TY175 questions but reed valves in general. In talking to a reputable engine builder he said that "in his experience a softer reed pedal worked better for trials applications." I have replaced my stock reeds with a set of Boysen reeds but couldn't feel any difference, thoughts? Could you tell a difference or is it an accumaltive increase with each little bit making it some what better? I didn't get to ask him about the metal reed stops on the reeds, would the work better in the stock positions or would they work better if you "bent" them so they would open wider or again would it be a waist of time and energy? This is all in search of the just a little more low end grunt…

  2. My recently purchased 1975 Yamaha Ty250 appears to have an enlarged aftermarket reed valve intake. I had to cut a new carb to air cleaner boot by about 15mm to get it to fit without crimping. Does anyone know what brand of aftermarket "performance" reed valve upgrade blocks would have been common back in the day. Or does anyone know of someone who still provides a block and reeds that would fit? My current reeds are frayed and broken.

Hi, my rear hub brake needs relining, the new pads do not engage with the hub enough to work. Can anyone recommend someone that can remove and replace the existing liner. Its a Bultaco Sherpa T, 1966 ish. Local to Oxfordshire / South of the UK would be a bonus, but Im happy to travel to get working rear brake. Thanks

  4. Interesting.. everything about trials.. bikes and the people , are interesting. Some of these older twin shock bikes are as old as me.. how in the world do you guys find parts to keep them going ? Just wondering about? Say I found an older gas gas ? (1999) A 270 to be exact.. will I be able to get parts ? Someone told me it would be difficult.. but, then I see these old classics restored.. They are beautiful 😍 what's strange to me is... Why do I have an opinion? I know what looks/ style of bike I like. I like the looks of the gas gas bikes.. We'll, truthfully.. they all look basically the same to me. Maybe it's because I like to say "Gas Gas" ..?…

Hi everyone. I have a trials tiger cub running a 14 tooth front sprocket and a 64 tooth rear sprocket and a 428 chain. The gearing is perfect for trials but I had a plan do some occasional green laning so my thoughts was to replace the rear sprocket with a 52 tooth for green lanes and revert it back to the 64 tooth for trials. On fitting the 52 tooth rear sprocket the chain was touching the top of the swing arm pivot point. Even with me sitting on the bike and compressing the suspension the chain was still slightly touching. With the 64 tooth sprocket fitted there is a 7mm gap. I guess that the other option is to replace the front sprocket for a larger one (such as a 17 t…

  9. Started by Bradocross,

I'm over in California and have been looking at a couple of vintage monos. One is a 1983 TY 250 and the other is a 1985 TY 350 . I've been told to steer away from these bikes as parts are almost non-existent (top ends, bottom ends, clutch, etc.). I've been told the 250 is a better bike but the 350 is in better condition. Any advice you can give would be much appreciated. I'm a novice rider, weigh 60kg, and I currently ride a 1974 TY 250. I'm looking for another vintage trials bike that is a bit more plush to ride and I'd like the parts availability to do a full rebuild if it comes to that. My local club has a provisional class for the monos so I'd still be able t…

I am doing research into the Cotton Mickmar project and am looking for a photo of the bike. I have this newspaper article with a of Eric Lee holding the frame he built for the Mickmar engine. I have been in touch with Michael Martin who made the engine and John Close who rode the bike for a season for the Cotton factory and they have no photos of the bike either. Any help would be much appreciated

  11. Can anyone recognize/ID these fork trees? They're on a TL125 with 34mm KT250 forks but the clamps are from neither of the above. The top unit keeps cracking so it's time to try to locate a replacement. Thanks for any help! John in NC USA

  12. Started by scooterspal,

Spent most of this Summer rebuilding a 1986 Honda TLR200 and now I'd like to learn to ride it. My practice area is my back yard for now. I put on about 8 miles this weekend tooling around the yard but mostly I'm making this up as I go. Here is my first question: How much is the throttle used for level riding. That is, do you have your idle set higher so you can leave the throttle be and use the clutch/brake to control speed?

  13. Started by Tiewrap,

I already had it for a while, but long waiting for parts and a broken CDI unit kept it from running. Now that it's running i am as proud as a monkey with 4 reproduce tools 😀 Hope they will add an extra pre90 class in classic trial.

Anyone know if a sidestand from another Yamaha model, (DT1, DT250 etc) could be adapted to fit a TY250 twinshock? Can't seem to find an original one. My bike has the bracket on left hand side.

A couple of minutes about her at 19 minutes in http://www.bbc.co.uk..._Fun_and_Games/ I remember her riding Bultacos in the Scottish in the 60s. If I recall correctly she had a shop, the eponymous Sportman's Emporium, selling trials bikes.

I just wondered if a different manufacturer makes something that’s a direct replacement for the joresa chain? Any help in getting a affordable replacement is very much appreciated. thanks 🙏
