  1. Ive been thinking about it but no ideas yet.
  2. Not sure why its rotating the pic. Not too shabby, I think.
  3. Im not sure if im the first to think of this but heres my super cheap, super easy fork lower guards. 50mm pvc pipe, cut to length, cut out a strip down the length (about 20mm wide), snap on. Done.
  4. A place called Magaliesburg, the super duper trials spot in the part of sa that I live in. Its apparently the best spot in our parts. Rivers etc. From what ive been doing prior to trials, it should be heaven. Im expecting to battle a bunch but I just look forward to the terain. Getting bored with my training spot after seeing it every day. Need to rearrange my obstacles I guess. Ps: boots are polished to their best.
  5. Well today I decided to skip training and rather prep for my trial on sunday (my first REAL trials event in a great location). I didnt want to risk breaking me or my bike before the event. Today I washed the bike good and proper, cheched all the bolts and bits that come loose, cleaned the airfilter AGAIN and sorted out my spares, fluids and tools. Also washed my helmet lining, gloves and other bits of kit. My sexy Beta pants are clean and ready for action. Saturday, ill be replacing inline fuel filter, putting on a new chain and checking the float bowl and jets are clean.......then.......ill be ready........oh yes, polishing my hand me down novagar boots tonight. Yes, im a bit anal with the prep but it leaves me with no excuse when I ride like a plonker.....then I must just train harder if I do. Cant wait, getting super excited.
  6. @ zippy......just for sh@ts and giggles Whats the best chirp you have for this one????? (Took the pic this morning, the cubic capacity still amazes me)
  7. The Beta importer in SA turned 69 this year, Graham Harris. My pops is riding his 13 evo semi factory as he moved onto a full house factory 2013. Graham introduced me and my pops to modern trials and gave us a basic lesson. Ive seen him ride (intermediate) in the flesh and he is unbelievable. Proof that technique beats all else.
  8. I have watched most vids of trials on youtube but this is by far my favourite. Norther Region Trials Club.....NRTC.....The club I joined and the boyz I am hoping to "compete" with one day. Sound track is: AWOL NATION, SAIL. I listen to the song every day on my way to work and visualize the event. No Toni Bou stuff, just regular guys putting in the time.....I LOVE this one.
  9. My spelling is up to sh@t tonight, too many hops I guess
  10. Thanks bud. My phone allows me to slo mo my vids an I cant even tell you how many times ive watched my own vids in slomo. I chech my own techniques and go from there. I have noticed that on my japzaps, I load the suspension plenty on the first bouce and not enough on the second. Thats why im battling getting enough hight out of the back wheel. Problem is, I can see what in doing wrong and understand it but actually doing it is another story.
  11. Thats almost impossible to answer. Iv been on trials for just over 4 months. Ive been on bikes since I was 5. As you have read, I ride between 1 and 2 hours every day. By the end of the year, I would have competed in 4 events. Thats my basic plan for the next few months. Im working my @ss off to be able to move into intermediates next year when I renew my club fees and competition license. Currently, im wondering if I will be ready but im desperate to climb the ladder and learn and get the opportunity to ride the fun lines. I would like to be competent enough to go through a funky section instead of having to do the boring line. I would rather fail at fun/challenging sections than master easy ones. Keep in mind im a beginner myself. Vids of your progress will be easier to give you advice. So how about some vids
  12. Clean air filter first as said above and keep it clean. What plug, gas/oil ratio and what 2stroke oil are you using? FYI: if your airfilter is dirty, your engine cant suck through enough air and will compensate by trying to suck more gas out of your carb, causing it to run rich. Too much oil will also run rich and fowl plugs. Cr@py oil will also burn bad and fowl the plug. I clean my filter every second ride (I ride abour 2 hour every day). I use Belray H1R oil at a 60:1 ratio (150ml to 10l gas). Plug im using is a NGK BP6ES (this will vary according to location and temp).
  13. Your bike is running waaay too rich and is fowling the plug.
  14. Lol.....zippy, you are one sharp dude Back to trials: I am soooo looking forward to sundays trial in Magaliesburg. I have put in the peg time and trained fairly hard since my first and feel that ive made some progress. I can turn a bit tighter, balance a bit longer and generally feel a bit more comfortable on the bike. Realistically, im not expecting to win my class, but I am hoping to place a little higher on the grid. Guess time will tell if ive been practicing the right stuff. Today and tomorrow im just gonna practice the basics then friday and saturday will be travelling (800km round trip just to ride in the event )and making sure my bikes in tip top condition for sunday.
  15. Zippy, right you are.....she is a she......how did you know? Fact: females have a smaller head, 90 degree angle from top of head down to trunk, weigh 3500kgs, have tits between the front legs (not like a cow at the back, at the front like a wife ) and have a attitude similar to satan. Boy elephant: huge head, 27 kg penis when fully erect, 5-6000 kg, very chilled unless they in must (ie: extra boost of testosterone uesefull for...........skrew it........they are horney). Yip I get paid to tell people irrelevant stuff like that.
  16. Funny you mention this. I am guiding a honeymoon couple on safari who broke ribs on his wedding night ( wonder how) and he was told the same. Im not a doctor but from a mechanical point of view, surely if you take deap breaths while th bones are trying to heal wil prolong the recovery? Kinda like the doc saying run with a broken leg so it heals with the right action. Dont docs try to keep broken bits as still as possible, ie plaster casts on limbs??? Any docs with the real info we looking for?
  17. Here you go betaboy. I spend most of my time on the bigger logs, the tires and the drums. Dont do what I did, start doing flat ground stuff, fig 8s, balancing and little weelies. The rest will come with practice. I neglected and still do, the basics but when you enter your first trial, you will soon learn that you practiced all the wrong things for your class. Basics first. If you can, put up a vid of yourself riding so the more experienced guys can see what level you ride at. Itll help them to see were you need advice. Thats what im doing and im getting great pointers from these guys.

  19. I got a few more obstacles but im having issues keeping them still, any advice?
  20. Bwaaahahahaha. Bet you have a hole in that font pocket too.
  21. On the other hand, my very first new bike I recieved........I was told about this running it in nonsense. .......now having to ride like a twurp on purpose is painfull.
  22. Betaboy: a new thread was started recently with advice on training in a small garden. Have a look. Itll help you, even doing fig 8s. Even the big boys still do them. Apparently a obnoxious user named Zippy does figure 69s blindfolded with his clutch hand in the back pocket of his shorts
  23. About the one man sport: I started racing juniour mx at age 5 and rode against and went to school with Grant Lagngston. My pops could not support my hobby financially at the time and it kinda came to a holt. Grant and another guy named Toni katino kicked my butt big time and the time came when we realized that a level had been met and a bit more skill and allot more finances were needed to compete. After starting trials, I quickly realised, its far more technique than finances hence my interest in the sport. I scrape by at the end of the month buy I have regained that healthy competitive spirit.
  24. Betaboy: hi, how you liking the 2011 290? That bike is my plan for next year when I get some tom together. My plan is to learn on my current 07 then get into the current decade and try creep forward to a todays bike. I never thought I would gain the enthusiasm at the age of 31 that I had at the age of 5. This trials thing is awesome and can be done as a one man sport. Im loving it. Mr N, here is my balancing act that ive set up. I had some shockers to the bash plate a fewr times today but this vid is cut and shows what im hoping to do each time.
