  1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTSd4MbzoGc&feature=youtube_gdata_player Hey bud, this is the move that alot of us are striving to perfect. ....the japzap. This is one of the best vids showing how its done right. With your splat attempt, try place a small kicker rock just before the ledge, that should lauch your rear tire up and into the ledge. I havent even tried a splat.....im stil working on the japzap.
  2. Hi guys Had a good solid 2 hour ride today. Finally got the suspension dialed in. What i did is: Front - compression..........10 turns in from full out - damping.................24 clicks out from full in Rear - compression...........turned adjuster ring (top one) 1cm up from middle of threaded section - damping..................one full turn in from full out The bike now hops like a pogo stick and still has enough damping to keep traction......or is at least 100 times better than it was. I felt the suspension was too soft for me and i wasnt getting enough rebound off the rear shock and since i figure that the bike is set up for lighter riders, i decided to get a bit more spring out of it. I am 6 ft tall and weigh 86kg for what its worth. I also played with the mapping on my big tire and i certainly get up easier and more reliably with the hard mapping, so i refitted the fast action throttle that my pops removed but will only get to test it out tomorrow. I might also refit the 10t front sprocket. Overall a great day on the bike
  3. What is PU sealer? I always hear of funky stuff on forums but stuff differs from continent to continent. I try to look for a south African equivalent but sometimes I can't find one.....or am I missing a simple abbreviation?
  4. I was planning on going easy on the buggered elbow but this bike is too much fun for my common sense
  5. Had a gooood potjie on the fire that I was responsible for . Copious amounts of beer is a necessity to getting it just right . My poitjie was good and im on the coffee now.
  6. ttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNq3QhrLExM&feature=youtube_gdata_player @ Tomcha ...will get back to you....a few cold ones under the belt tonight. Had a play on the 300 today and promised myself I would go easy on the elbow but I just could not resist.
  7. Well this is what it looks like now after it dries. Will update how well it works.
  8. Hi guys When my pops was riding the 13evo300 he kept saying the rear xlight keeps going flat. Now that im on the bike and have a bit more time than pops I pumped the tire up to 2 bar and sprayed soapy water on it to look for the leak. It turned out to be leaking from a smallish side wall cut, veeeery slowly. Due to the cost of a new one, i was keen to try fix the cut. Luckily a bright spark I work with came up with a good idea. Good enough to share. 1- find a old car tire and using a angle grinder with a sanding disk, grind the tire down and collect the fine rubber powder. This will be your binder. 2- somehow hold the cut open. I placed the rear tire/bike on a rock with the valve out. This forced the cut open and also compresses the tire while the gum dries. When its dry and the rock or whatever is removed the cut will close and compress the dried gum but will still allow for some flex. 3- mix the rubber dust with normal patch solution untill it looks like a black booger after a dusty trial. 4- use a screw driver or your figer to get this stuff as deap as possible into the cut. 5- leave to dry for 24 hours just to be sure. Now the good part.........ive done it but not sure if it works . It dries like super strong flexible rubber so im convinced it will work. Will inflate tomorrow and let you know. NOTE: this will/should only work with a very slow leak. If it doesnt, the rear is getting that slime stuff.
  9. Now that is sexy.........and the bicycle looks good too
  10. Done a few things since my elbow is buggered. Put a grab strap on the back of the evo. The 13 evo has no where decent to grab if youre in a bad position and need to move the back wheel if you are stuck in the rocks. Installed my super cheap fork guards. Re arranged my training spot to practice tight turns with obstacles. Plan is ti ride as tight as possible to the drum, both ways.
  11. Agree with zippy here on all clothing except my super sexy beta pants and trials gear. I polish my boots often and pay someone to hand wash my sexy pants **** and gloves. Helmet and boots, I do myself. Im a bit anal with that stuff. My grandpa once said, if you can look your best to go to church, you dam well better look your best to go to the races.
  12. Thanks guys. Elbow is still killing me but being off the bike is killing me even more. Would a anti inflammatory help, dicoflaf or cataflam help speed things up? Im on the 13 beta now and dying to train. Next trial is on the 10th November. Come hell or high water im riding it but need a bit of peg time before. ?? Pls dont tell me to miss the trial and stay off the bike for that long or longer, I promise it wont happen. Meds, should I use and/or anything thats recommended?
  13. Since I have began riding trials I have developed a issue with my right elbow. It is incredibly painful off the bike and even more so on the bike. It only seemed to become a issue when I started practicing how to hop both front and back. It feels like its just under my not so funny bone on the right side. Anyone with similar issues or input??
