Here is an more up to date photo of my bike, i like having the gear lever on the right, i can set it a bit higher and out of the way of rocks and stuff. Your right the rear brace on the front fender
works well on drops and in the mud. I keep looking what friends and riders on here are doing to there bikes, to get ideas on what to do next. I would not have been able to figure it out with
out your help Larry so thanks for all the great posts on here.
Joe
PS the tanks colour looks really good on here but its more a bluey greeny colour

Hello Larry,
Thank you for your feed back its a big help to know why they moved the gear box drain plug to the side of the case i guess thats why it has a flush fitting alan key gearbox drain plug fitted to mine. I did fit a new bash plate from spain so lots of clearance now to help protect the engine cases really.
I keep trying to upload some photos but not having much luck, i have up dated all internet software but it seems to load but then says this up load failed ? not sure what im doing wrong
-
I think i have a 199A ! it looks like one. It say 199A on the frame and on the right hand engine case but the gear box
drain pug is in the wrong place ! same place as a 199 so it looks like one of the cases is from a 199 ? it has 199 printed on it looks like it was cast into it. Top of barrel also has l ( then a three legged symbol then ) 199-1 im just wondering how much of the engine is 199 and how much is 199A It runs really well other riders tell me so, im just happy it works.
I have been trying to load photo but can not get them to up load even tried advanced up loader will have an other go after tee.
Thanks for any feed back BR

Hi Fulltilt,
It seemed to be raining most of the time i was riding, i got to love the rain and the mud that came with it. most of the trials in the 70s had some road work and i need my goggles for the road riding between sections.
I thing the Beamish Suzuki is one of the best value for money bikes i had, you really do get a lot for your money.
I have been zooming in on the full size copy of this photo i hope im hold the bike with the back brake....... may be it was a straight down and up.
Thanks for the feed back
Hi Guy
I have bee out on my 199A to about 7 trials now and having lots of fun, all the jobs that needed doing have been done and some that did not need doing have been done to ............ will post a photo on the Bultaco page.

Hi Nelly

I have been trying to get a 2015 ACU licence and they say i need a new number from the club the old one did not work. Looking forwards to seeing you all again, really enjoyed the last trial. Been trying to
work out a way of stopping the chain from jamming with mud next time i ride at mouldsworth lot of great tips on here so i will be ready for the next event.
All the best
Joe
tried to PM you but you inbox is full

Thanks to every one for your feed back it all helpful to me
Thanks again Woody, i have what i think is the standard soft plasic Bultaco chain gard, may be it has a bit cut off the bottom it only covers
the top run of the chain, i can see what you mean about the tyer dumbing mud on the chain, now that you have pointed it out to me.
I have orderd a alloy chain gard from BUK. the one i have is way past its best.
Thanks again Pschrauber I fitted front wheel mud flap to the bottom of the air box like you told me in a tip you gave just after i finish rebuilding
my bike it really works well thanks.
Thanks againg for all your feed back

Hello ...... if you have a bit of free time it would be great to get some feed back on my chain jamming
My Chain jammed full of clay, sand and started to jump and jammed with a small stone just at the right time to get a 5, some one spotted the stone and managed to get it out for me, the chain was sat almost on top of the teeth on the back
sprocket and trying to do the same at the front. I readjusted the rear wheel so the chain was much slacker to try and give it space to clear its self which it did ( a tip a rider gave me on the day ) and then needed reajusting when enough of the mud had gone so that the chain was sitting right. because was now way too lose ,any way it was never really right after wards.
Has any one had this kind of thing happen to them, It was very wet an the event was in a sand quary it seems like a mix
of liquid clay & sand which bulids up and drys on the bike, it happend a bit in the same place in the summer. Is the a chain lube that works better at muddy events to help stop the mud sticking to the chain.
Thank you all for your help with this

I sold my Bultaco 1978 250 (198 ) and got a Beamish Suzuki it took some getting use to, there was a lot to like about the Beamish but i really missed my Bultaco it just went were i pointed it and the power was just right all the time and so stable in the sections, much more fun to ride. if you could let us know how you get on with your new Inmotion electronic ignition system that would be great.

