  1. Did you ever get your Climber going? Did you find a aftermarket CDI or complete ignition system?
  2. I found a used Climber CDI on eBay. It should be here by Friday. When get a chance I’ll check the stator/trigger coil for resistance. Hope I figure this out before Sunday, I have a trials then. If not I’ll be on my old reliable SWM!
  3. Yes I gapped a new spark plug to the specs in the manual. I can adjust the timing a little bit. I’ll try that next, thanks. I did read the CDI will degrade over time and cause it to stay in an advanced timing curve, causing this issue. Was hoping someone else ran into this and fixed it.
  4. My 93 Climber 280 kicks back bad. I thought I was going to break the Kickstarter or my foot. I ended up bruising the bottom of my foot in our last vintage trials. I was hoping it was just a sheared flywheel key. I took it apart felt like the main bearing was loose. Took some effort but I managed to get the flywheel off. Main bearing was tight. Someone put locktite on the crank/flywheel. I cleaned that off. I should have lapped it but was in a hurry. Put it back together. It's tight now. I checked the stator and all screws were tight. Didn't look like it had moved. I put it back together and it's still doing the kick back. I tried both feet, tried when cold, when warm and it still does it about 90 percent of the time. Could my electronic ignition timing curve going bad? Are there any aftermarket replacements? I have an aftermarket electronic ignition on my SWM and it’s working great! Any suggestions? Thanks for any help!
  5. My Climbers rear shock stop bumper has disintegrated. Where can I find another one? The shock shaft is 14mm. Thanks
  6. Yes, Chris said he might start a new class this year. Otherwise the early liquid cooled bikes are legal in the modern vintage class.
  7. Took the Climber to our vintage trials last weekend. Worked great 👍 Fun bike!
  8. I have my 93 Climber running! It started on the second kick! Ran good, a little rich. Clutch was stuck, typical Rotax, I fixed that on my SWM with new fiber plates. Took awhile but it finally freed up. The clutch felt either on or off so new plates should help. Gearing felt fine, power was good, lots of compression! It needs to be jetted better or another carburetor ( I have had great luck with OKO on my SWM)!
  9. What’s the best gearing for the 93 Climber? I have 10 front and 42 rear.
  10. Anyone have a parts manual to the 92,93,94 Climbers? I have the 89 manual but there is some differences. Thanks
  11. I just picked up a 93 Aprillia Climber last night. It’s in good original condition. Just needs some maintenance. It came with a lot of new and extra parts. I need to weld the tab for the rear fender mount. I noticed the swingarm is a little loose. Anyone know the bearing sizes or if there is a bearing, sleeve and seal kit for the swingarm?
  12. It’s a radial tire. I did mount it on the rim, went on a lot harder than a regular rim. I had a heck of a time seating the bead. Tire looks normal on the rim. I don’t think it’s going to move!
  13. It’s a Aprilia Climber 280R trials bike. The model Climber was made from 1989 to 1994. I had a 1992 in the 90s, was the first trials bike I competed on.
  14. Yeah the tubeless rim seems flatter than a tube type. I was going to use a tube. Original owner had a tube in it. Probably wouldn’t seal on the rim anymore. I have the IRC trials tires, I think they are radials and directional. Would have to drill the rim for a rim lock which I would rather not do.
  15. I’m working on a 1993 Climber that has a tubeless rear wheel. The tire I received with the bike is tube type. Can I use this tire with tube? Would probably have to use a rim lock. Or should I buy a tubeless tire and valve stem or tube? Thanks

    SWM Shocks

I have a set of OZO shocks on my SWM TL320. They aren’t leaking oil but are very springy/bouncy. They have shrader valves can i fill them with air? If so how much? I know you’re supposed to fill with nitrogen but I have a trials this weekend and no way to get that done right now. But the air would be temporary. Thanks
  17. Looking at getting a 93 Aprilia 280R Climber. Are there any flywheel weights available or will I need to machine something? How is the parts availability? I had a 92 and liked it a lot!

    Finding SWMs

Thanks, sounds like a great deal! I have had four SWMs since I posted this. The one I have now is a keeper! Been competing on it for about 6 seasons now. Great bikes!
  20. I know the TX311 and TXR heads have a head stay (bracket mounts the head to the frame) for helping vibration.

    TX311/TXR312

My TXR engine and shock are done. Ended up boring the cylinder for 76.25mm piston.
  22. I use HFS suspension for the fork springs. They are really nice! Just make sure you give them all the information on your forks and old springs. https://suspensionhfs.com/en/
  23. I take the plastic plugs out of the clutch cover and tip the bike in a pan to drain oil. Works well for me.
  24. What brand is the hydraulic clutch? I have a TL320, run 60:1 Amsoil Dominator, 80wt Bel Ray Gearsaver (Maxima is good too), I use OZO shocks with heavy springs.
