  1. Hi guys I decided to add a bit more white to my 13 EVo. Found a cool plastic spray by rustoleum. Available in a bunch of colours. Peeled stickers off. Wiped plastics with thinners and sprayed. Used a STRONG double sided tape to reapply the stickers. Seems pretty durable. Chuffed so far.
  2. Well im a bit surprised. ........I rode VERY well this weekend. I managed a 3rd place for nationals day 1 and took 1st for day 2. I am absolutely buggered today but my shoulder held up pretty good. We rode 48 sections per day and time was 6hrs plus 30 min penalty time. I finished both days with less than 30 minutes spare. It was a tough one but it was one of the most enjoyable weekends I have ever had. My bike does need some serious TLC after this one.
  3. Hi guys. A quick update......im still here and as enthusiastic as ever......just havent been training as much. Im battling with my left shoulder and am hoping to be sliced and diced in June /July to sort it out. I am competing in my biggest event this weekend though (biggest since I was 7 or 8 years old). A 2 day, national event in some seriously tough terrain. Im nervous but will keep you posted. Wish me luck
  4. Thanks Mr N. Nice to see you still following Already started mentally preparing myself for the 26/27 of this month........a NO JOKE, two day national trial where SERIOUS endurance will be the key to a good result. Cannot wait but I am pooping myself though.
  5. Somehow, I managed to pull off another 1st. Time to move up a class I think.
  6. Well im off tomorrow to ride my second regional event for the year. Lets hope the lack of training for the last month doesnt hurt my score too much. Wish me luck.....ill update tomorrow evening.
  7. Hi guys. Trials has taken a bit of a back seat as my left shoulder is well and truly stuffed. I have two serious events this month, a regional this weekend and a two day national at the end of the month. Ive done no training at all as im trying to save my shoulder. Hope it goes well but I think the lack of training might show. I have been busy in my humble workshop though.....im building a watercooled goped just for the hell of it. Donar parts are from a pocket bike.
  8. Well even though my sunday trial was cancelled, about 16 of us met up for some training. Had a awesome ride and learnt a bunch from the other guys. We rode intermediate lines and I was surprised how well I did. Got a few cleans and tried a bunch of obstacles I would have never attempted if I was riding by myself. Thanks NRTC boys for letting me tag along.
  9. Granted....I/my bike was not that dirty however I would have loved to see all you traction experts riding in the hole I was in. I guess it is one of those.....you would have had to have been there moments. Im not scared of mud at all and im putting in the time, and for me to give up in 10minutes is not my style. Sliding down a gentle slope backwards, forwards, sideways and upside down was not my idea of fun. If I cannot ride my bike for a meter, im not learning anything under those circumstances.

    Skimming Head.

If you are not certain that the head is out of shape, replace the radiator cap (they are preasure rated). Had the exact same issue on a pocket bike and a new radiator cap solved the issue.

    Skimming Head.

