    1978 Ty175

Hi. Bought this bike a while back and always wondered about the exhaust shield. Has anyone seen one of these before or is it a DIY job. Also were the one piece tank and seat units fitted to some bikes from new, or are they always an aftermarket addition. Any info welcome. Thanks WD
  2. Hi Roy As far as i know the Lanarkshire club and the Dunfermline club are the 2 big clubs around here. I contacted the lanarkshire club and they do twinshock although im not sure about pre 65 stuff. Due to having a young family and other commitments i havent been to an event yet- but plan to in the future. Both clubs have websites if you google 'lanarkshire trials' you will find it- apologies if you already know this and let me know if you find anything else.
  3. http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/sig...gi?LothMX&1 Hi . can i ask you all to sign this petition . We are lobbying Edinburgh council for a track and although we have had a bit of local press coverage, and a positive response from the council - we need as much support as possible. Many thanks in advance.
  4. old ones are the best- paddy goes into a pet shop and says 'can i buy a wasp' the owner says ' we dont sell them' - paddy says ' theres 2 in the window' now ive got nought against wasps but anything goes here- eh
  5. Would you, on the same foot, have said it was racist for the British people in WWII to refer to the American GI's as "Oversexed, overpaid and over here" and for them to retort "Undersexed, underpaid and under Eisenhower" I don't see this as any different. It's a bit of national banter. It happens and is not racist in any way. You've been sucked in by the PC society Bliar and his cronies have built for us. Aye ok smart a*** If the original joke had reffered to a dew, a paki and an englishman. Would that be acceptable - no of course not - so why are the nationalities mentioned acceptable?
  6. yes. it was aimed at the original joke. Dont get me wrong - its ok in the pub on a Saturday night with a few of your mates - but on a worldwide forum? ill get ma coat.
  7. I own this site and am a Scotsman myself (which is partly why these guys are doing this - they can't find a kangaroo to mount so they'll wind up the Jocks!). I firmly believe if you can't laugh at yourself then you have no right to laugh at anybody else. You appear to be one of the modern day "Pee Cee" brigade who can't take a bit of fun, like to scream "abuse" at every opportunity and are contributing to the downfall of our once great country where everybody must be politically correct 100% of the time. I don't hold with that. It's banter, end of story. I could delete it in a second - as could Slapshot, but we see it the way it's intended. Just a bit of fun and winding up on an internet forum that means nothing in real life. If you don't like it, don't read it. I am not about to let Trials Central fall victim to the PC brigade. Andy I can assure you - i am not part of the PC brigade. I must be a bit slow but how is it winding up Scots.
  8. mmm. Dont want to be a spoilsport here. but racist c*** springs to mind. This is a trials forum. Spread your crap somewhere else.
  9. As posted last week on a forum - if you phone Yamaha on 01932 358000 with your frame number- they will tell you the year and even send a dating certificate. Not tried it yet myself but keep meaning to.
  10. The TY125 is exactly the same as the 175 except the for the barell - piston and the carb set up. So i've been told anyway.
  11. I agree If you were on land and you knew you werent allowed on it - then its fair play - you take the consequences. However i would say that recently in the Edinburgh Evening News there was a campaign against mini-motos and off road biking in general- and I suprised myself by writing a letter and getting it published. I put across the point that most of these riders are from the more deprived areas of Edinburgh - and instead of slating them we should be doing what we can to support them. If more off road centres were set up then these youths may be encouraged to take up motosports like Trials or Motocross. We have all ridden in places we dont have permission - unless you were really privaleged! I spent a lot of my teenage years avoiding the local police on my beamish - and like to think it kept me away from the drugs and crime - that a lot of my piers got involved in. I got a mostly hostile response to my letter - no suprises there. Agree with John about no trespass law in Scotland - although what that means is vague.
  12. When i was a teenager i had a YZ125 monoshock. We knew nought about monoshocks so being nosey me and my mate took the shock off the bike and decided to unscrew the pressurised container thing with the oil in it . If you have ever been stupid enough to do this you'll know what happened. It was like striking oil in your own hut!
  13. Im lucky also as we have an old railway and woods near us and we a have made a lot of good trails and hills. no one minds us pottering about on the bikes. Will probably come to an end one day when someone puts there foot down- i would like to approach the railways for permission but if they said no - it might mean a clampdown. At the moment the police dont bother us cos they know we are doing no harm, and the location of this place means there is hardly anyone there with dogs etc and there are no residents nearby. Years ago we had permission from a landowner to use his wasteland -but then he started using it for his scrapyard business so that was that. If i remember right it was the local counciller who arranged this for us. could be a start but you would need to identify somewhere and try to get support from other riders.
  14. The bike was cold at the time so could have just been that it missed as suggested. Its running ok now so ill leave it and see if it hapens again. W
  15. Alan. dont know much about these bikes but i would guess the electrics will be ok once they dry out. must of been some puddle!
  16. I see. Ill need to get the manual out. but thinking back - Is this the bit where the points should be fully open as the piston is at the top of the barrel.
  17. Thanks Scotty. sounds good. Whys that make it go backwards?
  18. Hi all It was raining tonight so i took my bike down the woods - as i knew there wouldnt be many kids/dogs about. I started it up- put it in gear and let out the clutch. The bike went backwards. I put it back into neutral and tried again and it went backwards again. i thought great a TY175 WITH REVERSE! 2 more shots and the bike went forward. I was out for over an hour and the gearbox and everything else seems fine now. Has this happened to anyone else before. Is my gearbox about to crash Thanks William
  19. Hi there. Can anyone recommend the best kind off 2 stroke oil to use in a premix TY175. The guy i got it off says to use any kind of oil at 40-1.? Also did these bikes not originally have oil pumps? Any advice welcome. William
  20. HI there. I live in Leith and have a TY175 twinshock. I have been in touch with the Lanarkshire Motor Cycle Club and they run Trials events all year round. They are up at Killen this weekend and the next again weekend they are at Penicuik. I'm going up for a look at Penicuik to see what is involved. I think this is our closest club - and if you search on google you will find their website. You will obviusly need transport to get your bike to these events. If you find anything closer let me know. Where about in east lohian do you go. William. hi william penicuik looks promising is it a competition that will need a ACU license as ive not got one i live in musselburgh and i go to bits and pieces round about where i stay its ok but its not great would be nice to have a go at something more challenging though thanks alan Alan. You do need a licnce. Is it hard to get a licence? I thought you just applied and got a number? they have a novice route and since im 38 ill obviously be going for that. i'm hoping to go up for an hour - and if you need a lift up let me know. I'm just going for a nosey just now. Do you know fom Whitecraig (i think) he's got a Fantic 303.
