  1. Hello i am just attempting restoring a 1981 cota 200 29m. i have two of most parts but wont give them up in case i have problems i will be riding this bike and they are fragile so i am told, i need a few things myself. on my second bike i have a complete 200 engine in good condition apart from kickstart gears does anyone know were i can get 2665.001 and 6265.001, and 2665.140. it also needs a std pistion+rings bore is good and standard size. i also need tank stickers, fuel filler cap, forkseals. oh why did i start could i not just be happy riding my new bike...hehe:) just love the old 200's my first proper trials bike even though it used to jump out of gear and throw me down big hills.
  2. try some empty beer cans section, see if you can hop around them without crushing them, helps with lifting the wheels around??.
  3. It's fixed at last...After replacing the base gasket to a 1mm version, and fitting and head spacer, and giving top end a good decoking it's running like a dream :-)..., carburation is now spot on too, I think what was causing the problem the previous owner +50 mid life crisis looking for a new hobby, plenty of cash but no idea, come on we have all done it.., who rode it five times at the most, was inexperienced and had mixed the two stroke with way too much oil, the top end was really badly gummed up, once warm all the carbon was lighting fuel, not sure really but i just know now i have a great hardly used bike now and am as happy as a pig in sh*t after all the earlier problems.... i just love gasers again....you just cant beat em..with the head spacer made it much eaiser to kickstart too. Did notice that the barrel castings and engine casings also didn't line up 100%, it could have been the base gasket that did the trick but who cares, happy riding..
  4. Hello thanks for all the help, carb is fine, i am sure its the little end, the noise is heard after you rev the bike, shut off and it knocks, but i cant look at it myself at the moment due to work commitments, mech has it right now i am hoping to know by tom night what is wrong with it. the guy that had it from new was not a trials rider, by looks of it he put it on the road and was just posing about on it, maybe give it too much stick before it run it proper and developed a top end bearing problem? j
  5. Ah yes GGUK mentioned this, i took it out, float valve checked its number, 270k they told me to check that it was a 270k and it is, took carb to my mate who's a mechanic he checked it over and said it was fine, just blowed out the pilots like i had done, he mentioned ignition but i cant remove flywheel without a puller which is best part of 50quid. it runs the same on both maps. He Also mentioned water pumpshaft could be broke getting hot preignition, Dont think it is though the cylinder head is running at 60degrees and i reckon would be much hotter if the water was not movin around the engine. looking like it's gonna be an engine out job...;-9...first i may try and find a puller for the flywheel.

  7. Baldilocks you think i need a bigger main jet? 118 in athe moment GGUK say that is right some other guy said try a bigger one? thanks j
  8. The plot thickens, was advised by a guy today that he reckons is mechanical noise, well ie the little end bearing, He reckon so because the knock/pink happens when you 'back off' the revs and not under load when the revs are increasing. he is right when the bike is staitionary, but when i am riding it, and say do a hill climb, i am sure i can here it then too. sure i am not backing it off then on a hill climb. The bike is literally like new condition but hey some things are not always right from new i suppose. well i am unhappy now with no bike to ride ; - ( dummys on the floor with GG for the moment... j
  9. Hello Can any one recommed what to do in order to get my sherpa t back into action, The problem is with the brakes, it does not have any!! both front and rear hub have worn through the steel inserts, I have seen hubs advertised but i have never done any wheelbuilding. i am not looking to spend loads of cash if possible, there are enough things to spend my hard earned money on as you will be well aware..the wheels and spokes are in good condition. Thanks in advance.. J
  10. I have an 03 pro 280, well till last week sold it for 1000, it was a great bike not many like that around, swapped it for a much newer one but it was a bad move by me. i should have kept the money and my bike the new one is not that much better at all, i think you need to be an expert rider to notice. and new one cost much much more, try to get one that an older guy has, dont buy a kids bike they just wreck em. dont buy from pictures go and look, check linkages 'sag' or rear end, clutch will be lound they all are. watch for kickstart slip. i had an 06 sherco last year too they are a good bike too, very wick, i prefer the gg though. sherco riding positon feels forward on the bike to much, beta further back , gg just right, well for me.
  11. just swaped my sweet seven year old 280 for a 09 300, not let the 300 really go yet due to a problem with it pinking but other than that it seems great, I don't get all this head spacer flywheel weight etc etc, slow action throttle, smaller sprockets etc etc. ok if your loaded and have buckets of cash to throw around i guess but i reckon if you turn the throttle less then it wont pull your arms off as much i gather or am i being silly? i thought by now gas gas have made a 300 like it is for a reason. why not get a 250 or 280 instead of detuning a 300. dont take my advice it wont do you any favours i guess, can't even get mine to run right.
  12. Hello, yes it's got 97 octane fuel, have tried looking at the base gasket with wd40 looking for air bubbles, or drawing air in, well what's next gotta be the ignition, flywheel will be off for inspection tom, any ideas with that? got the correct jets according to GG UK 118 and 35 and needle support brass thingy 270k, i love these gasers but what a pain they can be when there just not right. Still think its the carb body myself takin it for a proper mech to look at see what he think's.
  13. Many thanks for your advice. Intresting dicky you said 122 main jet, Mine has 118 main jet gotta be a uk bike, i have moved the needle up and down seems best in third position from top, i will ring gaser for a 122 main and try a 38 pilot as Mr JSE mentioned, my other gaser had the NGK BPR5EIX and it was a sweet starter and run really crisp, just hope to get it sorted before weekend!!! J
  14. Yes dicky the pilot is a 35, I think the trouble could be with the hole that the pilot screws into, Just looks wrong, slighty offset, thanks for your help, has anyone ever had to drill the carb pilot jet hole? i will continue with my quest to sort it, ye it is a bit of a legfull to start it, my older 280 was a great starter, put it down to an iridum plug, Strange when you get rid of one bike that is seven years older and have all these problems with a newer one!! i want my 280 back...it was a sweet one...and 2grand less...happy dayz
  15. if it is a pro this may help? i did the hammer gears on the kick start shaft on a 04 250 pro both gears were about 90 quid from BVM stroud, pointless getting one, best to put a spring on too, only a few quid, have to take clutch out, you will need circlip pliers that open out, its not too difficult, bike should be worth that money if thats the only thing wrong, be carefull with the clutch pipe banjo bolt they are easy to cross thread and dont overtighted it, you will split the casing and they are expensive, thats what some kids did with the one a bought. j
