  1. I was battling to get traction after the 1m vertical step at the bottom. I kept spinning out, so half way up I decided to shift weight back. I found traction.....a bit more than I planned for though.
  2. Had a awesome session yesterday. Came off twice and learnt how not to do a hill climb. Also buckled down and did lots of cambered turn practice. A good solid 2.5 hour non stop session.
  3. Hi baldilocks Im friends with him on FB. His EVO is up for sale, he says trials is just not for him. He has done a few stunt shows and seems to be more focused on that. Due to a trials bike design, he says that trials bikes arent great stunters for his style of riding. I suggested that he keep the EVO and do something different with it, like kit it out for dedicated stunting ie: pogo pegs, weelie bar etc. I recon it would make a great stunter due to the power and weight, kinda like freestyle bmx on steroids. Anyway, trials is just not his thing.
  4. Thanks for the kind words Im loving this trials story......wish I tried trials years ago.
  5. Hi guys I see this thread has had quite a few views even though the replies have slowed down. Anyway thought I would update it and keep it going, ive even read it a few times to see how ive progressed. ....its quite fun. Well at the moment im feeling quite proud of myself and how ive progressed. I won my first event (clubman) and plucked up the courage to attempt a splat, which went quite well. Ive been keen to try one for a while but am still a bit scared of my EVO 300 when im using a bit more throttle. Heres a vid of my first splat (well not the absolute first, I had to experiment with the kicker a bit). For some reason it wont let me paste the link. A pic then: I have a bust rib so I gave training a miss today but plan on building(more like digging) a splat training wall tomorrow. I also need to practice some cambered turns. Heres a pic of the spot ill be playing at tomorrow. Cheers for now. Dylan
  6. Or use a drift/long rod and drift them out from the opposite side (put rod through centre of hub, catch lip of top hat spacer and drift out).
  7. I agree 100% . My problem is, im confined to my artificial spot when I have guests and in fortunate to be able to train everyday........but man I get bored riding by myself all the time. The only time I get to ride with others is at events once a month. When I get bored, my brain says....what if...? My guests check out today but I still have to be on stand by, so im gonna load up my bike and my 44mag and try do some cambered turn practice next to the river. Wish my artificial spot wasnt so flat. Anyway..thanks for the help guys, appreciate it.
  8. I think I just did my first splat ?? I messed around with a kicker and at first I almost went right over the tire. I moved it back bit by bit and varied my throttle input until the above happened. I can get it right about 90% of the time. Im I on the right track?
  9. Thanks for the input guys. Im purposely using a longer runup just to get the technique right then ill tighten things up. What should I be working on for some rear wheel hight.....more throttle, more bounce, timing? Is there anything specific that you can see im lacking? Im going to try a small kicker today and see what happens. I would love to learn how to mini splat for now and bigger splat later when I get more confidence.
  10. Thats got a nice ring to it I have all of Ryans dvds and Bous dvd and none of them explain it. Its shown many times but all that is coached is the roll up, zap and double blip in a few variants. This technique seems to be what most of the BIG boyz use, most of the time to initiate a section, especially in indoor events with big artificial obstacles. It seems to be a kind of splat without the splat, if you understand what im trying to say. Just thought it would feature in the training dvds as it seems to be used often.
  11. Hi guys I was playing on my tires today and realised that a J Zap needs a little runup to get right so I watched a vid I had of Brent le riche that I took with my phone at the last trial and analysed what he was doing. He wacked the throttle, loaded the suspension and then aggressively unweighted and dumped the clutch. Im kind of getting it right just not as graceful as Brent. It works and if I could balance like he does, I would need almost no runup. I need to lean back a bit more and try to hold preasure on the bars. Does this technique have a name? Its not a jzap or double blip, I know that much. Ps: excuse the zippy shorts and no shirt but its dam hot here at mid day. Cheers Dylan
  12. Cool, glad you enjoyed it..............awesome isnt it? Ive been on bikes for 27 years but only trials for just less than a year. Amazing how difficult it is to do simple things, almost like learning to ride all over again. I love it
  13. Hi and welcome. Try post your questions in the sherco section. Allot of guys dont bother reading this intro section. Sure you will get some answers there. Cheers Dylan
  14. My training spot as it stands now. Re arranged a few things but cell couldnt get the logs in. Looking forward to a play session but nursing a bust rib. Cant even fart in peace. Will have a go tomorrow if I get some time. BIG trial for me in august (personal score to settle, need to work on fitness). Im not too concerned with where I come but I want to finish feeling good about myself, my prep, my machine etc. Personal thing.
