Hi guys
My 13 Evo 300 has a very minor leak out the base gasket. On the back left side (if you sitting on the bike) the gasket is noticeably moist.
Am I going to run into issues if I leave it?
What would the fluid be, atf/coolant?
Ps: all bolts are tight.
-
Ok, hope its just that.
Next thing, while fussing over the bike getting all worried, I noticed that the oil is a greyish colour, still reddish but a grey red if you understand, not milky or sign of coolant. The coolant level is still fine. Im running Dex6 Atf and I have been ridding quite a lot and fairly hard (to my novice standard). Last oil change was about 2-3 months ago. Ive been told by the local boys that all use this Dex 6, that it should last about 6months. I do ride more often than them, is my oil just old and due for a change or could this be linked to the smoking? I do hink the smoking is oil in the pipe though, that makes sense.
Thanks for the replies.

Hi guys
Some days my 13 Evo 300 seems to smoke more (white smoke out the pipe). I noticed it after a 4km ride back from a training spot. When I killed the engine, white smoke was still coming out the pipe.
Anyway, did some training today and its still smoking a bit. Obviously im now conscious of it and took for it. Its not allot but ive never noticed it before.
Im running bellray h1r @ 66:1 (ratio that everyone runs here). Ive checked the plug and its dry and a fraction darker than perfect.
Anything to worry about or am I just being paranoid?

Well, touch wood......after dumping the other half of the slime in the front and 2x good solid rides yesterday morning and afternoon. .......I still have air in the tires, as well as a few thorns. Im gonna leave the thorns in cause everytime I pull one out it goes flat. Lets see if this theory works

Hi guys
I know its a Oset but its condition bugged me from the start, it was very scruffy. I held off for a while to let him ride a bit but then I just could not resist. For very little money and a bit of my time, it got a cosmetic overhaul. All I had to buy was a few spray cans and im having some Oset stickers made.
Kinda looks like a classic Montesa hey?
So what diy pimping have you guys done (not bolt on parts)? Im keen on any novel ideas/tricks that improve your bike, whether its functional or just for looks.

Had a play in my new spot today. I learnt how to find better traction on wet rocks.
I tried everything in second gear and I just could not clear a certain spot untill I tried it in third and was extra careful on the clutch.....wam bam thanks maam.....cleared it every time after that.
Gonna go play again later.

Im battling with exactly the same thing but have got it right a few times. Im probably wrong but what I found helps to hold the front up is to focus on getting the rear high enough, and then holding preasure. If I try to hold preasure and the rear impacts too low (on the vert side of the obstacle) , my front always drops. If I hold more preasure, the back would probably track over nicer keeping the front up.
Try focus on rear wheel hight in a zap first. You will "feel" when you start getting the right amount of hight.
Saying that, I hardly practice the japzap anymore as other basics are what costs me points and I dont need to zapbig obstacles in events......even though its fun and looks cool when it comes together.

Unfortunately the etrex doesnt come with maps, it does show main roads etc but not topography.
What I did is copy satellite images off google earth and overlay them onto the existing map. I only did the areas I hunt ride etc. Satellite images are cool if you looking for rock areas or rivers.

I know Rustoleum (spelling ?) Have a plastic aerosol spay for outside furnature but its only available in certain colours. You might also want to ask the guys at your local habby shop. Most rc cars/boats etc have plastic shells. When I raced cars, we used to use a aerosol made by Tamiya.....available in every colour under the sun. You get two types though, one to spray on the inside of clear shells and a normal external spray. Hop this helps a bit.

What I use. Spelt Gizzmovest.

Hi guys.....just wish I could ride like the guys on youtube and enjoy it .....still do in my own ungraceful way
-
Ive never had to so far......but on. Slimes website it also says its water soluble and washes away. No first hand experience though.

Whats the water trick if I may ask?

Here are some of my new spots, riding distance from my house (about 3kms).....also the spots that are giving me headaches with flats. Pretty cool area though even if I still have to look out for hippo
-
Thats the exact stuff im using. Im going to dump the other half of the bottle in the front and see if it works........if not......im gonna right the tube off and try a bridgestone ultra heavy duty tube.
-
I use the Garmin etrex30 for hiking, biking etc. Ive had to use it to get down a mountain in thick fog. Works for me.
If you get one, also try get a gizmovest for it......adds tons of protection.
Keep in mind, touch screens dont like gloves.....the reason I got the etrex.....easy to navigate with the joystick.

Im running 6 in the front at the moment. Out here in South Africa......there are TONS of thorns everywhere.

Hi guys
Ive found some cool spots riding distance from my house but in the 2 times ive ridden there, ive picked up a flat front tire both times......!
I have slime in the rear and thats fine but I know slime hardly ever seals a tubed tire. What are my options? Ive read about Bridgestone ultra heavy duty tubes and also thought of doing a double tube.
Any input appreciated.
Cheers

Hi Jimmie. Unfortunately yes I do need eyes at the back of my head in this spot. My buddy normally keeps watch for me and is armed with a 44mag just in case.
-
Hi guys. My last trial was a bit of a disaster but I did learn that I need to start riding more natural terain. Ive found a pretty cool spot close to work so ill see if it helps.
-
Same advice from me even though ive only been on trials for 6 months. 5 months on a 07 rev 270 and only due to a good deal, im now on a 13 evo 300. Im loving the evo and feel its a more predictable bike. The evo does require a bit more effort to start but both the rev and the evo start on the first kick. I was told by our importer, if a looked after beta wont start in 3 kicks, something is wrong.

Hi guys
Well finished my 4th trial this last sunday.....barely. we were told it was going to be a easy event so my pops entered with me. That was short lived as we came up to section 1. It was one of those WTF moments. A 70/80 m viscous rock climb. Anyway, long story short, 2nd gear bombing it up this mountain and the bike dies on me half way up......game over. Got the bike started and completed the lap just. Changed plug before second lap so bike ran well but by that stage it was all over. Performed a spectacular superman rock biter down a rock face on lap 2 and it went downhill from there. I was just not on form no matter how hard I tried that day. I 5ed easy sections I should have cleaned. Anyway I placed 8th out of 16, allot better than I expected or deserved. A guy I normally beat by 2 or 3 positions placed 3rd. I was just not with it.
O well, enough moaning from me.....what I would like to ask is how often do you guys change your plugs? Obviously if you wait for it to fail, itll probably happen at the worst possible time, skrewing up your whole day

If it makes you feel more confident go for it. I find it too hot and restricting.
This guy wears full armour all the time. No one thinks anything of it. Its what makes you feel better.

Having some shirts made to go with my sexy beta pants

I think you will be surprised by the B route, I think you might find it harder than you think. I ride about 3 or 4 times a week, for the last 6 months and my 4th event is this sunday. I ride clubman level (our easiest) and im just aproaching the top 5 out of about 20 riders. I have decided to stay in clubmans for 2014 until im consistently in the top 3.
As the guys say, go out to enjoy it, ride the easy route and then guage where you want to go from there. Main thing is have fun and dont get in over your head to start with.
