Not doubting you Coxy, you ve got one of the good ones I think from what i ve heard from lots of previous gasser riders and theres lots of them now. Great bikes to ride and without doubt my favourites but still cant bring myself to buy one, very hard sometimes though
Week off mate, your slacking, expect i will do the muppet thing soon, got my first trial coming up for over two years soon. Ride well in practice and playing about, then total tw*t as i go through the start cards in a trial, almost like i have never ridden before
Go and have a chat with some Gasser riders and see what they say regards breakdowns and maintenance, they will rave about the way the bike rides as they are the best for it, may help make your mind up. I 'm probably not the best person posting on gassers after the problems i had but i would love to own another but think i would have to save up for a spare one just incase. One day I will get one and hope i dont regret it, will definately get some stick from our lot as well
Yer Coxy, not saying they are all like that but they do need looking after well and if punished abit they do fall to bits, no doubt about that, 90's Gassers are pretty much bullet proof but the 01 onwards are fragile and i would nt like to take another chance at the moment
Yer, Betas very popular bikes in the last few years. I rember though say 8 years ago nearly every adult bike was a gasser like the beta today, and they seem to have blown it, dont see many these days compared to Beta,Sherco Mont etc. Everyone i ve talked to about gassers love the way they ride but the breakdowns are many by the sound of it.
I love the maintenance side of having bikes, but could not put up with breakdowns, last Gasser i bought and may be the last was a 01 and it broke down 3 times in a month and went straight back for a beta, two ignitions and a clutch, let me down really bad at a trial in Glos and it had to go
Quite a few bolts come loose on the beta's just tighten them up before each ride, no real hardship. Loctite them if you want to be sure, a small price to pay for having a bike that is as reliable as the beta. We are noticing though the build quality is getting worse though and i am a little p****d off about the 1.5 kg the 07 has somehow lost over the 06? what have they skimped on to loose that much weight. Keep the bike reliable Beta or your sales will dissappear, I am sure most beta sales are due to reliability and not light weight.
If you like lots of maintenance and breakdowns go for the gasser 100%, they definately ride better than any of the other bikes including the Beta. I would love to get another Gasser after riding lots of them in the 90's but would nt buy one now. The Beta's are easy to work on and very reliable, may not be a light and nimble as the Gasser but you know its going to start every time and not fall to bits or have quite major breakdowns if you get a bad one. Hope to get another Gasgas one day but not untill the unreliability is sorted out, they are just to fragile these days i feel, especially if you ride alot
BM BM, yer been going on and on and on about it here, bit of a nightmare bike, just unlucky, someone has to get one. First out of about 20 so not a bad average I suppose
Take the plug cap off and test the H/T wire is producing a spark, may just be the cap itself. Expose a few wires and test the spark as you would a plug. If there is no spark it may be the ignition itself, had an ignition unit go on a 01 Gasser before but its either working or not, it wont produce a slight spark if knackered
Will have some magic fingers on the bike next week, so hopefully it will run as good as the 04 did, I wont miss posting about the mikuni either, hope it gets sorted next week.
I know what you mean Barry, this sport is begining to take my life over abit, never skived off work so much as i have in the past 6 months, really enjoying it. Good luck with the move and get that land sussed out for us all.
Neon, always worth checking the disc bolts every ride, can get abit costly if they come out to far and score a bloody great groove in the caliper, or busts all the bolt heads out. We usually check the disc ones half way through the day as well to be sure
Thanks for that guys, may have to work on editing the clips as they will be more than 5mb I think. Andy I'm pretty sure I can only mail 1mb which is useless but thanks anyway. Did nt bother riding tonight, just watched in ore, he is absolutely incredible, really friendly and up for a laugh . Maria and jack put us all to shame as well, really great day out. Caber no I missed the big off on tape mate, but heard it though bet you'll be sore in the morning, think yours topped mine the other day on the bank from what I heard.
Mr D, first post on here mate, hope it wont be your last,
Great day at the quarry tonight and this evening, Alexz, Maria and Jack Lee came out as well, got lots of video but not to sure how to post it somewhere for viewing? any help would be appreciated as its pretty good and Alexz is simply stunning. Also have a 2 minute clip of Ralph doing a section wearing nothing but his black pants pulled up to his chest, not pretty but one of those clips that must been seen to be beleived. Dont think I can post any of the videos on here due to file size but a link from somewhere else would be good if anyone knows. Got loads of pics as well of everyone which i will load later
Happened to me whilst riding, sheared three in one go and Ralph sheared the lot tonight at the quarry, get them helicoiled or Tight Fast inserts which mine have, all of our rev3 disc bolts come undone and need loctite to give you a chance of keeping them in
2/4 mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ram air on a rev3? on the other points, all most of us want first is a good relaible bike and easy to maintain but still competetive as the Beta is, all the other bits colour scheme, bars etc are just comments on the look of the bike. The rev 3 07 is pretty much the same bike as the very first so there isnt really any major comments to make except on its look. Re the carb, some of them have a mind of there own and are virtually beyond fixing, very poor in my opinion as they have been like this quite sometime now.
Good points Rev 3
Easy to work on
Relaible
Well made to a point(but getting worse)
Plenty of power
Good spares prices (most things)
Bad
Get a contract with Delorto and dump the Mikuni
Tyre way to close to the swing arm
I am still convinced Beta bought a job lot of Mikuni carbs a few years ago, about half a million and need to persevere with them regardless, I bet if they ever bring out a fuel injected bike it will still have the mikuni in there just so they can clear abit of shelf place in the factory
Joe, Its a real job to tell them apart these days all that light riding, hopping and jumping about, Ralphs become a finely honed athlete now, There is a rumour Ginsters are looking to sponsor him next season, just negociating whether the deal will be full time or just breakfasts. Bringing the cameras this morning mate
