  1. I pulled a stupid stunt and broke my handlebars. I'm 6'2" tall and the stock bars have me bent over. is it worth it to buy the expensive trial bars or is there another bar that will work as good or better than stock?
  2. The smaller number is a hotter plug.
  3. Sherpa, was your bike noisier at full opperating temp than cold? Anyway, I talkied to her the other day and she said it sounded very strange in 4th and 5th gear. I told her it was best she returned the bike. I helped her return the bike, but I didn't have time see what it sounded like.
  4. More than likely there is dirt or sand in the seal and it only needs to be cleaned. I use paper business cards to clean mine.
  5. Alan, thanks for the repy. A friend is looking to buy the bike. I'm trying to sort the mechanical problem to determine if it is a deal killer. The seller is a dealer and the potential buyer is a woman. The bike is nice, but he has had it for sale for about a year. I think the noise has spooked previous prospective buyers, it is pretty loud. Of couse the seller hasn't came out and said he cannot sell it because it sounds like a car shreader, but told her that may need an adjustment. I'm just fishing for informaton, I hate for her to get the bike only for it to blow up shortly.
  6. I'm looking at an '03 125. When cold there is noise from the clutch area, when it is warm it sounds like a cement mixer. The noise changes a little when you pull the clutch lever, is the same in gear or out of gear. It is quieter when slipping the clutch under load. Any ideas? Thanks,
  7. Skid, that sounds a little high. I paid $1400 for mine, but it could use a little freshening up. It is a good bike though. Do you know what kind of clutch they put in?

    Cv Carbs

Mark, the trick to getting the CV diaphram back in: Put a thin layer of oil along the lip of the diaphram (just rub an oily index finger around it), put the diaphram in the carb and as close fitting in the groove as possible as you are compressing the spring with the cap, apply a little pressure on the cap and wiggle it around on to of the diaphram and you will feel it slip ino the groove, hold on tight untill you get the screws in and snugged up.

    '04 Sherco 290

Utah, $3,000 for an '01 315R is a little steep. I have a 2000 that I paid half of that, it has been well used however and not like new. That being said, the Montesa is a solid bike and I like it a lot. It starts easy and can take a lot of punishment. The rear wheels are unique and work well. The low and mid range torque are great, but the top end seems lacking. With both being priced the same I would probably buy the 2.9 sherco probably.
  10. T2R, please explain what you mean by "tickover". That must be a term exclusive to the UK. I've never heard anyone here in Sodom and Gamora use it. I may be able to help you as I had a lot of problems with mine (a 2000), but have it running great right now. I drilled my pilot jet a little larger and also thought my carb was clean. Next time you have your carb apart blow it dry, mine looked a lot cleaner than it was when it was wet. I blew it dry and found that it was much dirtier than I thought. I'm still glad I drilled the pilot.
  11. The float level is 18.5 mm or .73 in measured from the surface where the bowl seals. Just use some needle nose pliers to straighten the arm that you bent, its not rocket science.
  12. I use the fall down, pick up bike, hold out card for the 5 to be punched method.
  13. The yamaha ttr 125 is notoriasly cold blooded. If you adjust the fuel screw so it will run when cold, then it will be rich once it warms up.
  14. It was running good today.
  15. Sd, my 2000 montesa is doing the same thing. I am pretty sure the pilot jet is clogging up. Last night, instead of removing the carb again, I removed the pilot screw and blew compressed air into the hole and that cured it. The last time I actually drilled the pilot to a larger size. That helped a lot, but then when I went to ride it yesterday it was running like crap again. Mine starts surging and I keep screwing in the air screw till its screwed in all the way. Then sometimes it won't start till I choke it. I'm wandering if there is not a screen in the fuel tank and I need to put a filter on the fuel line. I've only had this bike about a month and am new to trials, but the bike is very hard to control when it starts running like that.
