  8. Im going to try some Magicals progressive fork springs £ 54. sounds like an ok deal. some were in the life of my bike schrader valve were fitted to the fork caps and some nice CNC pre loaders to set the springs up. did they use to put a bit of air in the forks to help fine tune them ..... Is it really....... Mich Lin...... Banned ...... or is it just a Holly wood stunt
  9. Can you get front mudguard stays like these, they seem to lift the mudguard up a bit higher off the wheel ..... may be better in the mud ? These have one stay coming straight up in line with the fork leg. any feed back please BR
  10. Hi Woody Thanks for taking the time to let me know what needs to be done and the best way to go about it im not very good at putting things back together ..... But i have ordered a manuel from Bultaco UK I have a friend that will watch over me he has always been into moto cross he has retired from racing now. But has never had a Bultaco and i have not got a clue yet but hope to get some of the basic maintenance wayed off. I will not do anything unless some one is with me till they think i can manage what needs to be done. So im really greatful to have people like your self and the others on here who have a life time of experience working on bultacos and know the best way to go about things, i have spent lots of time reading posts and taking notes over the last few years not sure which bike to get at first i always wanted a Bultaco really so i managed to get one just over a week ago. I was just worried about what may have happened inside .... ( I did not show my friend yet what i have done ) is it better to pull it out and have a look at it ? is it easy to get a replacement. and are they expensive . Thanks for all your help Woody BR

  15. Hi b40rt I use to have a really nicely setup SWM in 82 one of the lads from the south Liverpool club i use to ride with got one of the other 3 that Martin did not pick he said 4 came over from SWM and Martin had first pick and he got the one left over ...... was never sure if he was winding me up or not but it was magic to ride way to good for me and always egged me on till i was in way over my head Billy was about the same size and weight as me. So you have the best one the one Martin picked out Well Done that must really special to ride. I had a friend from work who got him self a bran new 348 mont and his mate had a new looking SWM mine was over 3 years old at the time old looked a bit tatty they had no idea how magic that bike was to ride, they took me to there practice place and after we had a bit of a go at there sections i was just plalying the SWM made standard sections fun endless grip and engine that would pull from nothing in 4th it was all about if i could stay over the bike and hold on long enough to finish the line. It came to swop bike time I was asked would you like to have a go on a new SWM so you can see the difference in the new model, he was so upset he almost would not talk to me after he had a ride on my Magic but tatty old SWM My work mate called me the B word i had made the mistake of telling him that i had paid 400 GBP for the bike and a nice trailer Thats the day that it sunk in its not about how shinny it is its who put it all together and the things they did to it when they were putting it together. BR Thanks for letting me know you have Martins bike.
  16. Hi Tony27 Thanks for the link to all the info i was looking for, the shock i have may be made by Fox but i needed some photos to try to id them, which there is on the link you sent, and they look like the ones in the photos Really well made but the seals have gone but the rest look fine. Thor have a rebuild pack at 40 USD. good to know. BR didn't seem to move much after the initial movement > < thats what i was thinking to after a ride on them
  17. Hi Guys Thanks for the info on seals, im very happy with the fox mountain bike shocks i had a look at there website but could not see a twinshock line of shocks. I had forgotten about the size and weight difference between my mountain bikes and a 80s twinshock motorbike i think i will be way out of my comfort zone on my 199A for some time its going to be fun. Every body seems to be happy with there Falcon Rockshock and Magicals on there Bultacos i dont mind saving for some thing if im getting some thing that works better on the bike. The plan so far is to fit some Magical springs for the forks still trying to work out what to put on the back. BR
  18. Hi Semllins123 thanks for the feed back I have the all the shades of blue 199A it needs some new bits seems to go alright. i see your from Wigan i have fond memories of many great nights out in the 80s, in the bars in town then on to wigan pier, im from the north west but work away. Thanks for the info on the rebuild prices i did try to call them but the line was always bizzy. I have been thinking about getting some Falcon shocks they seem to have lots of good things said about them plus made in england. And your very happy with them by the sound of things i was also trying to work out if there were much of a difference in the way they work on the bike between the steel or alloy ones. Have you had a go on any other Bultaco s with other shocks on them. lots of people seem to be happy with Rockshocks and magicals and maxton are 20 mins down the road but could not even find a price for them so not a good sign wallet wise .... BR
  19. Hi b40rt Thanks for the feed back on how they performed compered to gas girlings
  20. Not to sure what i have on the back of my Bultaco that i got last week but they are a bit past there best, weeping oil from the seals ... rods look fine to me no rust and the rods look stright ?????? like i would know any way ....... Can seals just go if the bike as been standing at the back of a shed for years or do they just go because they have had a hard life. They look really well made but the bit at the top were i would think the makers name would has been painted over ? I did find that Falcon can rebuild most shocks has any one had them service there shocks if so may i ask what it cost ? Im sure they do a great job but im just trying to work out if i would be better in the long run to get some new ones ? Been looking on the www trying to find some info / photos of Fox rear shocks to fit my bultaco, think they use to make shocks for trials bikes ? If you know of any links that could help then please post them below Any info / or photos so i know what to look for or were to look would be a really big help and i would be very great full for your time. Have been riding mountain bikes for the last 25 years and as soon as Fox started making mountain bike shocks they were so much better than the rest of the stuff on the market they cost a bit more, you got so much more performance for your money. So i was thinking it would be nice to try and find a pair for my bultaco sherpa Thank you for reading my post and all the best BR

  22. When ever i slip into saying Like i get fond memories of my saturday job on Paddys market in the 70s i love that word its a bit of history to me ...... hope you manage to make your self a great air box
  23. Well i now have a 199A that sounds good no rust, my friend will look at the engine next time im home. I think it needs some new bits cables, chain sprockets rubber bits air filter bits ..... Its all in bits so we can have a better look at it. Hubs need some liners and i was told you have to send just the hub to get this done ? so the wheel will have to get rebuilt the cost is starting to add up really fast ........ so i have started a account with a on line bultaco site they seemed to have lots of thing i would like when i had a walk round at Telford i have ordered one of there workshop service manuals Thanks for all your help i think i will need to spend lots more time on here really looking forwards to it
  24. Thanks again Woody i spotted the side panels and did not know they could be part of the air box till i spotted the diagram posted on here i was told it belonged to an older bloke than me ? who spent lots of time working on it ? and i was thinking good one just like my car use to belongs to a little old lady .......... I guess part may be true just have to see how the engine sounds.
