  1. Thanks All for the input on the throttle. I was able to contact Graham at Inmotion after the holidays and he confirmed the production bike had a Spanish Amal throttle assembly and they still can supply it from same mfg see- www.inmotiontrials.com/product/amal-metal-straight-pull-throttle/ Cheers-
  2. Can anyone out there tell me what type of throttle (twistgrip) would have come on the first M10's that came out early 1965 (frame/mtr #117). When I bought the bike it had a plastic Amal look a like. As far as I can see in old period photos they appear to be an Amal with metal/chromed body (possibly #364-?) but there is no way to tell if they were original. Also does anyone have an original handle bar with the welded perches that could give me some of the measurements-height, width perch angle-? Thanks and Happy New Year

    Restoration

Should you "restore" your old bike depends on to what level you mean. To make it as good as, or better than new, should only be done as a labour of love that you want to keep in your house to admire. Do it to a reasonable level for the enjoyable times you spend in the shop contemplating changes, doing proper fixes so it is more dependable. I have gotten as much satisfaction out of working on my bikes as I did/still do riding them over the past 50 years. Restoring further than making it a really good bike to ride is not cost effective. You will NEVER-EVER come close to getting your expenses back. That is unless you are a machinist with unlimited tools/ contacts/ lots of free time and got the bike for free. Except for one or two models, trials bikes will never be considered collector's items that anyone will pay inflated prices for. There is a huge difference in a listing price and what it finally sells for. These bikes mainly appeal (sadly) to a diminishing market. They are the bikes of our youth, our "Prime" so to speak-(some of us not so prime as others-!) You can get your bike running and serviceable for not much spent. Take the above advice of people like "Twinshock" & "Woody". With the lifetime of knowledge that these folks have you will have it running in no time. Enjoy it for what it is, a good solid dependable bike that looks & rides the way a trials bike should. Good Luck
  4. Hi Mike- it is a 500cc Ducati Pantah left over from my more flexible days. Happy Holidays-Larry
  5. Scott- I am just finishing my "newer" Bultaco and it is the same situation as yours. It is a 250 motor in 325 frame. Odds and ends changed so I got rid of the black engine paint on the cases, but keep the fork sliders black to match the exhaust on a different look. Hope this photo gives you some ideas as to the colors your thinking of. I have a standard red tank that looks good on it and was thinking of white side panels as I could never match the polished but worn out Bultaco red. The world has enough beautiful blue ones, indulge yourself. Cheers LarryNZ

    Chispa

Hi Dylan- you might try info thru parts/workshop manual for the Ducati 50TT motor. They are probably easier to access. Also just by going thru the entries for both bikes on Google and Google Images you can get a fair bit of information. I think Pschrauber & Gasgas have good advice, it's a very interesting bike, especially being the first one and well worth doing a nice job on it. Good luck-
  7. You would be looking at a fair bit of $ for the cable, brake lever and bits. Check ebay & InMotion for both and it will give you an idea of cost. Another point to consider is your shifter will not clear the case unless you mount it vertically and cut a bit out of it to shorten the throw & so you can get your boot on it more easily. Fairly awkward especially in a section, standing on one leg. If you try to mount it lower you must bend it outward to get it to clear the ignition case and the lever will be unprotected, just looking for a rock to hit. Also, I found that the kick start assembly was in the way of the lower mounting-very unsatisfactory all round. As above, the "feel" from the cable operated is spongy feeling as well. The cap you have on the shifter shaft is likely to break apart. I found that a piece of black fuel line over the well greased splined end gave a nice look and good protection. The caps are still available but as always, for a price. It might be an idea to get an old alloy lever and cut it to fit with a spot of weld & put it on the left side, vertically and see if you like it before you invest-Good Luck, it is a nice looking bike!
  8. If this helps I just measured a spare set I have for my 198-1977 250cc. They and the identical set in the bike are 545mm. I have had three others but all were the 198 or 199's and I am certain they were the same as these as I went thru them all to keep the best sets and put one set in my Tiger Cub. Sounds like you have two options, have the long one trimmed down ($) or look for a used replacement of either and have the matching pair rechromed. Also, can you folks tell me who you would recommend for rechroming-either in UK or Australia. The only quality service here in NZ I can find would be close to UK700$-! Good luck in your project.
  9. I have an article entitled "Fettling your Bultaco" that I copied from a Motor Cycle newspaper of many years back. It details Reg May's general maintenance points but doesn't really address any structural mods which would effect the actual handling of the bike. Also a tip from Bultaco Austalia on modifying wiring if you are not going to electronic ignition, i.e. taking windings for lighting out and going next step further and rewinding. If of interest I could give a try scanning it to you-newspaper photos of the mods might come out a bit blurry but your welcome to them. Classic Dirtbike #25 pg11 is an article about Bulty's that could give a bit of info-Steve Saunders pg13. Cheers
  10. Hi- If this helps- my bike is Model 10-#117 and I have the frame stripped down starting a clean up. I just bought it so do not know if this is a proper lug but appears to be. bult360-I too would be very interested in seeing what an original side stand looks like if possible-Thanks
