I'm going to reduce castor angle on my farm bike project, so...I entered current steering geometry specs into an online calculator (I'm lazy and its quicker) but the trail was a lot more than OEM spec when calculated. I fiddled around a bit and it seems the manufacturers figures are based on having no tyres on rims. This I understand would take out the tyre height variance of different products but seems its not a real world measurement. Are all motorcycles measured in this way for spec sheet? My bike is completely disassembled so can't check for sure now. I don't want to alter frame until I know I'm comparing apples to apples.

I've recently bought a nice original old Sprite trials, Villiers 37A powered. Anyone tell me the location of the frame number? I'd like to try and get an age related registration on it if possible, any advice on how to get one would be appreciated.

Hi all, I'm currently converting an old Honda farm bike to trials form. The bike is a monoshock but as the linkage assembly was badly seized up and made from steel I had to cut it to disassemble. The shock unit is also quite heavy so will be chucked away. Some advice wanted please; what would be a good setup to use/modify? I was thinking direct mount so as to avoid clearance issues with linkage. Cheap and commonly available would be ideal. If I used a shock designed for linkage, would I get enough rear wheel wheel travel? I know there's lots of variables: mounting position relevant to swingarm pivot, swingarm length, angle of shock etc. I'm thinking a…

Hello, I am a 59 year old that has ridden motorcycles for years. I had a 1986 Honda TLR200 Reflex and a 1997 Gas Gas Contact 200. I would like to get into riding very easy trials type riding in the woods around my house, not competing. Used trials bikes in my area of Northern Indiana are hard to find and I would like to start tinkering around in the woods asap as this COVID-19 stay at home order is driving me nuts. There are two within 90 minutes of my home. One is a 1975 Yamaha TY175 ($1,400) and the other is a 1974 Suzuki RL250 ($1,000). Both seem to be in the same shape. My question is which one do you think would be the better bike for me?…

Hi Guys, I hope you can help this newbie. I have just purchased my first classic trials a montesa mh200.. it is in good condition and had a lot of money spent by the previous owner. We took it out yesterday to put it through it paces and although it has started first kick every time up to now it ceased to run mid way through our session. I had a look today and it seems the plug was very wet and not sparking. I cleaned the plug and it briefly fires then its soaking wet again. I have stripped the carb 4 times today to double check there is no blocked jets etc and the float needle seems to be working correctly. I feel it could be ignition related as the spark …

Has there or is there anything currently regarding an EVO class in trials? Comparing to MX, EVO is anything pre 90ish, and superEVO pre 97ish. EVO i guess would be covered by what we call air cooled mono, but once bikes went water cooled theres nothing really to separate out another class. With 90% of people competing in modern trials on a sub 10 year old bike thats 20 something years of bikes kind of without a class, every bit as large as TS and larger than ACM and pre65. Will there ever be a requirement for another "classic" grade, or does trials just not require as many grades as MX? When/if that time comes, what do you think will be the cutoff, since theres been no bi…

Hi, I'm sorting out a 1967 500 Triumph twin engine in a B25 type frame. There isn't a lot of room for messing about with the primary chain tensioner at the back of the chaincase. I've seen passing references to fitting a C15/B40 slipper type tensioner in the primary case but can't find any real info on this. Is this a possibility or an old wifes tale??.

I have bought a new fuel tank, with a screw on aluminium cap. However, it came with no gasket to go between the cap and tank. The original tank has a gasket, which looks like silver card. What material to use to make a disc about 43mm diameter, 3mm thick? Thought about using part of a wellington boot. Ideas? Thanks in anticipation.

Good Day, Just starting a Villiers 6e 197cc rebuild. I haven't done bottom end on a Villiers before. Can anyone throw some light on separating crank? Will I need the services of an engine specialist? Will probably have more questions as the project advances. Thanks in advance.

I need a black plastic universal rear fender/mudguard for a Honda TL 125 in a Sammy Miller frame.. I bought a Gonelli from Fecked, but they are short - sort of 3/4 length. I bought a second and tried joining them together, but the profile was wrong and it looked rubbish. They sell white and silver, and other colours are available, but apparently not black. I don't want to paint or use alloy ones. Any ideas?

Hi guys, Not sure if you will be able to help but I have an disassembled Bantam D5 frame which is partway through a trials conversion. I would like to change the headstock angle but can't any information on how much to change it. I am unsure of the original angle from when the bike is built up with original forks and rear shocks - I would like to increase both the front and rear by the same height, so if I could find the original angle of the forks when resting, I could tweak this by x amount until I have the angle I require, which will remain constant despite the height. Has anybody else done this modification and knows how much to change it by, or does anyone have …

Hi, when the Honda Cub was launched in 1958, apparently sometime after Honda entered a team in the Ssdt. I am talking about the C50/70/90 range of Cubs(autos) not the road bikes with manual clutch as was seen at the pre 65 this year. The Honda Cub was probably the most important motorcycle ever launched, look at the production figures. If it is true about the trials debut I as a Cub fan have not seen anything about it. P.S I have seen the U.S variations with knobbly tyres etc and high level exhaust systems. Thanks.
