  1. Habe been thinking about electric... any good? How long do you get to a charge? Boner.
  2. Morning Chaps, In your opinion which bikes are louder, 2T or 4T ? I’ve got (nice) neighbours who don’t hugely appreciate motorcycle noise - can’t understand it myself!!! Obviously, no trials bike is going to be as loud as a crosser, but still worth considering. Cheers Boner.
  3. Throttle cable wasn't seted properly on the carb. Fried the top end too :-( Lesson learnt.
  4. Vacuum test done. No problems. Did notice that the air mix screw was weeping, and therefore potentially drawing in air. Any ideas how I could seal / rectify this?
  5. Bits back from sherco. Resleeved, and all new top end. Started first kick.
  6. Guys, just got my 2011 290 back up and running. She starts on the choke nicely, and idles well off choke. However, I've just tried to pick the idle up a bit on the carb but neither the idle screw nor the air mix screw make any difference to the idle. Any ideas? Thanks Boner
  7. I stripped the bike this afternoon. Had a hunch that it might be the top end pulled the cylinder - and hey presto rather sad looking piston and very worn rings. I'm guessing therefore, there wasn't enough compression to draw fuel through the carb. Off to the Sherco shop to see if the barrel can be saved :-( Cheers - Boner.
  8. Is it worth pulling the head to double check for pre-ignition? Is there any way of checking the flywheel key without pulling the flywheel? Presumably if the flywheel is turning that's good isn't it? Cheers - Boner.
  9. Thanks chaps. I'm sure that the slide is snapping ok. Yes it's a Dellorto. I'm just wandering if I've put the floats in upside down! I'll have a look tmorrow! Cheers matt
  10. Guys have just stripped my carb after my 2011 290 started and revved out until I eventually killed it with the switch. I've cleaned everything thoroughly and blown it through. Put the carb back together, fresh (new 50:1) fuel, kicked and kicked and nothing, not even a fart... The spark is good, but the plug comes out dry after kicking. The reving out was caused by a badly routed / incorrectly seated throttle cable. The rest of it I can't figure out?!? Cheers Boner
  11. Thank you. I'll have a look later and report back. Cheer Boner.
  12. Thanks for all the replies guys. I had the rad off too to replace thermostat. When reassembling everything, I did pull the throttle cable up out of the way and slightly re-route it to tidy things up. Could re-routing the throttle cable be enough to cause my bike's problem? Cheers Boner
  13. Guys have just cleaned my carb ultrasonicly put it all back together. Kicked the bike over then it just revs and revs until it's about to burst! 2011 sherco 290. I've checked manifolds for air leaks: all ok Air fuel screw 1.5 turns out. Makes no difference whether it's on the choke or not. Any ideas before I kill my bike? Thanks Boner.

    Cleaning My Sherco

Thanks for the replies chaps. Sounds like I'll be more careful where I spray my water in the future! Cheers Boner
  15. Just looking for some tips about cleaning my Sherco after a muddy ride. I'm slightly concerned about getting water in the carb / airbox whilst washing. Any tips gratefully received. Boner
  16. Why can't I log on to the Classifieds section of the site to place an ad? Id it broken at the moment? Cheers - Boner.
  17. Mmmm - haven't checked the reed block. Will whip it out over theweekend and take a look. Thanks for the pointer. Cheers - Boner.
  18. Guys sorry to drag up ANOTHER txt50 starting problem post, but I have read all the other threads and haven't found a solution yet... What I have tried: Fresh fuel. Check fuel is flowing. Air filter cleaned and re-oiled. Carb stripped and jets blown through. Removed spark plug, check for spark: spark present. Pulled apart stator and cleaned. Checked earths. Kicked and kicked until my leg fell off. Not a sign of the bike wanting to fire up... Any ideas, pointers on how to breath life back into the gas gas boy? Cheers - Boner.
  19. Yep. Blocked idle jet. Thanks - Boner.
  20. A man of few words - but thank you Neil! ATB - Boner.
  21. Is the pilot jet the same as either the "main jet" or "idle jet"? See: http://www.dellorto.co.uk/merchandise/prod...artsectionID=24 Thanks - Boner.
  22. Guys, Something's not right with my carb. Have searched through old posts, and got a few hints of what the problem might be, but just wanted to chuck this out there anyway... Basically the bike won't idle evenly, instead it surges (if that makes any sense) once the throttle is blipped before it returns to a tick over. However, the above does not happen when the choke is ON. Any ideas? Cheers - Boner.

    Float Directions

Just a quick one to conclude: Carb was missing the float valve - which obviously fell out when I was stripping it. Replaced it: size of valve indicated on the side of the seat. Carb in the bike - no flooding and running! Job sorted. Thanks for all the help - Boner.

    Float Directions

Just had a look in the owner's manual at the float valve... and I think it's missing completely!!!!! CR4P. Must have got blown off the bench whilst using the air line. Will strip the carb again and double check - but that would explain the problem! Just taken a look at the Dellorto website at float valves and seats... http://www.dellorto.co.uk/merchandise/prod...artsectionID=24 How do I know which is the right one? Cheers - Boner.

    Float Directions

Yeah, pretty sure I've tried that one. But, I'll give it another go. Any other ideas why the carb may be flooding? Cheers Boner.
