    4Rt 2005

When I bought my Mont off Pidcocks in July I picked up a service kit at the same time. The oil they supplied me with was Castrol power 1 10/30 semi synthetic for the engine and PJ1 clutch tuner for the gear box.Thats all i've used and have had no problems at all. I change both oils and oil filter every 15 hours religiously, this may be a bit over the top but for what it costs and the small volume of oil in the motors it gives me peace of mind
  3. Yea I know what your saying Guys but what doesn't make sense is the fact that when the bike is cold it starts first time, it's only a problem when it's warm. A warmer plug should help when the engine is cold but the problem is or should I say was, when it was hot. It's all sorted now though, that's the main thing
  4. All this obsession with weight is just nonsense in my opinion, admittedly i'm not the greatest rider, but I went from an 11 Raga to a new 4RT, so from the lightest to the heaviest and I can tell no difference at all. A friend of mine who rides the expert route jumped on mine and said the same. I'm sure a lot of people think if they have the lightest bike it's going to make them a better rider, well it doesn't i'm afraid. Like Ham said "they're all heavy when to have to push them"
  5. If thats what you like to use then good for you, me, I like to use oil
  6. Yes it is strange Jimmy, I have to admit I don't understand how this sorted it out but thankfully it has and saved me a very long trip to the dealer. A friend of mine who sells and repairs bikes is baffled by this too, he reckons if anything it should be harder to start
  7. What I want to say is that land for us here in Cornwall is very hard to come by. Yes we have loads of waste ground through old mine workings that are perfect but unfortunately ramblers and horse riders seem to own all this and the first sign of a motorbike the police are called, it's the same for all the seldomly used wooded areas, old quarries in fact everywhere. There is a place not too far from me that has been used for trials for years, it came up for sale and some riders and another person bought it and now it's in danger of trials being stopped because the local residents are complaining about noise, it never bothered them before (it's got nothing to do with the fact that a group of them wanted to buy it but lost out). Another place very close to me, again the residents are moaning about us riding there, it's privately owned by a chap who's been riding for 50 years but these people seem to think that they have the right to stop people riding on his own land. Land IS very hard to come by, more and more is being taken from us, it may be plentiful where you are but I can assure you it's not the case everywhere and definitely not down this neck of the woods
  8. Just an update, put in a number 5 plug and it's starting perfect. I did try a new number 6 plug that I already had just incase it was my original plug but it was the same but the number 5 has done the trick
  9. Hope this helps Tom http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MONTESA-4RT-HEADLIGHT-UNIT-TAKEN-OFF-NEW-BIKE-/150939437354?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item2324b1092a Andy
  10. Thanks Tazz your an absolute star
  11. Hi all a mate has a 2000 txt 321 and is in need of a water pump does anybody have any ideas as to where he could get hold of one Cheers Andy
  12. Thanks Guys, I spoke to the dealer and he said the same about the plug, failing that they said they'll have it back and have a look, I hope the plug does it as it's a 700 mile round trip to the dealers
  13. Haha, I was waiting for someone to notice, got it in a nice bath of oil
  14. Cheers for that Shedracer
  15. Great looking bikes chaps. For some reason I can't post a pic of mine on here Andy
  16. Maybe i'm just too knackered to kick her over during a trial
  17. Yea did the valve clearances jj, not touching the throttle and kicking like you say. I'll stick a new plug in tomorrow and a new filter although they both look spotless. It just seems a bit strange that it starts perfect when it's cold
  18. My 4rt is getting to be a pain to start when it's warm. From cold it will start on the 1st kick virtually every time but when it's warm it's hard going. It's only 14 weeks old, the air filter is spotless as is the plug, I only use good fuel not supermarket rubbish and the tick over if anything is a bit on the high side. When it does fire up it struggles to pick up and then dies, I kick it over slow with full throttle to reset it and this doesn't work but like I said when it's cold, first time Any thoughts?? Andy
  19. I would have to say it's the cost of them. Since i've had mine it's like a magnet, adults and youngsters all say they'd love to have one but (the adults) say they just couldn't justify the best part of 1500 quid more than a top spec Raga and the youngsters have got no chance of affording one. Another thing that others say to me is the extra expense of servicing, 2 lots of oil, filter, o rings, gaskets, I know it's not a lot more but it does add up. Personally, although the 4rt is a tad on the pricey side I think it's well worth the money and you only get to find this out when you own one and start tinkering, then you see the build quality compared to the others and it just makes sense.
  20. As far as I know you have to pour the petrol into the main tank, but I could be wrong Andy

    Just An Update

I tried the bars forward as much as I could to get as comfy as I could but found the steering way too lively. Does anybody know much about these. http://www.dualsportwarehouse.com/Rox-Pivoting-Bar-Risers-1-3-4-Rise-x-1-1-8-Clamp-3R-P2PPL.htm I can't hop for **** either

    Just An Update

Cheers for that Zippy, that does make a lot of sense, the bar risers are a no go as the bottom clamp and top yoke are all one piece and are angled backwards so the risers would just bring them further back. As for riding like Bou or Fujigas well in another lifetime maybe but definitely not this one!
