    What Size Chain?

Hi guys. What size chain would a 2007 Rev3 use? Im guessing a 520 but the current chain on my beta looks smaller than a 520. Anyone know for sure?
  2. Thank toofasttim, ive joined and met some of the guys.
  3. Hi guys My pops has a 2013 beta 300 and took his first minor tumble the otherday, hes still getting used to the vicous power of a trials bike. Anyway my dad stood back and watched the bike cartwheel out of his hands. In the multiple 360 degree process, the bike bent its clutch leaver. He says its a minor bend and he could leave it but i know my dad and his other bikes, itll drive him nuts. Can a alu leaver be tweeked straigh with a block of wood and a rubber mallet or will it crack? Any body have any tips on this? PS: I know he could just buy one but if it can be straightened, why spend the money + my mom will kick his @ss.
  4. Ok im kinda getting it. What plays a bigger role in hight of the rear, the bounce/hop/suspension or the second blip of the throttle?
  5. Oh yes, my drums are too slippery. Almost did a backflip over a drum sized log today.
  6. Ja you are right but at least they dont try to eat you afterwards
  7. Haha. As for the shorts, im a game ranger and try to practice for a hour every day in my lunch break. Im saving my pretty beta gear for events. Seriously, can my drums be too slippery making it dificult for me to get this technique right? There are some rocks for me to try it on but ill have to get a armed buddy to watch my back if I ride in the bush here, lots of eles and lion around at the moment. Supose I could make a rifle scabbard to fit on my beta and wear my 44mag, but it might be a bit restricting and heavy
  8. Im getting over a single drum relatively easily but from this position, my front wheel drops rapidly and is on the ground while the rear is still on the drum. What I did notice n a slowmo vid is that my rear wheel is spinning on the drum from this point untill its on he top. Now is this why the front wheel is dropping or am I doing something else wrong? Is my drum too slippery?
  9. As for the crashing, I worked it out. I got my bike on the 4th of may and in the last month and 4 days, ive sprained my wrist and torn ligaments in my ankle, so I must be learning something.......cause im a crashing . Im gonna try give more gas and and jump like a masai tomorrow. Will keep you posted to results or injuries. I know what needs doing, just need to do it and get the timing sorted.
  10. It might be small but its a hop. How would I get more hight? By jumping more vigorously?
  11. Thanks nuetron. Im not quite that smooth yet but im getting better I think. Im practicing this zap thing and a bit ofbalancing every day for about 30 to 45 min. I guess ill get it eventually. I do get whoever I can to film me with my cell so I can see what im doing. I also watch lots on you tube and compare the right way and my way to see where my issues are. One kind gentleman that belongs to the club I joined has given me 3 of ryan youngs training dvds. I will collect them at my first event and hoefully learn a few more tricks. Thanks again for taking the time to post the vid.
  12. I think I figured out what im doing wrong. Think I was lifting the front too late and it was still on its upward path when it touched down on the barrel, not allowing the forks to compress and pop the front up. What I tried today was lift the front wheel sooner and put it "down" on the leading edge and then did my blip and bounce. Well in not sure if the back was hopping up but it was a llot smoother and most of the time the belly was not hitting the drum. Progress.....I think??
  13. Thank guys. I tried my a*** of today to try hop the rear wheel and it just didnt happen. What I am ding is, lift front and put it about a third of the way down from the top. Then I load the suspension and jump up while giving a blip. What seems to happen is that the front doesnt lift after the jump and the bash plate slams into the drum. Could it be that the angle f the top third of the drum is not compressing the front forks enough to cause the front to hop up? Would it be easier on a vertical obstacle compared to a round obstacle?

  15. Hi guys I can make it over a single free standing drum but im not sure if the technique is right. Im trying the double blip thing, first one puts front tire on drum, second one I throw weight forward to pull back onto drum. I do try to bounce the rear wheel up just befor the second blip to help. Have I got the basics right? I am riding the bash plate over the drum and it doesnt feel graceful, more like just powering the bike over. Keep in mind im brand new to trials and have only been riding for about a month (2weeks of that has been waiting for torn ligaments in the ankle to heel).
  16. Thanks toofasttim. I am a member of nrtc but cant find a facebook page for them. There isnt much on trials forums in sa. Thanks for your post, guess ill just have to wait for my first trial to see what its about.
  17. Got my drums. Not sure if they will stay in those places yet.
  18. Sorry "SUNSHINE", is that better? I though we were looking at the obstacles. My kit arrived yesterday. A winters day here is about twice as hot as a sumer day there. I will rearange the course tomorrow when the drums arrive making it a bit harder. I still brand new to the sport so need to practise and perfect the easy stuff, I was just curious as to what to expect. Anyway, thanks.
  19. Im confused now. Do the standards differ from country to country? Ive watched some vids of clubman trials in south africa and the obstacles seem very tame in comparison to a open top tractor tire. Am I wrong or am I in for a surprise?
  20. This is the course ive laid out. All the obstacles are quite close together with sharp turns. Any sugestions on my layout or improvements I can make to the course? Sorry about all the questions, I just have no clue what to expect. I live in the middle of the bush and am about 3 hours away from the closest venue. The first trials I ever see in the flesh will be the one ive entered. I am getting 4 oil drums tomorrow, any ideas on how I should set them up on my course?
  21. So you recom im progressing well? One thing I havent practiced is cambered turns. Here are my two main obstacles. Could I expect bigger obstacles in a clubman class?
  22. Hi guys In the clubmans class, what skills are required and what sort of obstacles could I expect? Im trying to practice a little every day. At the moment, I can do locked turn figure 8s, get up and over a 50cm tractor tire and a 50cm high cement wash basin. My balance is getting better but is not fantastic (5 to 10 seconds). Anything else I should be practising? Ive only been riding for 3 weeks and my first trial is in August. Thanks in advance.
  23. Hi guys. Im 31 years old and am a game ranger in SA. Ive been riding bikes since I was 5, mx, enduro and classic gp and about 3 weeks ago I decided to learn how to ride a bike properly. I swopped my 06 kdx200 for a 07 Beta rev 3 270. Im loving it so far and I think my other riding has helped buy I have tons to learn and look forward to good advice. My pops just bought a factory beta 300 2013 model, he has the bucks , I dont . This will be the first bike category where we compete together. Anyway, hi to all.
