  1. We have a alot of technical high alpine single track around here, and I was getting sick of overheating my 250F MX machines and wrestling the rougher trails..... cost a fortune and many emails but I finally managed to obtain a 4.5 litre tank This is the first really significant loop I've attempted. Total climbing is about 7000 vertical feet. About 4 hours solid riding. first pitch the other side halfway point at this rate my KTM will last forever, hehe.
  2. TY sirs for the good advice as usual---just what I needed.
  3. Been readin all the threads about rear linkage and the bearing replacment stuff and thought I'd better grease my 06 300 now, since it has about 430K and has been in pleanty of water. What's the cleanest sequence just to grease? obvioulsy the fender and wheel are coming off.... should I a) remove shock? remove swing arm at main pivot, then disassemble the linkage? Is it possible to overgrease? TY boys

    What Is This?

only thing I know about the button is that it makes a big difference--- on single track anyway. 06 300txt at 9k. sunshine is much faster reving and will also pull you out of the 5th gear bog alot better. Cloudy is very gentle on power delivery. Feels like a different motor. You can tell right away when something has hit that switch-- a branch or something. Cloudy might be good for 1st gear section work.....
  5. thanks for taking the time to help me: got my oil and syringe and will attempt bleeding by this method. and thanks lewis for the info about the boot, which has been driving me crazy. as an aside I explored the range of a 300 pro w/ stock 2.9 litre tank last nite, hehe. here is a shot of Warm Springs Ridge, about 6 miles from Sun Valley. The high bits are close to 9k. A spectacular single track runs the length of the ridge, with a number of very technical access trails from the canyons below. We still have some logs, however. I bought a 130 dollar chainsaw and my buddy (younger) carried it in a backback on his well traveled 02 yzf250. I had the stock GG lights and a 2hr ni-mh powered HID hemut light for Jon in my camelback. We left the trailhead at 7pm. We cut our way to the top, as weather closed in, up the deep canyon of Rooks Creek to the eastern creast of the ridge, far right in pic. We traversed west in high winds and light rain, with the cloud level just over our heads. (this was tonite, same area, nice weather) our normal lunch stop We cut across (just a few logs) along the tip till we made the Castle Creek desent, It was darkening fast as we dropped in. It would be all downhill, except for a 1000ft climb to one last saddle and the final drop down Placer creek. Normally I shut off the motor and coast dowbhill to conserve fuel, but it was too dark. The last climb was about 2 miles, steep tight high alpine single track. Halfway to the top I had to go to my reserve. I was relieved to make the last series of switchbacks and make the saddle. I hoped I was home free, but half way down the motor stopped completely out of fuel. It was so dark you could not take a step. Jon followed me down as I coasted to the two track at the placer trailhead. But his light time was limited, so aways down the 2-track I sent him for the truck while he could still see himself. I huddled under a tree as my copious sweat cooled. 35 min later the flaming lights of out FJ cruiser apeared. I was back home by 2 am and our trail was clear.
  6. So I have been tring to get my 300 pro so one finger will disengage the clutch. I turned the lever plunger in, and it was good for a bit. but now you have to pull it in so far you can't go with one finger, and even then it doesn't want to idle. Here's a pic: obviously I am not adjusting it correctly-- do I need to bleed? also as you see in pic, the rubber boot is out---it WILL NOT stay in there? Am I missing something? thanks so much, uhoh7 PS well I now see the problem, hehe, fluid is empty. Can someone shoot me a link to bleeding instructions?
  7. That's what I was wondering. Since I will be riding on trails quite a bit, what are the best tactics to avoid siezing? low or higher rpm? should I use the choke on the trail at all?
  8. out with my KTM coupla days ago. Still lots of snow--- these are southern exposures

    Overheating?

