  1. The chalk idea is a good one....I try balancing along a log that is about 50cm off the ground but it gets interesting when you try and dab.....feet dont reach the floor! I think 4" is too narrow to start with, go wider to start with. With the poles: I used poles about 6-8" diameter then went bigger later on. Hey mags, please understand that im also learning so my advice is not necessarily correct but worked for me. Its great that there is someone else completely obsessed with trials . Dont over clean your bike, I have that habbit too but after having to regrease the linkage, I now clean when its really dirty and clean spotless before a event. The more you wash, the more chance there is of water getting into places it shouldn't. Looking forward to training later today......cant decide what terain to ride though.....im thinking rock, my favorite.
  2. Hi jh. I watched your vid 3 times and cannot see whats going on. I was expecting to see fluid flow into the syringe but cant see it. Sure its there but I dont think the vid shows enough for us to go by. Might be a cap issue but sorry I cant offer any help otherwise.
  3. Then when you get that sorted.....take two small poles and place them about a meter apart. Lift front over first and place it between the two, then lift it over the second pole.......but know remember that when your frt goes over the second pole, your back wheel will need to come over the first pole at the same time......a excellent way to teach you how to de weight the rear and teaches you how to handle a obstacle immediately after a obstacle. Can also do this on a driveway. Also when you are riding over one pole, try get the back over without moving the pole....this will indicate that you are de weighting correctly. Use a nice round pole (gum pole) that rolls easily to show you if you are not doing it right.
  4. Hi mags Good way to practice small weelie s is to find a mark on flat ground and practice lifting the front and placing it on the mark. Try this from different distances, requiring slightly longer weelie s. This is a great way to teach you how to place the front accurately, needed for crossing bigger obstacles at a later stage. You can do this on a drive way.
  5. Thanks mags Fig 8s are under rated.....it improving my balance a HUGE amount and is also teaching me to be super gentle onthe clutch. Im now spending a good portion of my training doing fig 8 on the side of loose banks and any other un even terain. Finding traction while turning on steep incline s is still my weak point.....but im getting better. Because I ride by myself, I have to try everything a million times to see what works. I dont have anyone telling me to, lift outside elbow, shift weight slightly forward, lower centre of gravity on the climb etc. Good thing is I am learning alot of what doesnt work
  6. Hi. My personal preference is the man tights. Very comfortable and not bulky at all. I have my sexy beta pants I wear at events as they were not cheap and I want them to last. For training, I bought some mens running tights from the local sports shop. The only difference to my beta pants is the beta has thin foam knee guards. Works for me.
  7. The most important thing that ive learnt to date is, dont neglect the basics. I loose the majority of my points in silly dabs that shouldnt happen, not on the big/fun stuff. I still take the time to practice fig 8s. Nice pair hey ?
  8. NO...I personally dont. I personally run 66:1. Lets not start a huge debate. 80:1 is fine, its not that. What 2t oil are you using? Please dont say mineral?
  9. Oil change? I run dex 6 atf and after 6 months I changed it and felt a immediate difference. Nutral is almost impossible but all others are silky smooth.
  10. Start up sounds fine but your bike is running rich. Fuel/oil ratio? Oil brand? And if thats fine then its carb ie: jets, needle hight etc.
  11. If I had tar roads, I would own them on a vespa.....would love one. Back in school I rode a yamaha jog 50 for a bit, managed to fit 3 fishing rods, a beach umbrella, tackle and beers on that thing. Sure it wasnt legal but it was fun.
  12. What a awesome pic . Would you mind if I shared (facebook) the pic with some trials buddies?
  13. Thanks for the input. I weelie past balance point but then end up slaming the front down after a bit of panic and a lot of rear brake. Guess I need to practice being gentle. Can you tame a rear brake down a bit without loosing its efficiency on a steep decents or rendering it useless in trials terms, if you understand what im getting at. Or is it just a practice thing?
  14. Like the quick release seat
  15. Thanks, I forgot to add that bit in I did 2 notches on my centre tube, opposite each other but on the same end of the spacer tube. You only need notches on one side, once that sides bearing is out, other side is straight forward.
  16. Hi I know im not the one to come up with this but I couldnt find a pic of one when I needed it. Some bikes (my13 evo 300) dont have a floating spacer inside the hub. The spacer tube has a lip that makes it almost impossible to drive the opposite bearing out with a drift and hammer. Find a piece of pipe as close to your axle diameter as you can (a bit smaller is fine just not bigger). Find a raw bolt that will fit inside the pipe. Cut a few (I did 2 but 4 or 6 would be better) slots in the end of the pipe. Weld a T Handle onto the pipe. Not good at explaining but it should look like the pic or similar. To remove wheel bearing, insert tool end into bearing inner race, tighten bolt until tool grips bearing inner nice and tight, use big drift from opposite side and tap bearing out. Hope my explanation is not too crude. Cheers
  17. Hi guys Spent a few hours yesterday clearing out a new training spot at work. Lots of rock and can be VERY technical depending on the line chosen. I had a spectacular fall yesterday, @ss over t!ts, over the bars, bike cartwheeld down the rocks.....all caught on video and then the twit filming deleted it by mistake . Oh well, I guess there will be more of that to come. Ive got some great spots to ride/train and no one to share them with. Training for my long distance (800km away) nationals coming up in july. Need to find out what type of terain itll be though. Cheers
  18. Hey there mags. You would be a tosser if you didnt ask for help and your club would be a bunch of them if they didnt offer. My first event was a joke and I felt like a tosser when I was done but all that did was inspire me to work harder and get better. A year later, me and another first timer on that day, are teaming up to travel 1600km to go ride nationals together. Trials is a place where friendships are made and I take my hat off to you.....sounds like you are going into the sport with the right attitude. So now when is your first?

    Exhaust Leak

Heffer: I think you need a new bike, this one is full of problems! Only kidding .....I also faf too much.....ill actually stare at my bike so hard, it will develop a oil leak :0 My silence also leaks a bit, used red rtv and resembled. Still leaks but not as much. That rubber silence mount screws into the frame and the a bolt is used to secure the silencer to the mount. They brake very easily if the bike is dropped on the silencer side. I have replaced mine with one bolt and tap washers between frame and silencer. If you do this, you need to turn a recess into the bolt under the tap washers so that it can brake when you drop it hard
  20. You are kind of right. I am able to cover the rear but im just bad at using it. I dont want to use it if its not necessary however alot of the more advanced manoeuvres require its use ie. Static, Front up against a ledge, rear on a rock.....without rear brake on....front slips down. Just a example.Im looking for a practice technique that will help me learn to use the rear precisely. Sorry, my first post was a bit unclear. I want to practice using it without learning the hard way on tougher obstacle.
  21. Hi guys I need some advice on some training ideas that will force me to use the rear brake more. I dont use it as much as i should, only on steep down hills really. Any ideas what i can do to force the use of it upon myself?
  22. Guys are right about the helmet .........you did open yourself up for a beating on that one. Apart from that, I enjoyed the vid. Some cool looking spots and some good trials riding. Blowing the cobwebs out of your motor now and again is not a bad thing
  23. Can you balance it? Even just for a short bit? Curious if its actually possible. Ive never tried.
  24. Mine does the same. Follow dans instructions. Sorted mine out.