I have a 199A that i have done a rebuild to ride i have put 11/39 on it, it felt too high for me at the start of my first trial but it was my first ride in 30 years.
But by the second event i was finding first was just right for when i need to go really slow to make the turn and second is just right for most short climbs
and not too high for some turns im only riding the white route setup for new bikes i dropped 11 marks at my last trial so for me the standard gearing of
11/39 is fine. for me it was more getting use to the bike i still have a long way to go but find my bike really stable and fun to ride.
-
I have the results from my second trial i dropped 11 marks so very happy, in my first event i dropped 83 im doing the white route setup for new bikes, its a nice club with a great team of riders.
My new clutch works and feels just as light at the end of the event has it did at the start so for me its a big improvement. the new carb has made it a smoother running engine and easy-er to
control but it was never the bike its me that needs the rebuild,
i did manage to strip the the threads gear lever bolt ! before the start of the 4th lap which made it hard to find any of the gears. I had my hand on the gear lever moving it about it looked
like i was trying to wind it up ........ one observer was like what are you doing i was like winding it up....... I now have a longer bolt to try so i can fit a nut on the end.
I had been out practising on my mountain bike before my second event, no were to practise on my Bultaco near by im use to a 10kg mountain bike with Fox suspension and XT 20cm disc breaks
A nice trail bike setup stable and easy to ride.
Of all the bikes i had 30 years ago the one that stud ..... out the most by a long way was my Bultacos they were by far the most stable and most predictable bike i ever had it just gos were you point
it, so i have to make my mind up and commit to a line. I always loved the way the engine always has so much grunt.
Because of being use to Fox suspension i looked on here about what rear shocks to fit.
I picked Rockshocks because im 80kg and most lighter riders seem to like them they are made in the UK and easy to maintain. In the Forks i was trying to get magical springs and caps but the website
was down, i think you can now get them from BUK. Anyway i was down in Devon so i popped in the twinshock shop they have so many bikes. I was shopping .......and they had the HFS system and it looked
so well made. ( I paid just over 210 GBP which was much cheeper than the RS220 i had my eye on so i got off lightly really )
So i ordered a set setup for my 80kg and to fit my Bultaco they set them up for you it took just over 2 weeks for them to arrive with a A4 manuel with photos and how to fit instructions. I got the Expert
setup with the air dampener and the air shock pump, you really need that pump ..... its a bit fiddelly to say the lest to get the air in the dampener but it is low pressure, im use to Fox air shocks so i have
been using that kind of pump for over 10 years, I ordered my Rockshocks and they arrived in about a week. I have never been a real wizz at setting up suspension i do like it soft so i get most of the
movement riding the trails i like to ride i think when i no longer notice what its doing then its right for me and with the 80kg standard set up from Rockshocks and HFS did it for me ......

Last weekend i road my Bultaco in my second trial in over 30 years had a fun day out lots of nice new bikes.
New clutch works really well. new carb help the bike run slower and smoother. No 5s this time ( unless i missed a section out ) just 1s and 2s so im starting to get use to riding my bike, just waiting to see the results to see how i did.

Hi Trialsfun
I have the PHBH28BS and Wayne Weedon air intake step up ring so it fits to the air filler intake rubber. To me the new clutch plates work so much better, when you say slip do you mean when kicking it over ? I have no slip on starting the bike
i never had any slip with the old clutch it just would not stop draging me around and i was getting cramp in my hand 1/2 way in to the event. The new setup is so much lighter at the lever. I will post again after my next trial on how i get on with the new clutch and carb if you like ? im just a beginner but they feel much better to me the clutch just works you pull it in and its not a fight, but i think if you get some one who
is good at setting the standard clutch up that would work well to.
BR

My old clutch had 12 metal plates i did read in an old post that said 10 ? then another that said 12 any way the new one works better for me got my dellorto setup from Spain.
And got some great tips from Patrik on setup
Hi woody thanks for all your help have pm you
