  1. Thanks mr N, ill keep practicing. Had a fairly good afternoon in the office today. Just need a leopard now for my current guests. Got my boys oset, its with my folks in the big city so hell only see it next weekend when I go down for my first trial.
  2. Hi zippy. Thanks. Must be my tire, its very old. The rest of what you said is what im doing unless im on the gas too much and not soft enough with the clutch. Frt is 6psi, rear is 4psi.
  3. Advice needed please... Im battling to get traction on my front wheel when doing full lock turns on soft ground. My front wheel drifts or slips causing the bike to move forward instead of turn. Im expecting the bike to turn but it drifts and I loose balance. What am I doing wrong? Ps: today I left my obstacles and did the boring groundwork stuff, my weaker point, but I guess it just has to be done.
  4. All the advice makes sense, now its getting the coordination to communicate with my brain. With the 3 smaller logs, I change the spacing and angle of them all the time to vary that part of the obstacle. I usually have the first 2 a wheel width apart then the 3rd one a bike length from the 2nd. I try float over the first 2 then as I clear that the 3rd is right against my front tire, then I do the hop frt hop back over.
  5. Meat is meat and a man must eat I disagree with trophy hunting but accidentaly got into the books. I hunt for food. Back to the bikes, man.....that tire is hard without a kicker. Lots more practice to come. My boyz oset arrived at my folks. Cant wait to show my son.
  6. Nope. That part I do in my spare time. I take photographers out. Oh yes, I dont use a scope, im a handgun hunter. Open sights for me
  7. @ billyt: yip, im a field guide. They pay me to look for dangerous animals all day long
  8. Hi copemech. I had a short ride now but quit before I hurt myself or my bike. I rode like such a dork and made tons of dumb mistakes I usually don't make. I just wasn't feeling it today. The diagram doesn't do my course justice. Most of my obstacles dont have a run up or at least a very short one. My bigger obstacles have a bit more of a run up until I can handle them better. Oh well. Bad days riding but ill try again tomorrow. PS: I did get up my tire without a kicker, but not on the first few attempts. Getting the hang of it now.

    Wheel Bearings

Use a close fitting socket/piece of pipe trough the centre of the bearing, then gently tap and drift the centre tube (in the hub) untill it starts to push the opposite bearing out. Bearing only needs to move a few mm to free the centre tube. Then you can get a screw driver or drift punch in their and drift bearing out normally. It is a fiddly job but works. When you have the bearing out, for next time..........cut a slot/notch out of one side of the centre tube. Then next time you just drift the notch side bearing out and then the other side.
  10. Hi jimmie. Thanks for the words of advice. I will be competing in my very first trial on the 11 aug with my pops. Cant wait. After that ill have a better idea what to expect and redisign my course from there. Im hopefully going to be buying this oset for my son today. My boy is 2y2m old but im sure hell handle it. He can ride his 50cc quad but im a quad hater so we gotta lose 2 wheels. He loves bike. Only problem is the bike is almost 1000km away so ive gotta seeif I can afford the courier costs. Wish me luck
  11. Thanks for the tips. @billyt: I know what you mean but my trainng spot is in a fenced off staff village. Outside the fence are things thatcan eat me, I live smack bang in the middle of a game reserve. I see lion, leopard, hyena, elephant etc on a daily basis around our sstaff village. I wish I could take the chance but its far to dangerous.
  12. Well this is my training spot with the new tyre. I drew out the route that I do, any constructive input to my route or anything I should add or change?
  13. Guess im one of those new guys . Been riding bmx since 3years, mx since 5 and trials since May . Here I thought I could do a japzap cause youtube said thats what it was, guess not. Better learn that next. Havent broken my bike yet but have torn ligaments in my ankle and sprained my wrist.....but......im having a hell of a lot of fun!
  14. What are the other techniques used to get up obstacles. I thought the zap was the only one apart from a splat to get up bigger/verticle obstacles.
  15. Im by no means good, but I started on a log that was just tall enough to hit the bashplate if I bugger it up. Then went onto a drum then bigger tyres. Its quite easy and the main thing is getting your timing right. I dont even know how many times ive watched that same vid, its a great help.
  16. My first ever new bike was a kdx200. I financed it for 5 years and loved it almost as much as my wife and son. The engine did get stained and it wasnt due to the lack of care and maintenance. I traded it blind for a 07 rev 3 that has taken a bunch of neatening up to get it to where im satisfied. What year bike is the one you are interested in? If it is old and has issues, it might cost you some money. If its a newish model and has the normal rev issues, it might be worth it. You sound as if you know a thing or two by the way you write, so dont be too nervous. Luckily bikes are easy to work on, most of the time. How about a price and year, then lets take it from there.
  17. Yaaay. Got up my big tyre. Been poo@ping myself the whole day about attempting it and it was far easier than I thought. I am using a kicker for now untill I get the hang of it, its quite different to the drums ive been riding over. VERY happy with myself. The SA beta importer (70 years young and still beats the youngsters) gave me some good advice im trying to stick to...."dont think about it too much, just do it, the worst that can happen is you fall over". Not sure about the last part but ill pretend thats it. Pat on the back
  18. Yip, its pretty heavy. It comes up to just below my waist. We got it off my pickup but now I dont have the man power to move it.
  19. I started junior mx at the age or 5years and my pops taught me to call it foot-ups. I like the term although I hardly see it used. I use it to this day.
  20. Good to hear.my pops refuses to put atf in his 13evo300, and I respect his and everyones decision. Im a open minded bloke and am willing to look outside the box. Some pros advice spurs me along. Worth a try. At worst, ill learn a leason.
  21. Got my new obstacle today. Should keep me busy for a while. Gonna need a bigger pickup soon
  22. I can do one but choose not to due to my country. I would get arrested.
  23. Hi billyt It was your post and dans that I studdied before doing the clutch mod and changing over to atf. I did it all at once so im not sure what had the biggest effect but my clutch is now very much smoother. Bruce le riche convinced me to go onto atf as he uses it and I can actually get it regularly where I live.
  24. I apologise, I have used it (the zap version) that I got from the youtube vid. Sorry, didnt mean to offend anyone.
  25. Use small water bottles or soda bottles filled with sand or water and spraypaint whatever colour you want.
