weeks due to work and holiday commitments.