I've been trail riding a bit as the snow finnally melts around here. 6-8k alt. 06 300 pro. Fan is on and off all the time. Mine did just what you described but then I changed the plug and it hasn't done it again. It also quit once after I knocked off the vent on the cap and pluged it with a stick. Pulled out the stick, let some air in the tank, and off it went. I'm often wondering "Just How Hot is it?". But the RAD never seems to loose a drop, which is more than I can say for my "enduro" bikes.
  10. thanks guys...a relief... I suspected this was the case---"they all do it" Now here is another question: on the SSDT site I was ready the "get your GG ready thing" where it says something like: "you will have to use the choke for roadwork" is this to save the motor?
  11. Forgive my ignorance... I have been riding my 06 300 pro a couple of times a week. Never had a gasgas before. It's running well here at 6000ft. I notice the gears have a sound all their own. 1-3 sound normal; 4th has a nice wrrrrrrrr, then the shift from 4th to fifth has quite a clunk even with the clutch in. Shifting at higher RPM gives a more elabaoate clunk. 5-6 both sound fine and the shift seems fine. Is this sort of normal? WHat about that clunk going into 5th. What is the best shift technique to take it easy on the transmission? I'm starting to think I should shift into 5th at as low rpm as possible. TY sirs
  12. tearing my hair out to order parts from trusty in france and have them sent to USA. Does anyone have a "french connection", someone living in france who could order parts and then ship them to USA? For a fee, of course. Thanks guys

    Gasgas

Hey Uhoh, how is the Idaho winter holding up? I'm looking for more too for both my 280 and my new 300EC which I will pick up this weekend. I'll be getting the larger Clark tank too, but I'll probably be looking for some kind of vessle to hold a couple more litres, which i can use for the 280 as well. Have you seen the 1.1 litre tanks that mount where the numberplate goes? I want a little more than that, but its one method to get another litre you wanted. http://www.trialspartsusa.com/pages/2003/for-bike.html <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I better take some pictures. I have 2 new motorcycles and we have the biggest winter since 1974 and we may top that. It's ridiculous. It's the 23rd of march, we have had no thaw and it snows every week: skiing is incredible. But the high country we crave to ride is buried!!! The good news is 1.5 hours from here it's dusty and the bugs are out. I got to ride my pro for the first time off snow. What a sweetie! SO smooth and light as a toy. Got all fired up all over again. I've seen the "plate" tanks, but most seem only to be a litre. I am wondering about range. Lets say a YZ250F will go 50 miles on 2 gallons. How far will a pro go with the stock tank? The carb is alot smaller so I would think it would go further per gallon. I know I know, it's meant for sections, but the sections I really want to ride are UP THERE. Anyway I am gaga over the thing. But I need a tank. Hope lewissport will come through. Here is the email I got back from france: hi, we sold plastique additional fuel tank (put on the hand bar) of 1 liter. also, we have aluminium fuel tank with 4.5l capacity. For the seat, we have 2 small models: you can see this on web site: www.gasgas.fr At the moment we don't sold to particular, please contact a dealer in your country. thank for your mail best regard Herv

    Gasgas

This subject is killing me. I'm looking for more than 3.5 litres. The 4.51 litre alu tank does not seem available outside france. There was even a rumor at one point of a 7 litre tank. Such a ubiquitous design at this point, you would think a tank would easy to come by. The plastic one looks awesome: just wish it was bigger.
  17. Inddor is great I wish I could see it the USA. But the Selectio process is biazarre to say the least. Couldn't they just seed four and hold a qualifier for another four slots at each event? Seems like it would make more sense and open things up a bit. I'm amazed at the paucity of coverage in general. You would think you at least could find a well written account of what happened in each event---or is there a mystry site I'm missing?
  18. the ducati looked pretty fast till he got on the gasser. I think it would take the duc 0-25mph He is a funny guy. Great find

    06 Spoke Size

getting ready to order a spoke torque wrench, but wondering the size of the spokes? Thanks boys
  20. Once they get out of the living room I'm only jealous The air filter housing can fill pretty quickly in the wet and its amazing how the mud gets in and blocks the drain in the box, I used to take my drain out did more harm than good in the winter <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You mean this thing will get dirty?
  21. I have a 06 300 pro. Is there no drain in the box?
  22. How much of a rise is that? TY for pics
  23. "Born in Ulldecona (Tarragona) on 6 April 1982, Adam first mounted a motorbike when he was just 2 years and 10 months old. The rider remembers that it was a Merlin DG1. His first GAS GAS was a 125cc model in 1993, though his connection with the firm did not begin until 1998 through the dealer
  24. Obviously alot of folks around here are lukewarm to Raga What's the story? Is it just the non-english speaking newguy thing---he's not that new anymore, hehe, or is there something specific about the guy which has annoyed some of you? Not being a smart A here, but just trying to learn cause I haven't paid much attention for a couple of decades, but am getting back into trials now
