My advice for your first trial is ask and watch other riders , keep an eye on what lines they take
You'll probably drop most marks on going the wrong way ( I still do )
And most of all have fun and enjoy
-
You can get a stadard cota for £5500
-
How much has the new montesa increased by ?
Not much by the look of it
£5500 for the 2017 makes them now look cheap
-
No just run of the mill 1050
-
Oh and you don't actually need to remove the top bracket
Just a bit too much haste with the grinder
Doh
-
Would have liked to get the top bracket welded on a bit neater but I dropped a clanger and forgot to remove the anodising
And got some porosity in it
Couldn't be bothered to grind it out and start again
But to be honest I've seen some named tanks where the welding is nothing to shout home about
-
Yes 1.2 mm , I rolled the whole top to get the basic curve , and we have got some tiny rollers at work so I just pinched the sides and bent them over
Then spent a fair while tapping it round the edges to get a nice fit for welding
It is actually a compound curve but not worth stretching because aluminium that thickness is easy to manipulate by hand
-
It's lighter than standard , looks far better than standard in my opinion
And regards fuel capacity the loss is minimal I fill up no more than anyone else and certainly less than my old 300 gas gas
And if I do a trial with any distance id put my auxiliary hebo tank on
And best of all it was free
-
Im a welder fabricator by trade so cost me nothing otherwise I wouldn't have bothered
-
Yes I have , I used 1,2 was gonna go thinner but wanted little more strength
-
New boots arrived today and I'd say it's not looking good already , waxing them to give a little more protection prior to use you can see a big difference between the two boots one has wrinkles underneath the top layer and the other is as smooth as
Will wear this pair now and see how it goes long term
But I don't think I'll be buying them again
-
What on earth are you talking about
I ask you kindly please don't post on my thread, unless it's topic related or of some use for future reference
All silly posts like that do is drag subjects off topic
Thank you
-
Yes it was to make a point , and a valid point
I repeat again because you obviously have difficulty in reading
It's not acceptable to pay a couple of hundred quid for boots that have to be sent round the world while you sit and wait ( when it's not your fault )
Like I said ive got a few pairs of boots
But there's been a time I haven't
And deffo that lots of newcomers won't have
I know it's not an issue for you because youd wear wellies
Suppose your the same type of guy that would be clogging up a&e by wearing the correct gear ( wellies ) for riding a motorcycle
Turnip !!!!
-
I'm not betting , because I think they'll probably be the same as well
No not pressure washed , I noticed they went like that during the trial
And it looks like getting them wet isn't the issue
I've had a pm Where a couple of pair have done it when dry
And it all usually seems on one boot only
If the new pair go the same I'm just gonna wear them and see what happens
Can't be doing with keep messing about with them
-
Update , received a call today
They're going to send a new pair of boots and collect my old boots to my place of work via courier
That's more like it
-
I live in Nottingham and my local trials dealer is ?Also add my local trials dealer that stocked the new alpinestars boots ?
-
To be fair yours is pretty straight forward
With mine they want to inspect before a warranty claim , only I don't live near the dealer
So it's post or 170 mile round trip just to take my boots , and alpinestars say any claim must be through a dealer and sent back to them for inspection and that's Italy
So who's kidding who here
I'm not being awkward or unreasonable
I just want my boots sorting
Without having to post them off and waiting god knows how long
-
I'm done with diplomatic nearly a week to get just a decision on where or how to send them is too long
Recently purchased a car that developed an issue , one phone call and it was in and
A relitivley expensive and complex component was removed sent away repaired and refitted in 5 days
The same time it's took to try and find out what to do with a pair of boots
What a joke
-
Regarding patience, I'm lucky that I've spare boots to use if they are away on a tour of the world ( there's been times I haven't ) not everyone's got a couple of pairs of boots
Especially folks new to the sport , what happens then
Ride in your socks ?
Or spend another couple of hundred to replace the faulty ones that you also purchased for a couple of hundred
Or maybe turn up at a trial and ask total strangers to borrow some boots
I've had numerous emails stating ,exactly
What they will and won't do
As for digging heels in , I don't think im being unreasonable by not wanting to pay shipping costs to return virtually brand new boots and wait for who knows how long to find out what they intend to do
-
To be honest I thought alpinestars would understand the situation, send me to the nearest dealer , not to absolve the supplying dealer of any responsibility but
To help me out with the quickest , cheapest , easiest solution
But nope , it's not happening
-
I don't think they are to be honest
I think it's who's gonna make the decision as to what or does the fault require replacement
In my opinion yes
The dealer has only seen the pic so can't commit without seeing and probably without consulting with his supplier , which is obviously uk distributor
It will ultimately be down to me to foot the bill to ship them back to the dealer and sit waiting for decisions to be made
-
It's not the dealer that's the problem
It's alpinestars themselves
He's still waiting for a response from the UK distributor to get back to him
Alpinestars keep saying they want them back
I suggested point me to the nearest official alpinestars dealer , ill take my boots to them , they say yeah they faulty
( which it's obvious summats not right)
They report back , distributor sends new boots , I collect
Thus saving me having to mess about posting and waiting for them to be posted here there and everywhere
But they're having none of it
It's like they want them back at hq and don't trust anyone to make a decision on replacement
-
The issue is the dealer is nowhere near me
And they then want him to sent the boots back to them for inspection
So after I've spent money , they then want me to spend more money shipping them back
And then sit and wait while they make a decision on replacement
When to me it's obvious something is wrong
None of my other boots have done it
And certainly not after 2 rides
-
I'm trying but no one seems to be rushing to sort the problem
Alpinestars asked me to pay to post back to the dealer and dealer return it to alpinestars Italy for inspection and decision about a warranty claim
Not a response that is customer friendly
Considering its very obvious there's a problem with the boot , btw it's only 1 of the boots that's affected
-
This is the side of the boot, not looking good for longevity
