  1. Oil has only done a trial. Had thought about oil straight into the head.
  2. I haven't ridden the bike since early December and have a trial this Sunday, so thought I would get the bike out and make sure it's all alright! However when I went to kick it over I immediately noticed as the cylinder went up and down in the head it sounded kind of scratchy or gritty, which is not normal obviously...I then proceeded to start it anyway as its not horrendous (maybe I shouldn't have :/) and it ran ok, but the scratchy ness was definitely still audible. Pretty certain it's coming from the piston/cylinder. Should I just ride the bike a bit and see if it all lubricates itself up? My concern is that it won't and ill just damage the cylinder :/ Any advice please? Thanks, Jon.
  3. Not sure about the shock itself, and I'm not from your part of the country, but if you can't find any trials shops near you, an offroad/MX place will sort you out fairly reasonably cheap I would have thought.
  4. As far as I'm aware the titanium pipes are usually for more power (short) OR more low end grunt/smooth delivery (long). By definition the RAGA will be the short, maximum power pipe, which will probably give you less low down grunt than before. Just because it is made from titanium doesnt do anything extra to the exhaust gasses, they will flow the same, it is merely lighter. I guess only you can decide if it is worth going for, and whether or not you would prefer more power or more low end grunt, but if it was me, I'd probably only replace the pipe if the original needed replacing, or if I could afford riding, maintenance AND the pipe. I guess if you have the cash to splash, why not lol, but I wouldn't let it override paying for enteries to trials and the like.
  5. Try a very light smearing of silicone grease on the o-ring (take it off to lube & reinstall). You should always do this anyway to any o-ring.
  6. I would have thought the 30mm bolts would be fine. If you remove your current bolts, you will find that they actually thread nearly the whole 35mm (minus thickness of pump + crankcase), so with 30mm bolts you'r probably going to have at least 20mm engaged. One thing however - are there not 3 bolts holding on your water pump? My 07 Raga has 3 bolts (and one is longer than the other 2 - be aware). My 07 Raga should be the same as any 08 PRO and as far as I'm aware the PRO and normal TXT versions share the same water pump?

  8. Sorry to trawl up an old thread, but I didnt see the point in starting a new one. I'm looking at entering the SSDT next year as it's something that I've allways wanted to do, it looks awesome. I'm an OCdt at university and was wondering if theres any possibility of gettting any sort of help towards paying for the SSDT. If so how would I go about it (through my CO or through the army trials team or?)

  10. We have a vito and I think it normally get's around 40 mpg. What size are your feet (heavy foot ?).
  11. Hi mate. Having ridden trials first and then progressing onto a road bike, I can confirm the 2 are worlds apart. I know many people (including my dad) who has gone from road bikes to trials bikes, and he struggled more than I the other way. The amount of clutch control needed on a trials bike is difficult to cope with when starting out riding trials. When you ride road you just release the clutch and away you go, however when riding trials you need to feather the clutch (especially as a begginer) and this can be a bit of a pain to get used to. Constantly covering the clutch as a opposed to just wrapping your hand around the handlebar is a strange feeling for a road rider (from what I hear). I wouldn't count on your road riding abilities to help you out in trials, however I can gaurantee that your trials ability (as it progresses) will help your road riding, more specifically your track riding. Getting used to sliding the rear (it's fun so practise!) can really help for those unexpected times it steps out on road/track. Wheelies are also cool on road bikes, and easy to practice on the trials bike
  12. 5psi front and 3psi rear is a good start. I weigh in at a mighty 67kg, so I run 2.5rear and 4 front and I find it works fine. Any less and you risk damaging the rim and you don't really gain any advantage.
  13. Just when compression gets low - or it siezes on you! It probably says in the manual when to replace in terms of hours, but I imagine it will be quite a few, as a 2 stroke road bike your looking at around 6-7k miles.
  14. The way to tackle this is with demos, demos and more demos. If you have a demo people who are looking for the sport will get interested, go away, research it and then hopefully take part, without the chavvy lot coming a long to events, as there will be some kind of research into how to get involved. I think the NAME of the sport needs to be spread more. When I get asked out on my pushbike what is that, or when I say I ride trials, they are like "oh i dont know what that is", when you reply "Danny Macaskill?" theyre straight with it. It's all well demoing the sport, but people need to know what its called aswell!
  15. I've never noticed a difference on my 300. With regards to it being more noticeable in the upper rev range - when are you ever at high revs in really ****ty muddy conditions? You'd be spinning up all over the place?
  16. Obviously if both kickstart + idle gear are present, but not engaging, then the kickstart gear is not moving up the splined shaft. Is the hook type spring definitely located in the correct hole in the crankcase? If not the it will not stay still and will simply move around with the the kickstart shaft, and it will have nothing to pull against to pull the kickstart gear up the shaft. If it definitely IS in the correct hole; As arnoux said, if the hook type spring that attaches to the kickstart gear is not tight enough, it will not "grab" the kickstart gear and pull it up the spline. Contact GasGasUK for a new one (Y). They can be a bit of a bitch to get on/off, although I guess if your's is knackered it shouldnt be much of a problem! To get mine on/off I used a pair of pliers after holding the gear in a vice.
  17. I think there needs to be more public events + sponsored riders who for the more streety/urban kind of riding making it popular, such as Julien Dupont. With more people doing spectaculars and getting themselves noticed, I think more people will get interested. It needs RedBull etc to publicise the sport a bit more, not just MX as it currently does. They've kind of headed that way with such investment in Danny Mac, and I think if they did the same for a moto rider, the sport would come on leaps and bounds. Maybe a little more publicity on motorshows for trials also?
  18. I started out at around that age on a Beta 50, moving quickly onto a Beta 80 (both geared). I then went on to a Sherco 80, which I personally found far better than the beta, but thats my opinion. At first I was very weary of a clutch and wanted an automatic, but within a matter of weeks I was used to it and having a clutch is far better, and will help him in the long run. Definitely try and get him on as big a bike as possible (physically not CC) to get used to it, but don't try and rush him into one when hes not ready (if hes quite small for example(if you see what I mean?)). I was quite a small nipper so couldn't progress onto a 125 too quickly, but found once I did, it helped me progress to no end.

    Marzocchi Forks

    I allways thought air gap was measured with everything in, INCLUDING the amount the top cap pretrudes into the fork. E.g. If the top cap screws in by 30mm, and you need a 160 air gap, you leave 190mm to the top of the fork stantion. Could be wrong though, I'm sure someone will come and clear it up.
  20. Wow, took it apart, layed it over and it all literally just fell back together. Thanks for that steve, really helped, its all back together and working now. Kicks over perfectly, very smoothly (unlike before with the mangled teeth!) Probably wasted about 4 hours re-assembling, then today it plopped together with the bike on its side lol!   22. Yeah it's a pro. Was doing 1 wind but not strong enough so tried 2 but no luck stil..At a loss really as to why it's not working :\

  24. So I replaced the kickstart gear + idle gear as they were pretty mangled. When re-fitting though, when I tighten up the crankcase the kickstart gets super stiff to kick over, and will only flip back up if the crankcase is loose. I've wound the spring fairly tight to make sure it flips up as easily as possible, but as soon as the crankcase is tight at all, the shaft just gets really hard to move round. Obviously the crankcase needs to be tight otherwise the oil leaks out... Any help would be appreciated.
