  1. Cheers for all the replies guys. Next question!! Fitted the carb with not too much bother, went out today and it ran like a dog, seemed to be hunting at the low end rev range. removed the needle and set the circlip to the 2nd from the bottom to allow more fuel seemd to be running not to bad after that. Anyone got any idea how the needle should be set at and what about the air / fuel screw. the old dellorto was 3-1/2 turns out what should the keihin be?
  2. Hi All. Just recieved the new Keihin PWK 28 for my 03 300 pro. Got it from BVM motos very good deal. Anyone got any fitting instructions, set up procedures. I also bought an additional size 48 pilot as I remember someone else telling me their's used to pink with the standard 45. Anyone got any pictures of theirs fitted with fuelpipe and breather pipe routing. Any help appreciated.
  3. Tonyp884. There is not a great deal of YOU HAVE USED WORDS OR A PHRASE WHICH ARE NOT PERMITTED ON THIS WEBSITE. PLEASE DELETE YOUR POST/TOPIC. DO NOT TRY TO CIRCUMVENT THE FILTERS IN PLACE ON THIS WEBSITE available at all these days, There is a new dedicated YOU HAVE USED WORDS OR A PHRASE WHICH ARE NOT PERMITTED ON THIS WEBSITE. PLEASE DELETE YOUR POST/TOPIC. DO NOT TRY TO CIRCUMVENT THE FILTERS IN PLACE ON THIS WEBSITE which only recently came to publication called " Trails World " which is a monthly publication. However it is not always sold at your run of the milll newsagents. Your friend may have to ask for it specifically. There is also a weekly publication called " Trials and Motocross news " which is quite readily available. Hope this helps.
  4. Admacp. Sorry I never got back to you earlier but I'm offshore just now and really busy. I haven't fully cured my own bikes rattle as yet due to fact I'm at work, but sounds more like a knocking than a rattle and I'm sure mine is related to spark knock. When I return home I am going to fit my new Keihin carb that I've just bought and see if that makes any difference. For your bike I would consider looking at the little end bearing. My bike really only starts the knocking noise when running at hotter temps or under serious load on hill climbs etc. I had a JT 350 a couple of years ago and the little end bearing went on that, but again it was more of a knocking sound also, but I guess it would be worth a look. Cheers.
  5. I'm not convinced that a couple of thou will give an annoying rattle as described from the piston clearance. My own 03 300 pro recently developed a rattle from the top end also after it over heated due to the fan not kicking in due to a flat spot on the stator. There is a very good description and some good advice on what to check for these annoying rattles at the following link. it might be worth checking some of the items described before buying new piston and rings etc. follow this link and read about " spark knock " http://www.gasgasmuseum.com/PDFs/Jetting/JETTING.pdf Hope it helps.
  6. JTT. No the bike was running fine before and after the carb strip down. I do thik it's a carb problem though. I plan to strip it back down at the weekend as I'm at work offshore just now. I also plan to change to the Keihin PWK 28 anyway so we'll see what happens? Cheers.

    03 Pro 300

Hi People. Out at the weekend having a great time when I noticed that the bike started to make a weird knocking type noise, more so when trying to go up a hill or under load. Stopped the bike on level ground and gave it small revs and can still hear it as a type of top end back ground noise. Doesn't sound like a bearing of any type anyone got any ideas? Had the bike carburation system stripped down a couple of weeks ago for a clean out. The bike was running great after that and then all of a sudden the noise appeared. Could it be a lean condition? Cheers. Paul.
  8. Thanks for all the replies and info thats great. Already made my mind up and going to buy one. Will let you all know the results later. Jools can you buy the reed block spacer or do I manufacture my own? Cheers.
  9. Try using a couple of G-clamps to compress the spring slightly to take off the compression from the adjuster nut. Hope it helps.
  10. Hi there. Anyone got any experiences to share in installing a keihin PWK 28 carb to an 03 300 pro. Looking for do's and dont's etc, best jetting options, good or bad experiences before I commit to spending the cash. Cheers. Paul.
  11. I know this may sound stupid but have you tried adjusting the adjuster nut at the brake lever. I recently changed my lever and inadvertantly pulled the lever while the front caliper was disconnected. I had to open the bleed nipple to get my caliper back on the disc. After doing all this my front brake was also spongy, I bled through in the normal fashion and then tried adjusting the adjuster screw at the brake lever itself and got better results. The distance left showing on the adjuster screw behind the lock nut is about 3mm and this worked fine for me.
  12. Had problems with my 300 pro in the beginning too, changed the plug and learned that they kick start right at the very end of the kick, ie: if you kick from top, you just tire yourself out. Kick the bike over with the kick start almost 3/4 of the way down with the choke on and it starts first or second kick. GG recommend that the air mixture screw be 3-1/2 turns out, I run mine at 3 turns out and 80:1 mixture and it runs fine.
  13. Jools. When you said that you replaced the left side crankcase seal, that is the seal behind the flywheel yeah? Did that mean you were losing oil from the crankcase? If the seal had rolled on installation would it not leak into the flywheel cover also? Cheers.
  14. Cheers. Was planning another srip down anyway so will clean ou the exhaust and try a bit of tinkering. Thanks for the info.
  15. I have been running my 300 pro @ 80:1 mix for quite a while and it runs fiine however it always seems smokey when going up hill. Sometimes ends up with the plug fouling also. Have tried screwing in the air mixture screw a bit to make it run a bit leaner. Anyone got any ideas, thought about maybe jetting up / down any thoughts / experiences with tuning for optimum performance from the 300 pro?