  15. Man... thats a good laugh..... Mine is: "are clubman suposed to go up there?"
  16. Got a few new toys today. Was given that whole pile of logs. Might take a while to transport though.
  17. Dont worry too much if you dont have the right oil. I have been using Q20 (kinda like wd40) for years. Spray it all over, scrunch it up and youre good to go. You can also use 2 stroke oil. People are bound to say how wrong i am but keep in mind that the oil is just to help the dust stick and a trials air filter should be cleaned before every ride so its not getting clogged up and is kept relatively clean.
  18. Hi, welcome. You are forgiven for wanting to weelie and look good doing it but fact is, weelies would just be for show at the moment. Try focus on turns and balance first. Full lock fig 8 s in both directions and dead slow, then do it on uneven terain. This is great training for a beginner. Dont worry, the fun stuff will improve with peg time. Im desperate to learn how to nose weelie and splat but I dont waste too much time practicing them as it wont help me in a trial just yet. Enjoy.
  19. Thanks Dan. That head clunk returned and I had to tighten everything down after the 3rd lap. Would some minor threadlock help on the main nut?
  20. Oh yes, there were 17 clubman and a great turn out of 69 riders in total.
  21. Hi guys I finally did it................I got a 1st place in a Regional clubmans event, WOOOOOOHOOOOOOO . To say im over the moon is a understatement. Ive already patted myself on the back, kissed my bike and if i was able to, i would kiss myself . YES, Im super happy. Most of you have read a bit on my "My progress" thread and have seen that i have worked quite hard for my first win and it finally paid off yesterday. It might have just been a touch of luck but for any newbies to trials, stick at it, keep it fun and you WILL be rewarded for your efforts. Im so fired up now, all i want to do is ride. Now a bit about the trial: It was a close one: half way through my second lap i met up with my competition (Riaan) and we exchanged points. I was on 4 and he was on 10. I now realised that im in the game and put my head down and immediately rode over a flag and got a 5 (thats how i roll ) bringing me to 9 points. Me and Riaan met up again at the end of the 3rd lap and exchanged points again. I had picked up another dab and so had he, leaving me in the lead by 1 point, with a lap to go. The preasure was now on, especially knowing that i still had section 1 to do that claimed a dab on each lap and i knew that Riaan had cleaned it each time. Anyway, long story short, I rode well and rewalked all the sections again and i held him off, barely. I finished with 10 points and Riaan and Dave (twinshocker veteran) got 12 points with Riaan taking 2nd due to cleans. Just want to say a quick thanks to Sean, our chairman, it was a great event and you have had some great ideas ie: 2x floating paramedics on bikes, the trophies (cause i got one ), raffle prizes to encourage the guys to stay for prize giving and a cold one, trying to get the twin shockers and us modern pogo enthusiasts together. Its looking good, I know a bunch of others are also responsible and i thank them too. Cheers guys Chat soon Dylan
  22. You got it but here in sa we dont like beer in cans (most of us) but even our bottle are easy to open.....twist offs.
  23. Well rode my first trial for 2014 yesterday and it seems like my trianing is paying off. I took 3rd place (out of 29 riders in my class) with 14 points and tied with 4th . Took 3rd due to no of cleans (32 cleans vs 29). To say im happy with the results is a understatement
  24. I know! A luxury I could never afford. A VERY collectable knife I intend to use.
  25. Or I could buy 100 swiss army knives......or a leatherman and a packet of pop corn......or a.....etc..... Its a extremely popular, very rare Randall made especially for the Military. The mass produced look is to avoid reflecting light and giving a soldiers position away. Yes a soldier could use a kitchen knife and a tin of mat black spray paint....I wouldnt. Its made to work and be the best at a specific task.....its not mad to look pretty even though I love its look.
