  1. These bikes run well on the femsa ignition (points). I have just rebuilt an engine that had a badly corroded ignition, just cleaned everything up well and changed the points and condenser. You can get an exchange l/t coil from in motion if you are worried about the damage
  2. Would turning the fuel off not make the bike run weak as the fuel ran low, and therefore increase the risk of seizeing a racing engine... that would definately stop it.
  3. Hey Paul. Do you recon you could get a chair on that!!??;-)
  4. I was saying a similar thing to someone at a recent trial... As they get older most of them become more individual. I recently met a guy that owned my bike in the early 80's and he was dead chuffed that all of the mods that he had done were still present.
  5. Nice one. There has been quite a lot of talk about insurance prices going down recently... this kind of attitude has no doubt helped this no end. Good for you!
  6. Good call on the water in the float bowl thought. I had this the other week and this gave the same symptoms, cleaned out the float bowl and was away again. I am always careful with petrol, using only new cans, (obviously not careful enough). I think that we are going to have this problem more often with the amount of ethanol in fuel these days.
  7. Thanks for your comments fellas. It's pretty much the replies that I thought I would get, but if you don't ask and all that!

    Lobito

Hi. I have just got my grubby mits on a Bultaco Lobito. Engine number M-6200178 and was wondering whether it may make a reasonable little trials bike for Mrs Boghopper. I understand that it won't be the usual torque monster you would expect from a bully, but bearing in mind who it's for, I don't think that would be a bad thing! Any thoughts?
  9. Try serching ty 250 engine knock Shippy.
  10. I always said that my Bultaco could climb up a wall if it could get enough grip, but I didn't think of trying it out. Respect!!!
  11. What else have you done to it?
  12. Thanks BR. I know it's not trials related, but I thought someone may have had a similar problem and may be able to help. I thought that it would be difficult to get hold of a selector for it as it's getting on a bit and imported... But Cradley Heath Kawasaki saved the day again!!!
  13. Hi all. Today I was out trail riding on my kdx 250 when the chain jumped off the rear sprocket, wrecked the chain guide and snapping off the end of the gear selector shaft. I will be on the phone on monday to see if I can get one, but in the mean time has anyone had the same problem on any of their bikes in the past and did you manage to get it fixed by an engineer?
  14. Not sure about letting gas out of the rear shocks, but you can play around with different weights/quantities of fork oil to get the front more to your liking. As you said less oil/lighter oil would make things softer. It sounds like there is too much oil or prehaps someone has put longer or harder springs in if the travel is lacking.
  15. Bike looks nice BR... Bet you're looking forward to throwing your leg over it!!! Puts mine to shame ;-). Think you could do a lot worse than go for a domino, but the slow throttle for your bike, it just calms everything down a bit. We use Amal type levers or the pressed steel type on our bults, they are great once you get used to them.
  16. Happy new year to all... Yes there is a second small hole in the shroud, about the size of the overflow pipe on the radiator filler cap lineaway. Is this what you are talking about?
  17. Many thanks, I thought that it should have one... but in that tiny space, it must be small.

    Beta Zero

Hi. Could anyone tell me if a beta zero should have an expansion/header tank on the cooling system?
  19. I always use Power 1 in all my two smokes, bikes chainsaws strimmers etc. They all seem to run so much cleaner on the stuff!!!!
  20. If your engine is in good condition, your jetting is good and you use a good quality synthetic two stroke oil there shouldn't be much need to clean your exhaust too often. If I remember rightly the last time I cleaned out the exhaust on my bultaco was about ten years ago. I run it on castrol power 1 @ 50/1
  21. Try setting the timing and cleaning the carb etc. If you are getting a spark it should run. I'm not sure if the stator is the same on the different bikes, but there is no advance / retard, so you should be able to use it. At least if you can get it running you can clean the old stator, check the low tension coil, condenser and you should be away with that one. Someone will no doubt put you right on any difference between the two models. It's amazing what bull____ people come up with when they are trying to sell something, but I'm sure that you'll get it going. Good luck.

    Parts

You could try Allens trials spares. He's a nice bloke, very helpfull and knows his stuff. I was after some bits for our beta as we had trouble and needed the stuff mega quick. Richard didn't even ask for money up front, he just sent an invoice with the parts.
  23. What plug are you running in it?
  24. In answer to one of your questions, yes I think you are probably crazy! This bike is not built to go fast and should have plenty of power with a new piston and rebore.
