After many months waiting for the release of the new alpinestars trials boots I finally got a pair
I'm now very dissapionted
After only two rides ( second trial in stream section)they've started to go funny on the side and the white leather effect is bubbling up on the side , looking like it's gonna peel off
After nearly a week of contacting all the relative parties no solution or exchange is forth coming
Not good for two ride old boots
Funnily enough the stylmartin boots I purchased while waiting for the alpinestars have held up far better and been subject too all conditions
I've heard rumours that there's been issues with the new boots but not confirmed yet
-
That does look nice , I don't know if I could put that much time , effort and money into it
I've stripped the forks tonight the bushes were siezed , gave them a good clean out and a get a new set of seals and should be good to go
I'm itching to ride it but if I do I know getting it how I want it will get put on hold , maybe forever
-
Ok cheers i best get cracking then
-
Thanks for the reply , looks like I'll be going the slightly modded route then
I'm sure there's gonna be some head scratching along the way but it'll keep me occupied
Now the last big question , it stops , starts runs quite well ( better than anticipated ) I payed £500 , is that over the odds taking into account it's already been messed with

Well thats sorted most of my questions , thanks
The only other thing is what to do with it
Do I put it back to original or (try to)
Or do it how I want or like it
I think the tank is swaying it towards modding it ,because I like the look better
Are they rare ,would it be considered sacrilege
What's the general consensus
-
I'm clueless with these old things thought it was just the tank that sits under the fibreglass cover , it fits pretty well
Also what do you do with the kick start just take it off and rotate it back
Would a 248 still have the 21m number
-
I purchased this today as I fancied a twinshock mont and a bit of a project
The frame and engine number is 21m51607
I've looked online and all I can tell is its a 247 no idea about how you date it
If anyone could shed any light on it I'd appreciate it because I'll be needing a few bits and bobs
Thanks in advance

If the price of euro bikes and parts do become more expensive due to the our exit from the eu maybe some dealers could ruduce the margins on some parts to offset this ( you know who you are )
Ive recently discovered the mark up on some items and is borderline just an out and out rip off
-
I use it in my mont ,and my brother uses it in his new 2t sherco gearbox ,so I'm guessing it's fine to use in 4 and 2t
-
What pegs are they , my mate has steel s3 hard rock on his and the inner edge digs into the aluminium hanger brackets thus making the pegs get lower and lower over time
If it's not bolts or bolt holes it's this
You've 2 options, new hangers or a a bit of weld on the footpeg lug which I do for him regularly
He tried shims but they fall out
-
Go for a 4rt , base your purchase on condition not the year and you won't go far wrong ,
-
If you think it's bled properly ride round with the back brake on get the rear brake hot and then chuck some water on it so you get a bit of steam coming off it
-
Back bleed as normal but crack the banjo bolt on the master as your pushing fluid in , somtimes mine will go straight away others I have to press the rear brake with the banjo open and it will push a bit of air out easier with some help cuz you need 3 hands , one to push fluid , one to crack banjo and re tighten and another to press brake
-
Do you mean a lot of travel until it locks up or just spongey
If so have you bled it from the brake cylinder,I can back bleed mine and get it working but can't get it right until I bleed it from the cylinder ( there's alwaY's a bit of air trapped in there )

How odd is that , just searching the net now and this thread came up
No can't find anything yet , contacted alpinestars and they didn't say or know much other than contact your local dealer , who in turn also don't now anything
-
No but if you look at the manual the swingarm pivot is 60 _70 nm and the stem is a similar size and function
It will be one of the higher tourqe bolts on the bike so just use your judgement
More important is the lock ring on the steering bearing , not a lot can happen even if the stem bolt comes loose ( provided you've clamped the fork legs back up
Tighten it and just keep your eye on it

Should have saved a bit of wieght on the ktm
Then you might have struggled a little less
Or with the money you've saved by not making it lighter you could buy some nice platform boots so the seat hight isn't so much of an issue
☺
-
Yes you can stop at saving 110grams
But that would be pointless
Now look at everthing on the bike and Think how many items you can save 110 grams ( a lot )
I don't get the theory about saving wieght by eating less , taking a dump
Your moving the bike , hopping , flicking
Lifting , even on occasion dragging when it's all gone pear shaped
I too am in engineering so used that skill and knowledge and contacts to start putting the bike on diet
It doesn't take vast amounts of money it takes a little time , effort and thought
So far I've saved close on 4kg off my 4rt
And still know where another 2kg can be lost
Now strap a 3kg wieght on each arm or leg and say you can't tell any difference
Yes folk will say "but the bike does the work , agreed but we are not all experts and quite often I find I wish my bike wieghed 50kg ( stuck in the boggy moor at ilkley grand national springs to mind )
So I'm looking at a total of a 6kg saving that's been challenging , ocuppies my mind, and makes my bike mine with my ideas and effort
And the cost will still come in a lot less than a new standard mont and if I spent the same as an rr I think I could make it float away
-
My last domino did it from brand new , it's crap
Gonna try and get hold of another xblok tube ,
-
In my opinion on a 4rt no downside , especially the later model which I
Think the power feels softer anyway
Also another thing to consider is how much you cover the front brake , when you accelerate more often than not you don't need the front brake
For example blipping it to go up a step or a steep climb
It's a terrible habit ive got , but trying to get out of ,
-
Not enough slack in the pedal , I did the same , only carried on riding after the smoke , the seals melted , fluid came out and then ignited on the disc , all the disc and hub where on fire ,was burning quite well
-
Ok cheers as long as I know I'll be able to get to the area that's fine
I'm sure I'll find a space somewhere to set up camp
-
Get stainless bearings , only slightly more expensive but considering they spend half there life in water a better option