  14. Haha. Drop both a bit more. It makes things alot easier.
  15. Ive just started riding a 13 evo 300 and as dan says, it does take a bit more effort, compared to my 07 rev 270. However, our south african beta importer is 69 years yound and rides a 13 evo 300 factory in intermediates. And hes far from the bottom of the pack. What he, and most seem to do is stand up on the kick start, right leg off ground, and drop his whole body weight down on the starter. The 13 does take more of a kick but the bike does start on the first kick almost all of the time.
  16. Some amateur advice If its a shortish slope on a slight uphill, try get your momentum up before the slope, then coast it. If its on a slight downhill, also try coast it. Your front will only slip downhill if you are give too much front brake or if your weight is on the up side of the bank. If your body position is right and you avoid the front brake, you wont slip. Likewise, the back will only slip if too much rear brake is used or too much throttle, and if your body position is wrong of course. Hence my tactic....use throttle before and not during a camberd slope, using the right amount of momentum will eliminate screwing up via throttle or brake, front or back. This only works on short sections. Longer sections, use a higher gear than you think you need and be very gentle and smooth on all controls. If that makes sense
  17. Hi guys Ive just finished my 3rd trial at a place called Olifants. Had a awesome time and learnt a bunch. I came 6th in clubmans which is my best so far. Im slowly creeping up the ladder. Was hoping for top 5 but missed it by one point. I took my first little tumble that cost me a 5er otherwise I would have made it. More reason to try harder I guess. I rode my dads 13 EVO300 today after a quick 2 hours yesterday to get used to it. Man, what a machine!!! Its a handful compared to my REV3. I love the immediate response but didn't have time to play with the suspension. Currently my REV is set up a bit better, I think but I feel I rode better on the EVO. I felt a bit more confident but scared at the same time. Awesome bike though. Heres a few pics from today. Cheers guys
  18. Hey bruno. I like 5psi front and 4psi rear. Used to have 6 in the front but find I balance better with 5. I also ran 3 in the rear but was told by the good guys here to run 4 because of all our rock. I felt the change in the front but not in the rear. Remember the vids
  19. For the cost of a bit of fuel, just drain it. Better yet, ride the old tank out and fill up with the new stuff. You wont brake your bike.
  20. Hey, great to see a vid up. Good job and keep them coming. You have some cool spots there to play on and advance on. If I may give some of my complete novice advice, play like you are doing for a bit and get a feel for the bike......then when you are feeling more comfortable......slow it all down just a bit. Try balance just before and close to a obstacle, then try go over it as slow and controlled as possible. Thats what will teach you propper cluth brake throttle control. You are going to be amazed at how fast you progress now. Glad youre up and running, eventually . Look forward to more vids. Ill try update my thread this evening. Cheers
  21. Thats a bugger. My pops did exactly the same at his first trial, infront of everyone. A good habbit to get into is select 2nd or 3rd gear, pull in clutch and rock the bike forward and back. This will release the clutch and is only necessary when the bike is cold (first start up). Your training spot is looking good so far, nice job. Looks easy to rearrange when you get bored. Im back on the bike tomorrow. Have my 3rd trial this sunday. Cant wait.
  22. Hi bruno. Read through the pinned thread in the beta section on the rev 3 carb....it might be able to give you some ideas on how to set the tang up. In your pics, it looks like your floats are moving too much between open and close. Mine only move about 2/3mm. Trials carbs are quite finicky to fuel level because of the angle that the bikes sit motionless at........apparently. I dont know the evo300 carb at all but ill try ask our local beta guru here what could be the issue. Keep in mind the bikes are set up rich from the factory andthe jets will often need to be changed to suit your climate and altitude. Are you sure your clutch isnt slipping? Ie: you go down hill, brake, clutch doesnt disengage 100% and engine stalls??? Will try find some info for you this side of the world. Dont give up just yet.
  23. Haha reread it now. The porn will do, forget the pics
  24. My rev3 did all of the above. I set the float high according to dan williams recommendation and it was all sorted. Im not sure what the float hight should be on a 13 evo though. My bike was a mess when I got it. Float tang was upside down, rear brake disk was on the wrong way arround and all the bearings were dry as a nun. I would expect a new bike to be sorted.
  25. Please take some pics and vids. I enjoy watching the progress thing. I just dont want to see you hopping on the back wheel on your first day