I has and can be done but thats as far as I know. Sorry. Read about it hear and there and I seem to remember that the head gasket thickness needs to be increased to compensate for the skimming. I read about it when I was on enduro bikes, not sure if it relates to trials bikes. Also, when I messed around with scalemoto/pocketbikes, guys used to skim the head to boost compression.
  12. Sorry I misread. Recheck your main jet. Also make sure your new cable is the same length and that your slide is opening all the way. A few mm of extra length will not le the bike rev out clean. Check throttle adjustment.
  13. No it wont be your jets. As above, make sure your slide/needle is assembled corectly. If thats not it, I would first change the pulg (cheap enough and eliminates that part) then check that you didnt create any air leaks removing and installing carb. You might also want to recheck that your pilot jet is clean and clear. Carb cleaner can blast gunk into places it shouldnt be. Im presuming you removed the jets to clean them properly or did you do the blast and hope its sorted stunt?
  14. Our sunday trial has been cancelled and we are having flood warnings.
  15. Pretty much what i do with the Q20. Q20 is our common, easily available water displacing, general purpose aerosol lube.....very similar to WD40. WD40 is not as easily available here in SA as Q20 holds the market here. Im also a fan of lube often and keep chain clean inbetween.
  16. On my bike I use Q20 and nothing else. I spray before each training session and at each refuel during a event. When I clean my bike with prepsol, the chain comes out spotless and gets another Q20 dose. I prefer a lite oil often. Cleans off easily and doesnt build up gunk/grinding paste like chain wax or some of that other glue nonsense in a can. Lube often and clean bike often. Would not do this on a mx or enduro bike, due to high speed, lite oil would get flung off too fast. For a trials bike, I feel its fine and my chain is always lubed and easily cleaned. Easy to maintain.
  17. This was one of those situations where I even doubt Mr Bou would have got any square inch of his tires to bite. I tried every gear, was gentle on the clutch, tried various amounts of throttle, played around with weight distribution. ......all to absolutely no avail. It was just too wet.
  18. Well that was a bad idea......guess it was a little too wet. No matter what i tried.....traction did not exist.
  19. Hi guys I would like to know how often you boyz train according to the weather? The sun shines here most of the time but its been raining for the last 2 days so I figured ill use the wearher to vary my training and learn a bit more about finding traction. Ill be up at 4am to load up and take advantage of this rubbish weather as the rain seems to stop by late morning. So, if any, how often or important do you think training in cr@ppy weather is necessary?
  20. I havent tried or ever worn proper trials gloves but have worn many MX and eduro gloves. I recently bought some EVS Luchadors and love them to bits. Cheapish compared to other topnotch enduro gloves but super soft and every bit of "feel" you could get from a pair of gloves. Very comfy and no complaits whats so ever.
  21. Dan : anyone tell you how smart you are ? Our club has realised this issue this year. I started trials in may last year and only stuck to it because i was born with a seriously competitive nature. I set goals for myself and reached them very slowly. Last year, every trial I thoroughly enjoyed but I was left feeling like all my practice (and lots of it) was not getting me anywhere. I felt frustrated and trained harder. Next trial, same thing. All the big boys were finishing with good scores and mine/clubbies were way into the double sometimes tripple digits. I climbed the ranks point wise but the points and how I battled still bugged me. This year it was decided by our club to make clubmans a true entry level class. We all still ride at the same skill level but on easier sections and get better scores. Its a mental thing. We still finish in the same positions but with a better score and more confidence. ...all fired up for the next event. I got a first in my last event and have tons of events lined up this year and a really tough (for me) two day national event in April. I am fired up more than ever now that I feel like im riding well and progressing and my score is a bit more respectable. Long story short: the guys that purely ride for fun, would like to ride and enjoy, not push or lift over momentous obstacles. The guys that want to be competitive, also want to ride but not be embarrassed. We all want to feel like we "rode" well at the end of the day. For me personally, if I stay in the top 3 in clubmans for a few more events.....I will gladly move up a class to increase the my knowledge and increase the challenge. My ultimate goal in trials is to be in the top 3 of intermediates. Realistically, I dont expect to go further but I guess its always a possibility
  22. Hi Our club is pretty relaxed but if you start winning clubmans all the time, the guys will (in a friendly way) put preasure on you to move up to intermediates. There are exceptions though, a chap on a TY that rides very well and is almost always in the top 3. There is however quite a gap between club and intermediate and his machine of choice would battle to keep up with the obstacles. We run clubman, intermediate, expert, masters B and masters A.
  23. Hi cope, ive been thinking of doing the same, shoving grease inside the boot. I did spray q20 (our version of wd40) I side the boot but then had a issue with the piston sticking so have left it dry. Would grease be a better option?
  24. Was flipping through my bike pikes on my phone and came across these two of my dad and his dad a few years ago. I asked my dad for some info on the pic..... His response: That's me at age 14 riding my BSA Bantam trials bike #14 at the Marianhill trials venue just outside Pinetown. Grandad Ray built it for me out of a road bike. It was first canary yellow but we went navy blue with grey pin stripes. Helmets were not required in those days and we all wore different hats, grandad wore a black bowler hat. The sections were laid out with yellow tape and everyone rode the same course! Year 1967 I can only imagine what trials will be like in another 50 years.....should be interesting. Anyway, just thought I would share some old school pics. Dylan
  25. Ive been keeping a close eye on this goldentyre debate as our South African Beta imported has just brought in a batch, or a few months ago. He says they are great and has them fitted on his factory evo 300. He rides intermediate and is dam good even at the age of 70ish ( seriously, he kicks the pants off of the younger boyz). He has ridden forever so I asume hes been through a bunch of tyres in his life. So why are they bad? Grip, lifespan? Keen to know because at 2/3 the cost....im willing to try them next.
