  1. The 199A is an excellent bike, I have recently been fixing mine to have a more modern feel.  The few items that gave me the most improvement was to move the foot pegs back and down about 1/1/2 inches, I have also installed the OZO adjustable rear shocks which are simply amazing that are sold thru Inmotion.  The best performance mods Ive found is to switch from the 350 flywheel to a 250 flywheel, it still has the tractor like pull and the zip of a modernish bike.  Ive also switched to a flat slide OKO carb that works very well.  I have also repacked my mid muffler and reworked the silencer to a Team Puma mod, which is basically cutting the muffler open removing the mouse trap design on one side, replacing it perforated steel and packing, then removing the twin tip exhaust and replacing it with one one inch diameter outlet...the muffler mod is also a must.

    I have also switched out the complete front end with one from a 2004 Sherco including triple clamps which changes the rake alot and makes it turn more like a modern.    If anyone is interested in my mods I'd be glad to email pictures, especially the muffler which seems to be a secret. Items in the future to test is fiber clutch plates and electronic ignition.

    I really enjoy riding mine, almost more than riding modern bikes anymore. Im also using s3 triple clamps and fat bars.

    attachicon.gifIMG_2590.JPGattachicon.gifIMG_2591.JPG     In the final picture shows some of my muffler mods, I removed the mouse trap, replaced it with perforated steel and packing, on the outside Ive removed the twin tips and replaced it with one 1 inch dia tip,  the exhaust is a huge improvement to crisp throttle response.

    Now that I like ! :)

  2. If it is a 200 pro (forward kick) , I Think swing arm may slide right in , along with the motor . If it's a rear kick 200 , different everything ... But with the right skill set anything can be done , But why ???

  3. I removed the intake silencer (top of stock airbox ) and used a portion of a old tore up K&N to shelter the now much larger airbox inlet . And the K&N made for the reflex ...

    And so far no carolina mud has made it all they way into the airbox , and it has been under water/mud . :)

  4. All I learned about the C@sta , When I had my 97 section(which is a great bike !!) Was it was a section minus the plastic body work and a different fuel tank . As far as I found out , was supposed to be the 98 model , and the restyle came about as Fantic was collapsing .... Never heard of any one who actually saw one , besides the few photos that are out there , which look like a mocked up section . I had a guy building a aluminum tank/seat unit for mine , so I could have my own c@sta , but his time frame and $$$ demands got out of hand so I shelved the project and sold the bike to a friend right after Bill Pye came through with the correct coolant hoses for it and I put X-lites on ..It was a much more capable bike than I am rider , so I decided to stay with my trusty 240 pro ...

  5. A little off topic but a useful tip that many are not aware of.   Using the rear brake to control traction - or more correctly to control the amount of traction - can help when driving the car, either from a muddy field, or better yet, when there is ice about.

     

    To get away from rest keep the footbrake just biting as you feed in the clutch - the drag of the light brake on each wheel prevents the wheel with least grip starting to spin, which would bring the differential into action and remove drive from the wheel where there is grip.  Instead of just sitting there with a wheel spinning you will begin to move off.

     

    With practice on a muddy patch you can even get to the stage where you can start off in second gear when you know the surface has little grip, and that is even better in really gripless situations.

    Old School traction control ! :) no electronics needed ! works great in snow too .

    If done correctly , Bike will pivot around rear axle ...  and lift the front , hard to visualize yes , but does work. With practice , a little momentum and spot on timing and weighting , you can get front end lift in zero traction situations . And trying to practice the move when traction is available , Well that can hurt sometimes ....  

  7. I always felt the Fantic was the ultimate aircooled motor with good performance (it spanned clubman to world championship level), reliability and longevity all of which was never quite surpassed by others. My preference was the 200 - a lot of people did not get on with the 240.

    I was not surprised when, fairly recently, someone who knew one of the development team at Fantic told me that Fantic themselves thought the 200 was the best motor they ever made.

     I hope your referring to The forwardkick Fantic motors , as they did not build the rear kick models  , had them built to their spec's though .

    I love the motor in my 240 ... And I've got a Sweet 300 motor sitting in a box , along with it's expansion chamber that I may try someday , but I've ridden a few 300 powered bikes and I still like the feel/performance of my 240 ....

     But to answer the question , on a scratch build , As Cope said "one you can get parts for " A yamaha 250 can be dialed in to anything you want , and alot less expensive to build than any Fantic motor . But stock out of the box , I don't think you can beat a forward kick Fantic in whatever displacement strikes your fancy , But I too believe bike and suspension set up is more important , If it doesn't hook up , You dab or crash !!

  8. 1972 Lotus Europa , John player special #040 , Dual Mikuni sidedrafts,  (screw the webers!) , Balanced to the grain , 9500 rpm not a issue ...Trick cams and abit of port work , Water pumps couldn't take the abuse . Modded her to a full electric waterpump system . She almost gave me a orgasm every time I redlined her ...Early flow master custom exhaust . :) 1250 lbs wet , 182 midengined HP @ the back wheels .... Formula ford with 2 seats and plates...

     Dam I wish i still had her ..........
